Pearson Canada looks for a balance of hard skills (core competencies) and soft skills, including training, experience and attitude. Pearson values individuals who demonstrate the required technical (e.g., software/application) training required in a specific discipline/career area together with a positive attitude and outlook. A desire to learn and a high level of commitment and motivation are essential. 3 Division: Penguin Group Canada Department: Publicity & Marketing Position: Assistant Media Developer. This position is located at the Penguin, Toronto office. Major Responsibilities: Assist Penguin Web Architect and Online marketing co-ordinator as directed by Director of Online Marketing Perform regular website maintenance/updates, using Penguin Content Management Tool, including marketing content uploads, monthly features, event postings. 4 Cross Media Publishing Services Position: Media Content Developer, B&E. This position is based out of the Don Mills office. Summary Reporting to the Manager, Media Development, the Media Content Developer (B&E) is responsible for reliable development of effective and strategic content for interactive, educational media for post-secondary business and economics courses and textbooks. Responsibilities advise Higher Education Acquisitions Editors (AEs) for the business and economics lists on current and potential media opportunities and any risks; collaborate with AEs to develop and refine media strategies as well as create development schedules and budgets for their lists; recruit, develop and maintain SMEs and reviewers adequate to fulfill the media publishing objectives and schedules of discipline lists, in consultation with AEs build and coordinate productive, cooperative relationships with content development counterparts in other Pearson groups; in consultation with the Manager, Media Development, assign some projects to Media Content Editors once SMEs for the projects have been qualified and hired; oversee and mentor the content development work of the Content Editor; supervise, hire, and develop Media Content Editor, where applicable to a discipline area; communicate status of projects to media stakeholders for the discipline; acquire sufficient expertise in any proprietary technological products, elearning platforms, authoring tools, and content preparation methods relevant to the designated disciplines to be able to advise media stakeholders on their opportunities and risks and to train and guide SMEs and reviewers to the creation of error-free and functional content; for certain title-specific projects, as determined with the Manager, Media Development, directly coordinate SMEs and reviewers in the efficient and proper preparation of quality, accurate content; ensure content developed is timely, cost-effective, error-free, complete, and responsive to market needs; attend all media transmittal meetings as well as launch meetings for all texts/titles having a media component in the discipline area; participate in/prepare updated reports for regular media development and production meetings; train and hire any independent contractors required for the content development of specific projects

5 Qualifications university degree, preferably related to one of the assigned disciplines 2+ years experience in developing e-learning programs or designing content for educational technology project management experience in delivering solutions through technology understanding of full project life cycle from concept to product delivery knowledge of educational publishing and content development familiarity with authoring tools and content preparation for dynamic environments an asset detail-oriented and creative problem solver strong and proactive oral and written communication skills familiarity with HTML, Flash, XML, PDF, audio and video assets self-motivated team player able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

JOB SUMMARY The position is responsible for the development and upkeep of the websites and e-commerce catalogues for the educational divisions (Higher Education & School). RESPONSIBILITIES Construct and maintain websites (static and dynamic in various formats) Assists in the design, coding, and testing of technical systems Actively participate in the maintenance of e-commerce catalogues across different platforms Manage the company intranet Coordinate the development and production of various features and promotions Apply optimization measures Participate in research and development projects QUALIFICATIONS Diploma or degree in web technologies or digital media with 1-2 years progressive experience as a webmaster or web developer In-depth knowledge of (X)HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Hands-on experience coding to web standards Hands-on experience with basic image editing skills in Photoshop Hands-on programming experience with PHP and mysql Hands-on experience customizing open source CMS applications, for example WordPress and Joomla Hands-on experience with Unix/Linux Knowledge of industry trends and best practices for usability, accessibility, as well as SEO Knowledge of best practices for web programming, QA processes, and version control Understands basic relational database concepts Hands-on programming experience with CGI/Perl and ColdFusion are assets Basic knowledge of XML and XSLT are assets Knowledge of Flash, Flex, FlashBuilder are assets Highly organized and energetic self-starter with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Thorough attention to detail Ability to take charge of solving a problem, from beginning to end Adaptable and innovative team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills

The position is located in the Don Mills office. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Liaise with editorial personnel on product development and design Oversee external suppliers and developers Provide technical support to editorial and marketing staff Design, develop, and manage new products for the web and for physical media in accordance with divisional needs Coordinate testing of products Coordinate the production of new media products, especially web sites that accompany textbooks (e.g., proprietary course management systems) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: College diploma in information or web technologies or in graphic arts Strong interpersonal and communication skills Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of Flash and Actionscript programming Hands-on programming experience with HTML, DHTML, CGI/PERL, JavaScript, XML Experience with information and interface design Familiarity with Mac, Windows, and UNIX platforms; In-depth knowledge of Web technologies, including programming and understanding of databases
