However, we have the powerful opportunity to touch, change and save our area youth from the incidence and impact of substance abuse. The 2012 Power of Prevention Breakfast will benefit The Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse s youth prevention programs. Please show your support by donating an online auction item (will run September 13 October 8); together we can meet the goal of 50,000 additional local youth drug-free by $2,000 value donation will provide required local match for a federal grant supporting the Dallas Area Drug Prevention Partnership; this coalition implements community-level change initiatives regarding youth and adolescent alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, cheese heroin and prescription drug abuse $1,000 value donation will rescue, defend, shelter and support an estimated 11.9% of children who live in drug endangered environments via the establishment of a community s new local drug endangered children alliance $500 value donation will impact six of the area s highest risk students in local alternative schools by providing them The Council s Project Towards No Drug Abuse curriculum and individual counseling sessions $250 value donation will provide five local substance abusing youth who are at risk of contracting HIV with free education, testing, counseling and referrals for treatment, medical, shelter or other community resources $100 value donation will provide nine area youth access to HOPE, the Substance Abuse Helpline, for interactive and personalized information, support and community referrals Your online auction donation is crucial to the tens of thousands of area youth who receive materials/resources or direct services from The Council each year! This is achieved through an expansive network of evidence-based services that prevent problems with alcohol and other drugs before they occur, intervene when they do and promote recovery for people already addicted. For 66 years, The Council has developed relationships and connections positively affecting community dialogue, resource sharing, community development and evidence-based solutions to the #1 preventable health problem in the United States substance abuse. The Council s work has received accolades and awards, coverage by national publications, and inclusion in the Congressional Record. But most importantly, since opening its doors in 1946, millions of North Texans have been reached, changed and/or saved. Last year alone, The Council trained or directly served 43,667 people and provided resources/materials for another 148,235 people. This is due to donations, sponsorships and support of local community members, foundations, organizations and companies.
