1 The Multi-Gard PVC System is designed fr easy assembly as fllws: 1. Distribute Multi-Gard sectins alng the sides f the trench with male ends pinting twards starting vault entrance. 2. Remve prtective cap and install Multi-Gard terminatr n male end. Install first sectin int vault pening r enclsure making sure the print line is n the tp stating "INSTALL PRINT LINE UP." 3. Each cnsecutive 20' sectin can nw be placed by inserting the male end int the gasketed belled end 1/2" t the gasket depth. Make sure the print line is upright. (If nt, rtate the uter duct until it is.) Nw push the sectins tgether with a firm push by hand until belled end seats against insertin line. (Apply standard grade cement (VC9962) t male end if system will be used fr jetting). 2 Use a Type 1 Standard Terminatr als at an entrance where a pre-cast terminatr is nt available r a knckut is used: 1. Insert the male end sectin f Multi-Gard 4 inches past the inside wall f the vault with print line facing upward. 2. Remve the prtective cap frm the male end f the Multi-Gard. 3. Remve the watertight plugs and insert the terminatr t full depth. 4. Install bell fitting ver the end f the Multi-Gard using slvent cement, and replace plugs. 5. Slide Multi-Gard sectin until bell fitting is flush with inside, and then seal entrance as required by jb specificatins. Use a Type 6 Enclsure Terminatr at entrances int metal r nn-metallic enclsures abve grund. 1. Remve watertight plugs in rder t assure ttal insertin f the Multi- Gard innerducts. 2. Install terminatrs int male end f Multi-Gard t full depth. 3. Replace watertight plugs int the terminatr and tighten. 4. Install threaded adapter ver end f Multi-Gard using slvent cement. 3 The Multi-Gard belled end may als be used as a terminatr at entrances withut pre-cast terminatrs. 1. Insert the belled end flush with the inside wall f the vault with print line facing upward. 2. Insert water tight plugs int unused cells. 3. Insert flared bell fitting t full depth. 4. Seal entrance as required by jb specificatins. Use split plugs fr sealing Multi-Gard cells where cable has been installed. The pass-thrugh terminatr is designed t allw fr cntinuus ducts thrugh the vault r hand hle fr cable pulling. 1. Install terminatr int vault fllwing steps 1 thrugh 5 fr standard Type 1 terminatr. 2. Cut innerduct f pass thrugh kit 10" lnger than the width f the manhle. Add spacers as needed. 3. Upn cmpletin, remve the watertight plugs and install innerducts t traverse manhle/handhle by cutting t length inserting int ne side f handhle and raising r bwing center f innerduct span t insert int the pass-thrugh terminatr n the ppsite side. Use the jet terminatr fr jetting peratins. 1. Remve watertight plugs in rder t assure t ttal insertin. 2. Apply standard grade slvent cement (VC9962) t male end f Multi-Gard. 4 3. Replace watertight plugs int terminatr and tighten. 4. Apply standard grade slvent cement t terminatr male end and insert int pre-cast bell end. (Install PVC bell fitting in kit if pre-cast bell end is nt available). 5. Use shim enclsed fr terminatr requiring a cnnectin f Type C (4.35" O.D.) int a Type 40 (4.50" O.D.) terminatin. 6. Measure between ends f terminatrs n ppsite ends f vault, and cut innerduct t length. 7. Slvent cement each cupling int place r use mechanical cupling rated fr use with high speed air blwing systems. Multi-Gard PVC Trenching Installatin allws Multi-Gard in the trench t be placed ne sectin at a time r ver the trencher fr cntinuus feed. Open trenching with Type C Multi-Gard is recmmended fr direct burial r cncrete encased applicatins. Features: Install ne sectin at a time. Multiple-cells are installed as sn as prduct is placed. Ecnmical installatin with installatin speed as fast as the trencher can dig. Easy installatin with standard equipment. Gasketed cupling bdy prevents cnduit pulling apart during installatin. 5 Industry standard uter duct in Type C is suitable fr direct burial. Type 40 uter shell and Type 80 utershell are available where extra prtectin is necessary. Spacers inside utershell allw PVC innerduct internal mvement allwing fr mre flexibility. Prcedures: Paved Areas In paved areas, the surface shuld be carefully cut t prevent unnecessary excessive width at the tp f the trench and help reduce the amunt f surface t be repaved. Trench Width Fr ecnmical peratin, particularly where paving is invlved, the trench width shuld be n greater than is needed t prvide adequate wrking space. Generally, this dimensin is cntrlled by the types f excavating equipment used. As a minimum, the trench must be 5 inches wider than the width f the cnduit structure where backfill will be used and 3 inches wider where cncrete encasement will be used. Individual jb specificatins will dictate trench width. Trench Bed Grade and level the trench bed. Where necessary, prvide sand and/r ther granular backfill as bedding material s the cnduit will be evenly supprted ver the length f each sectin. Assembly On Tp Of The Trench After preparing the trench, the Multi-Gard can be assembled n tp f the grund utside f the trench. Once jined tgether, the Multi-Gard can then be laid gently int the trench. Backfill accrding t the jb specificatins. Trench Feeding Multi-Gard Using Rllers This prcedure invlves assembling the Multi-Gard abve the grund. After the first fur r five lengths are assembled, place n tp f the trenching machine. 6 be attached t the first sectin and assembled ahead f the trencher n the grund directly abve the intended place fr the trench. As the trencher advances frward, the Multi-Gard will lay itself int the trench behind. Once placed in the trench, backfill accrding t the jb specificatin. Multi-Gard PVC Bring is easy with the fllwing installatin prcedures. These recmmended prcedures have been tested by Carln engineers fr the easiest prcedure with the maximum hlding strength. Gasketed cupling bdy is water tight keeping ut water and drilling fluids. Only tl required is a battery perated drill with 1/4" hex head bit. Prcedures fr attaching t back reamer: (After bre has been made accrding t the bring equipment manufacturer s recmmendatins.) 1. Place mesh pulling grip ver capped plain end. 7 2. Assemble next sectin f Multi-Gard by applying Carln Quick-Set Cement t the utside f the plain end. Then, push the plain end int the belled end, checking fr print line alignment. 3. Screw a #10 hex head self tapping screw (refer t chart fr length) apprximately 3" and 4" frm the end f bell at apprximately 90. A ttal f 8 screws will give the jint tensile strength given in the table belw. Repeat prcedures 2 and 3 n each Multi-Gard PVC sectin. Part N.
