2 1.0 Introduction: The Ambient Air Monitoring System (AAMS) can measure a range of toxic and flammable gases, particulate matter, meteorological and environmental parameters simultaneously all within a small, discreet enclosure. These include: Up to 8 toxic and flammable gases. PM10, PM2.5, TSP particulate concentrations. Up to 40 additional meteorological and environmental parameters in the local vicinity. The modular concept of the AAMS means that you can easily change and refit sensors as your project requirements change. Users can configure the data acquisition system quickly or send in their requested changes to their dedicated technical support team who will prepare a new configuration file for the user. The AAMS can be networked to provide a more accurate picture of pollution and environmental patterns at your site of interest. Multiple units within a network reduce measurement uncertainty and provide more useful data than a singular fixed ambient air monitoring site. The powerful data acquisition system built within the AAMS ensures that all critical measurements relevant to your project and regulations are measured and analysed in situ, ensuring rapid response when needed. User defined calculations and conditions can be easily set so that the system will alert key stakeholders when criterion has been breached. Data can be accessed anywhere in the world using the proprietary cloud based analysis software ClimateCloud and you can add an unlimited number of sites to your network with unlimited downloads of data. 1.1 Key Benefits: Modular concept allows users to swap and change sensors as project requirements change. 5 3.0 Toxic and Flammable Gas Range: The following toxic and flammable gas sensors can be integrated into the system: 3.1 Carbon Monoxide (CO) Sensor: Carbon Monoxide is colourless and odourless and can be fatal if not correctly monitored and managed. Source is from incomplete combustion of flammable fuels and can come from vehicles, power plants and fire amongst others. 6 3.3 Nitrogen Dioxide (NO 2) Sensor: A significant contributor to smog and pollution inside cities it is also toxic and a major risk to human health. Complications include respiratory diseases and increased risk of heart complications. Sources are from combustion of fuels and manufacturing processes ppm -15 to 40 ⁰C % RH continuous operation Supply voltage VDC (0.9 W) 185 g Ingress Protection IP Nitrogen Oxide (NO) Sensor: Nitrogen oxides are a group of gases that can cause smog and respiratory and health related diseases. This sensor will detect both forms of the oxide and the measurement range can be selected. This gas has been linked to adverse respiratory conditions and also a leading contributor to acid rain. 7 3.6 Ozone (O 3) Sensor: Ozone at low altitudes can be a serious health risk and is a significant pollutant. Like NO 2, it is a major component of smog. It is formed when other pollutants in the atmosphere, react in the presence of UV to form ozone. If detected it may indicate leaks or issues with chemical processes during manufacturing or significant decomposition if found on a landfill site. 8 3.10 Methane (CH 4) Sensor: This sensor will detect concentration of methane in the atmosphere against the lower explosion limit % of methane in air. It will not give you a concentration in ppm but instead a %. 9 4.0 Real Time Particulate Matter Monitoring System: Particulate matter is a primary pollutant and can cause a range of respiratory complications if the matter is inhaled. It can come from a wide range of sources including construction dust, manufacturing or from exhaust fumes from diesel engines. Our real time particulate monitoring system is based on a light scattering principle which detects the angle of light as a result of diffraction from the particulate. Our system is approved under the UK Environmental Agency MCERTS scheme and is an approved measurement principle (EN14907:2005 PM 2.5, EN12341:1998 for PM 10), in the European Directive for Ambient Air Quality (2008/50/EC). Air is continually drawn through our heated inlet and then analysed in real time. Measurement ranges can be configured by the user to measure certain particulate matter sizes or total suspended particulate concentration (TSP). It will also give wind direction allowing the prevailing wind to be identified so that if there are higher toxic limits the source can be identified. 10 5.2 Meteorological and Environmental Sensors: For the full range of additional meteorological and environmental sensors that are compatible with the Ambient Air Monitoring System please refer to our product brochure. Users can connect up to 40 additional sensors to their Ambient Air Monitoring System (exact number will depend on configuration).

11 6.0 Data Acquisition and Communication Module: The powerful data acquisition system will poll all the sensors in real time so that up to the minute information is available for the end user. Alarms and maths functions can be configured quickly and easily to meet the end user s needs and as project requirements change the system can be easily programmed to provide new functionality. 6.1 Communication Protocols: The AAMS can be connected to a host computer via the following methods: Wired Ethernet (as standard): If there is a host computer nearby then Ethernet provided a guaranteed real time link of data from the AAMS to the host computer. This will connect to our real time local software package Wifi Bridge (option): If cable is not permitted but the host computer is in close range within a LAN then this is an ideal solution for real time data monitoring. This will connect to our real time local software package Ultra High Frequency Radio Transmitter/ Receiver (option): For line of sight distances of 1-2 km the wireless transmitter receiver assembly will provide real time data transfer to the host computer. Ideal for fenceline monitoring applications at larger processing sites. This will connect to our real time local software package G/ GPRS Modem (standard): When you require a networked solution around a pollution zone you will need the 3G modem. This will periodically export data to our cloud based software package ClimateCloud. You can access the data anywhere in the world and at any time. Data will not be in real time but when an alarm condition is activated, s and SMS alerts will be sent to key stakeholders. (Please note sim card will need to be purchased separately). 7.0 Software: The AAMS comes with two software packages, which are both free of charge. 7.1 Local Real Time Software: This software will be used when the system is connected to a local area network. It will be given an IP address and will show data in real time. Munro Instruments will pre configure the trending graphs and mathematic functions that are needed for the end user application. If project requirements change, the software allows you to quickly and easily change the parameters in situ. This software is compatible with Ethernet, WiFi and UHF transmission protocols. 7.2 Cloud Based ClimateCloud: Climatecloud is a cloud based software platform that allows users to access their AAMS network anywhere in the world. An unlimited number of AAMS can be added to the software and separated into group s dependant on location. Data will be polled periodically at intervals specified by the user. Trending and maths functionality is included with unlimited csv download available. Long term data

12 storage means your data will be stored indefinitely. 5 year subscription included in price. Can be purchased annually or package thereafter. 8.0 Installation & Dismantling: The AAMS has been designed with flexibility and simplicity in mind. The discreet enclosure can be mounted onto poles, frames and walls with the included U bolts and brackets. A 3.5 m aluminium tripod is included in the package price and be assembled within 15 minutes. The entire unit can be assembled between minutes with two persons. Calibration procedures will be dependent on the type of gas sensors installed. Please refer to section 11 for calibration. The unit can be placed in a wide range of environments. Due to system heating the unit can operate below sub-zero conditions and the enclosure is ingress protected apart from the inlet for the particulate matter monitor. Dismantling of the system can be achieved within minutes with two persons. The unit is small enough to be transported in a vehicle. It is recommended to keep the device in the storage box provided when in transit. Calibration of sensors can be performed in situ and the particulate monitor can either be calibrated in situ or sent back to the workshop. Sensors can be swapped and replaced quickly and easily as project requirements change. Lifetime of sensors varies between 6 24 months and depends on usage and operating environment. A detailed maintenance plan will be included with any purchase of the AAMS Calibration: Calibration can be performed in situ greatly reducing the cost involved in maintaining the system. The process works by connecting the particular calibration gas to the sensor and testing the range. This is a quick process and greatly reduces the downtime of the system compared to that of a fixed ambient air monitoring system. *Depending on the specification of the system, some sensors may need to be brought back to the workshop for in house calibration. Detailed instructions of the calibration processes for all the gases selected will be provided with your order.
