1 Job Title: Lead Specialist Teacher: Autism and Social Communication Difficulties Job Grade: MPR/UPR + SEN maximum +TLR2 of 5,118 Directorate: Job Reference Number: Schools, Children and Families P00367a Tier 7 People Commissioning The Role Provide a specialist, professional lead to co-ordinate the development of colleagues practice and services to schools within the Autism and Social Communication Difficulties Specialism (TLR 2, pts 1, 2 and 3) Provide specialist educational advice and support to schools for children with statements of Special Educational Needs (Autism and Social Communication Difficulties) (SEN1) Lead on the development and delivery of specialist training to schools within the County CPD programme and support to schools (TLR2, pt.1&2) Contribute to provision development and other County initiatives (TLR 2 pts 1&2) Job Purpose The duties outlined in this job description are in addition to those covered by the latest School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document. It may be modified by the Team Manager, with your agreement, to reflect or anticipate changes in the job, commensurate with the salary and job title. Key Accountabilities Lead, develop and enhance the practice of specialist colleagues with regard to the teaching and learning of children with Autism and Social Communication Difficulties (TLR2, pt.2) Manage the development and implementation of an Annual Specialist Development Plan (TLR2, pt.2)

2 Organise specialist meetings and staff training (Autism and Social Communication Difficulties Specialism) (TLR2, pt 2) Maintain up to date specialist teacher knowledge of current research and curriculum development (TLR pts 2&3) Lead on the development of specialist knowledge and practice regarding access to curriculum and pupil development across the curriculum (TLR2, pt 3) Manage the development of specialist resources to promote curriculum access (TLR 2, pt 3) Monitor the quality of specialist service delivery (TLR 2, pt 2) Provide specialist advice and support with regard to an individual caseload of children with Autism and Social Communication Difficulties (SEN1) Work in partnership with children, parents/carers, schools and other agencies Provide specialist assessments, including advice for Statutory Assessment Consult and advise schools/parents/pre-school providers on planning for children on caseload Ensure that planning promotes inclusion and attainment and progress within the National Curriculum Model effective teaching strategies/approaches Advise on, and lend where appropriate, resources to promote effective teaching, learning and access Plan and deliver training to schools of children on caseload Track and report on children s progress to inform future planning Contribute to Tribunals, as required Provide specialist advice to County initiatives to promote the progress of children with Autism and Social Communication Difficulties Specialism (TLR pts 1,2&3)

3 Lead in the planning and delivery of specialist in- service training to schools, within the County CPD programme (TLR2, pt 1) Provide advice to LA, schools and other agencies regarding the development of educational provision for pupils with Autism and Social Communication Difficulties (TLR 2, pts 1,2 &3) Contribute to cross-service working groups within the LA and with other agencies (TLR2, pt 1) Participate in Out of Authority Annual Reviews, on behalf of the LA (TLR2, pt 1) Assist the Specialist Teacher Managers to maintain and develop area SEN services (SEN1) Advise and assist the Specialist Teacher Team Managers on the countywide deployment of specialist staff (TLR2, pt 1) All LA employees will be expected to: Participate in the performance and development review process Comply with individual responsibilities in accordance with work role, for health and safety in the workplace Ensure that all duties and services are in accordance with the County Council Equal Opportunities Policy and Practice Knowledge, Skills and Experience DFE recognised teaching qualification Further post-graduate qualification/ professional development in a relevant area of special needs (SEN2) Further extensive experience in a relevant area of special educational needs (SEN2)
