3 General Information Course Description The Pediatric Education Conference is presented by members of the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine as well as by selected guest faculty. The program is designed to provide pediatricians, family physicians, nurses, and other child health care providers with an overview of recent developments in areas of current interest, concern and controversy. The 2012 conference will focus on Pediatric Environmental Health issues relevant for the general pediatrician, family practitioner and other healthcare professionals who work with children and adolescents. Objectives Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to: 1. Explain environmental health concerns to families. 2. Discuss the scope and impact of children s environmental health issues. 3. Use standardized tools for children s environmental health assessment. 4. Screen, evaluate and treat for environmental health exposure. 5. Discuss environmental health issues facing Iowa s Children. 6. Evaluate and initiate treatment for emergent environmental health exposures. 7. Screen and address parental concerns about environmental toxins. 8. Recognize the consequences of environmental exposure on young children s development. 9. Discuss environmental health initiatives in Iowa, nationally, and internationally. 10. Identify environmental health resources in Iowa. Registration Fees The registration fee for the conference is $200. The fee includes breaks, continental breakfast, luncheon, parking and the processing of continuing education credit. Nurses and other allied health professionals may register for $100. Full time Carver College of Medicine faculty, non-salaried clinical faculty may register for $100. Residents and fellows from other institutions may register for $75 upon presentation of a letter of introduction from their chief of staff. UI Residents, fellows and medical students may attend the conference for free but must register and pay $50 if they wish to receive lunch and conference materials. REFUNDS While registration is open until the start of the meeting, we encourage early registration to enable us to provide the best possible service to participants. All but $25 of the fee is refundable if inability to attend is made known on or before September 1, Refunds will not be made after this date. Conference Location The conference will be held at the University of Iowa in the Urmila Sahai Seminar Room, Sahai Medical Education Center, Room 2117 Medical Education and Research Facility, 375 Newton Road, Iowa City, Iowa. University of Iowa faculty and staff will not receive a parking pass. Credit Physician: The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Family Physician: Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending. Nurse: This program is offered in cooperation with the University of Iowa College of Nursing, an Iowa Board of Nursing approved provider, number 1. Full time attendance will award 7.5 contact hours. Program number has been assigned. All registered attendees will receive certificates of participation.
