2 Job Purpose: The role of the Sports Physiotherapist is to provide physiotherapy services to players in the Exeter Chiefs Rugby Academy Programme at Bicton College, as well as deliver on the academic programmes within the academy. The role will maintain a high standard of player injury management and contribute to the on-going development of the rugby academy and academic provision. Major Duties and Responsibilities 1. To provide quality physiotherapy services to Elite Players within the High performance system. 2. Develop and implement programs for the prevention of injury. 3. Obtain relevant medical details from individuals team members for physiotherapy/sport data base. 4. Instil Injury Prevention programs and advice for players within the academy and communicate these to the coaching staff. 5. Protect players from injury risks through identifying areas of risk/overuse and encouraging effective preventive techniques. 6. Procure medical stock for appropriate treatment (medical kit including first aid, tapes, thermoplastics, electrotherapeutic devices, heat and ice packs, massage aids, plinths etc.) for the medical clinic. 7. Effectively assess and treat injuries in conjunction with other members of the medical team, aiming to return the player to Rugby safely and as quickly as possible. 8. Employ recovery strategies such as aquatic therapy, stretch sessions, massage and hydration refuelling requirements, working with the Sports team. 9. Manage First Aid provisions supplies and the management of minor medical problems with doctors and any First Aid staff, appointed by academy. 10. Advise coaching staff and sport staff as to the time required for injured players to return to training and competition 11. Compile Player Injury reports to be submitted to the Academy Head Coach 12. Maintain student registers and absence reports in line with College requirements and comply with other administrative procedures and College regulations. 13. Undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD). 14. Undertake such other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may reasonably be required. 15. 5 Person Specification: Strength & Conditioning Coach Essential Qualifications BSc Physiotherapy or equivalent Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) registration Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration. Formal teaching qualification Experience Ideally 2-4 years general work in the field of sports physiotherapy in elite sport environments. Experience working in elite sport. Desirable Pitch side care qualification Coaching qualification (s) D1/E Licence Experience in high level rugby union Experience of the FE / HE sector Skills Good communication skills, conveying to the player the structure and reasoning behind the recuperative program set. Good presentation and communication skills in the performance of teaching requirements and IT computer skills Ability to work within a team in a frequently changing and challenging work environment whilst maintaining a positive outlook to the team. Organisational skills in managing caseload(s). Very high levels of interpersonal skills are required in counselling players/coaches in terms of realistic treatment outcomes, time frames and compliance. This is often required in very stressful surroundings Well organised with excellent written and spoken communication skills Ability to effectively contribute to meetings including those dealing with complex technical information and sensitive and difficult issues Ability to produce detailed written material which is Ability to use IT in the context of the job Ability to take a planned and systematic approach to all aspects of the job Marketing and business management skills Page 5 of 6
