2 UEL is a large, modern university with campuses and sports facilities to match. We were the only university cited in the London 2012 bid and have since developed a new sporting infrastructure alongside a diverse and inclusive range of programmes, as well as forging new partnerships with sports bodies from around the world. We have an ambitious strategy for sport at UEL, which means new facilities, increased partnerships and additional staffing resources to deliver on our target to be recognised as the best university in London for sport by UEL is now a world-class option for local, national and international organisations, demonstrated by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) s choice to make us their official training headquarters for the 2012 Games. We offer a home base for international athletes to train between competitions, as well as the potential to host more short- and long-term training camps across sporting disciplines. On top of our superb facilities, we also provide you with a full support package that includes accommodation, catering, transport and sports science support. We have expertise in a range of areas including physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, lifestyle counselling, podiatry, biomechanics, nutrition, physiology and psychology. Located in the heart of east London, this spectacular 21 million sports facility provides a world-class training and competition venue. 4 Supporting your team Our range of high-quality services support emerging and established high-performance athletes in their pursuit for sporting excellence: Sports science support Access to British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES)-accredited staff with expertise in nutrition, physiology, movement analysis, biomechanics and sports psychology. Strength and conditioning Supervision, programming, monitoring and evaluation from experienced UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA)-qualified support staff provided, as well as access to our fully equipped facility. Sports injury support and treatment Physiotherapy, sports massage and podiatry expertise and facilities. Athlete welfare and lifestyle support Talented Athlete Life Skills (TALS)-qualified member of staff provides counselling and support to high-performance athletes. Scholarship programmes uel.ac.uk/sports-scholarships We offer one of the most attractive and flexible sports scholarship packages in the UK, including the UEL Sports Scholarships, the International Rowing Scholarship, the International Basketball Scholarship and the ASICS Athletics Scholarship. Athletes choose to study at UEL for a semester, a year or an entire programme at undergraduate or postgraduate levels, and benefit from flexible academic and sporting support. 5 UEL staff support professional and amateur athletes on externally supported programmes, including the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and the Junior Athlete Education (JAE) Academy. We deliver the Newham and Waltham Forest High- Performance Programmes on behalf of the respective London 2012 host boroughs, and our experienced staff provide support services to West Ham United Football Club, Leyton Orient Football Club and the WimX Tennis Academy. 6 Transport Both our Docklands and Stratford Campuses can be reached from London City Airport or central London in less than 30 minutes, providing a flexible, accessible base for national and international partners. UEL can provide alternative transport on arrangement. Our Stratford Campus is just minutes away from the 2012 Olympic Park Accommodation uel.ac.uk/residential UEL provides a fantastic range of en-suite accommodation and can also arrange suitable off-campus accommodation with some our partner hotels within walking distance of our Docklands and Stratford Campuses. On-campus accommodation is available late June to early September; close-to-campus accommodation from late September to early June. Catering uel.ac.uk/catering Half-board, full-board, breakfast, lunch and dinner provision is available. Provided on campus, or arrangements can be made off site. Special nutritional arrangements can be requested. Our Docklands Campus has its own Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station only 20 minutes from the Olympic Park The high-speed train from Stratford to St Pancras International takes just seven minutes and provides ideal transport links to European destinations

7 A complete sporting offer UEL offers a range of sporting opportunities to students, staff, and the local community. UEL won Most Improved University for Sport in 2011 Our undergraduate and postgraduate sports programmes span 4 academic Schools and are ranked highest in London for student satisfaction.* Programmes include Fitness and Health; Sports Coaching/Development; Sports Management; Sports Journalism and Media; PE teacher training; Physiotherapy and Sports Therapy; Podiatry; MBA Sport. *National Student Survey 2011 Over 2,000 UEL students participate in the various sports activities offered by UEL. UEL students compete in BUCS competitions in 22 sports. SportsDock is home to 7 National League community sports clubs. l UEL manages Chairs in the Community, which provides specialist sports wheelchairs for participation in basketball, badminton, tennis and handball on a weekly basis in local boroughs.
