2 A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR Welcome to Manchester International Football Academy. The academy is designed to help players move forwards, improving football skills and fitness, through a programme of training and exercise in a supportive environment. I have been involved with the development and education of young players in professional clubs for over 20 years. I feel that our team of well qualified staff is in an excellent position to help players develop and Manchester is a great place to be; full of life and with a passion for football. EXPERT STAFF The MIFA team have an encouraging yet disciplined approach to training. Our coaches have all played and/or managed at a professional level from the lower leagues right through to the Premiership. Using their knowledge and experience of the English game, our coaching team can identify areas for improvement and ensure that each of our players reach their full potential. UNIQUE TRAINING MIFA players train as professional footballers. The weekly schedule is designed to contain exercises and drills that encourage agility, movement, endurance, speed and technical skills. The training programme is balanced with matches against professional and academy teams. POSITIVE MIFA ENVIRONMENT MIFA bring together players from all over the world who share a passion for football and are looking to take their training to the next level. Players will be challenged but also inspired to succeed in an encouraging and happy environment which builds confidence both on and off the pitch. 3 ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION Our coaches assess each player every step of the way and provide weekly feedback in 1:1 tutorials. Spending time with the players individually means the team can give specific training advice to help each player reach their personal goals. PLAY FOOTBALL IN MANCHESTER MIFA is at the heart of English Football with 21 professional clubs in a 60 minute radius of the Academy. This is a city that eats, sleeps and breathes football. From Manchester United and City s battle for the Premiership, to Sunday games in the park, fans live for the beautiful game. MIFA training takes places at the Salford Sports Village, which is a purpose built football facility. Don t just listen to us...here s a few words from some of our recent players! VINCENT DHESI 19 YEARS OLD MIDFIELDER YORK I I like how professional the set up and football training sessions are at MIFA. Since being at the Academy my fitness levels have improved which is vital for my overall development. I was injured for the majority of last season so my main aim was to get my fitness back. My sharpness and other areas of my game have also automatically improved. I see myself making a living from being a professional footballer otball so the main thing I aim to achieve at MIFA is to become a professional footballer at the best standard that I can and have trials with clubs. 5 MOA SPINDARI 18 YEARS OLD FORWARD NORWAY I ve been at MIFA for the past 8 months and the reason I enjoy it so much is because the academy allows you to train everyday so I improve and develop as a player. The coaches at MIFA really spend time with the individuals and help you set targets and reach them. Being able to play for the MIFA squad also gives me the needed game time to express my talents and try new things. I would definitely recommend any young aspiring footballer to come to MIFA as it teaches you all you need to know about the English game. MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL ACADEMY / PROSPECTUS 8 OLA SUNMOLAH 19 YEARS OLD FORWARD LONDON ave I have been at MIFA for 7 months, travelling in and out of London between courses. The reason I keep returning to the academy is my passion for football and the support MIFA give me to help me reach the level of football I want to play at. What I like about the coaches is that they are so motivating, they never put anyone down and they never give up on you. If I have a specific area that I would like to work on individually they are there to help me. We get experience training on 3G and grass pitches and the rest of the facilities are great, including the gym, café and studio where we meet up to talk together and learn as a team. I ve been living with my host family since the first day I arrived and he is so welcoming, he is always glad to have me back. I think that Manchester is a great place to be, everybody around here is so friendly. 6 ACCOMMODATION... For players who aren't local to Manchester, accommodation is provided by host families in the surrounding areas. Staying with host families allows players to immerse themselves in life at MIFA and also to experience life in Manchester. Host families provide breakfast and an evening meal each day and are able to cater for different dietary requirements. Players are expected to travel independently from the host family to training, however all the staff are on hand to help planing journeys where needed. A range of hotel/serviced accommodation is also available in Greater Manchester. WHAT DO YOU GET? Players come to MIFA to focus on improving their football but it is also important for players to continue to develop academically. Our Education Officer, Trish Keppie has been working with Premiership clubs since the start of the Premier League. She is highly experienced in this field of education specifically for footballers and shares her time between MIFA, the English Premier League and Scottish Premier League. By understanding the demands of balancing school studies and football training, Trish has been able to outline a range of academic study options that will complement the football training schedule. Study options AS/A Levels GCSEs English as a Foreign Language The combination of small class sizes and experienced teachers creates a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment helping our players reach their highest potential. 7 Our aim is to help our players gain independence, self confidence and adaptability; qualities that are useful both on and off the pitch. Lessons are scheduled around the squad training sessions, whereby players usually train in the morning and study in the afternoon.
