3 Children 1st In Safe Hands Course: This workshop focuses on helping clubs put child protection policies into practice. The workshop is aimed at those acting in sports clubs as the Child Protection Officer. Those attending In safe hands should have first attending Sports Coach UK s Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop (or equivalent). Subjects covered include legal duties, roles and responsibilities, practical procedures (including the safe recruitment and selection of those who have contact of children in sport) and how to appropriately manage concerns. Disability Inclusion Training: Aimed at people who coach, volunteer, or lead within a sport or physical activity setting, and who want further information about how to be inclusive in their delivery. The workshop includes practical sports hall-based opportunities to apply the Inclusion Spectrum and the STEPS principles to a range of sports and games. Positive Coaching Scotland: PCS creates a positive environment in youth sport which focuses on encouraging effort and learning, improving performance and fostering competition. This combination helps young people deal positively with mistakes. PCS offers a visionary new approach a practical alternative to the win at all costs mentality and a timely response to the challenges facing youth sport. It provides the tools and framework for a positive sporting experience that can also be character-building. By involving the whole community sport leaders, coaches, parents and teachers PCS can encourage a cultural shift in sport in Scotland, thereby inspiring young people to reach their potential. It sets a new standard for all the key influencers in a young person s life. Four workshops are available for Club Leaders, Parents, Coaches and Teachers. Sports Leaders UK Courses: One Day Community Sports Leadership Course The Day Certificate in Sports Leadership has been designed to support adult s aged 16 years and over, in a variety of settings such as community groups, schools, uniformed organisations and sports clubs. Research has shown that leaders who have attended the one day course now feel more confident and assertive in their role as a sport leader, and many have embarked upon other Sports Leadership and Governing Body coaching courses to progress their skills. The course is practical and candidates must demonstrate knowledge and understanding through physical competence in leading their peers.
4 Sports Coach UK Courses: Sports Coach UK provide a series of workshops that are designed to equip coaches with the skills to integrate good practice techniques into coaching sessions. A range of short, practical courses are available depending on the coaches interests and experience. All these courses are delivered on a non-sports specific basis. Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop: This workshop aims to increase awareness of safeguarding and protecting children, helping coaches to recognise signs of abuse and poor practice, and deal sensitively and effectively with issues that arise. It also prompts a review of coaching practice to ensure that sport provides a positive and enriching experience for children. Safeguarding & Protecting Children 2 Workshop: In this refresher session, you will consolidate and update everything you learned in the first workshop. You ll have the opportunity to share best practice and learn from each other s experiences to help you create a positive, child-centred sporting environment. 5 GB Sport: Business Essentials Workshop Aberdeen Community Sports Hubs This interactive course provides essential business and financial information for sports coaches and their clients (clubs, agencies, etc.) to ensure both parties satisfy government regulations and requirements, covering the following topics: Legal Status, Self- Employment, Employment, Insurance. GB Sport: Marketing Essentials Workshop What are the essential elements you must put in place to market your programme/club successfully and develop a unique brand? This four hour interactive course introduces the concept of successful marketing for sports coaches and clubs defining and building a brand, developing and implementing an effective and practical marketing plan, how to monitor and evaluate the results, and great examples of good practice. It covers the following topics Branding, Planning, First Impressions, Social Media, Resources. GB Sport: Book Keeping Essentials This four hour interactive course provides a thorough introduction into the bookkeeping requirements when running a small business or club, designed to ensure you meet HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) requirements and to provide you with the essential financial information you need to run your business/club, covering the following topics Record Keeping, Allowable Expenses, Invoicing & Debt Management, VAT. More information on courses can be found here: Sports Marketing Courses: From Club to Enterprise: how to make your sports club vibrant, visible and viable This introductory workshop will cover how clubs can develop the enterprise culture and skills required and how to get the vision right and a clear vision of what their club is for. It will help clubs become vibrant through the activities and events the club creates, visible through its communication with members, supporters, sponsors and the world at large thus creating a viable club.
6 The Club as a Hub for the Community: How you can grow your club by becoming a partner for your community This workshop will help you to become well connected to your community and find a common purpose between your partners and yourself. You will be given advice on the best ways to work together, benefitting both parties and on how to make it easier to understand each other and benefit from doing so. It will also cover how you can best assess your potential for working with community partners - what are your assets, relationships and skills? More People at Your Club: From Membership Secretary to Club Grower If clubs are to increase the number of members and supporters they must become much more marketing and customer focused. The time has come for them to create exciting sport and exercise experiences. They must increase their focus on people's needs and wishes and get away from an internally-focused culture too often based on outdated views and attitudes. They must develop a welcoming culture across the whole club so everybody who walks into the club feels like a guest in one's home - regardless of whether they are aspiring Olympians or recreational participants. This workshop will cover how to create a welcoming club and grow your membership by listening to everybody who comes to your club - making sure you have conversations which help you determine what they really want. How to Promote Your Club: How to raise the profile of your club across your community Successful clubs do engage and communicate with users, members and other stakeholders using a number of tools, often involving members and their networks, thus reaching much wider audiences at almost no cost. They embrace the changes and work with them and not against them. This workshop covers how to use social and mobile media to communicate with members, sponsors and supporters. Participants will be introduced to SMN s unique tool 4COM: Linking up COMmunity, COMmunication, welcoming and COMputers which enables them to connect all their promotional activities. They will learn how to develop Partnership Promotions with external nonsport partners from the Police to Housing Associations.
7 Grow Your Club's Income: From fundraising to income generation The notion that a community sports club is indeed an enterprise which has to attract, serve and retain customers and make a surplus whilst fulfilling its sporting and community objectives is something that many clubs will need help to embrace. Sports clubs must develop a sustainable income model getting away from the panicky Dash for Cash often running around literally begging for money. The key is to look at the whole operation and ambition of your club and then identify and implement projects which can help grow your income to match your requirements, including generating cash reserves for replacements and developments. The creativity and commercial awareness of a number of community sports clubs who are ensuring their sustainability will be shared. This workshop will give you plenty of thoughts, tools and to-dos on how you can develop better income generating strategies and initiatives that are right for your club. In your environment, with your skills and contacts and aligned with your mission. It will help you move from a fundraising culture to one of income generation where you provide real benefits that people will pay for and has value to your customers (members, guests, supporters, sponsors) Leadership and Management of Your Sports Club: Getting things done through people Successful leadership and management of the modern community sports club require delivery against sporting and social objectives while ensuring the financial sustainability of the organisation. Leaders and managers need a distinct set of skills to thrive in this context where clubs are operating in a competitive and changing environment. Too many clubs are relying on the same people to do too much and are therefore putting too much pressure on too few people. At the same time very few clubs make any concerted efforts to assess what skills they require and how to make themselves attractive to skilled and dedicated volunteers who can make a real difference. Hence, why the myth 'you can't get volunteers these days' becomes the accepted truism. At the same time we experience many well-run clubs with a good structure, innovation, communication and motivation in place successfully recruiting and retaining skilled and passionate volunteers. This workshop will cover how to develop a culture, processes and tools which improve the leadership and management of your club. It will specifically focus on how to attract, retain and reward passionate and skilled volunteers who can really add value to your club. It will also help you develop a Can Do club.
