2 Introduction The detection or monitoring of flue gases and or hazardous gases has been a complex subject and makes choosing an appropriate gas monitoring instrument a difficult task. Emission monitoring are legal requirements governing air pollutants released into the atmosphere. Emission standards set quantitative limits on the permissible amount of specific air pollutants that may be released from specific sources over specific timeframes. They are generally designed to achieve air quality standards and to protect human health. Furnaces, heaters, boilers burn fuel in the presence of oxygen and produces flue gases. Scrubbers in continuous process industries release toxic or hazardous gases.
