2 6 th ANNUAL CARDIOLOGY UPDATE Conference Overview This educational activity is designed to present state-of-the-art knowledge in cardiovascular disease. This is an overview of current and novel modalities including development and data for treatment of hyperlipidemia, heart failure, advances in echocardiography 3D imaging, update on TAVR, and the evolution of anticoagulation treatment in atrial fibrillation. Additional discussions include evolving data on treatment of multivessel disease vs. culprit vessel disease in the setting of an acute myocardial infarction, leadless pacemakers, genetic testing for cardiology and cardioprotective foods. Advances in the field of cardiovascular medicine will be reviewed and demonstrated through these lectures and case studies. Designed For This course is intended for practicing Cardiologists, Cardiac Surgeons, Cardiovascular Trainees, Family Practice/ Internal Medicine Physicians, Hospitalists, Physician Assistants, Cardiology Technologists, Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses with a cardiovascular interest. Credit Designation Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 7.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This credit can apply to the CMA Certification of Continuing Medical Education. Course Objectives Understand how latest trials reinforce guidelines of evidenced based recommendations. Understand rationale for intensive treatment of high risk secondary prevention, debates age 40 and over with LDL-C > 70 and those with LDL-C > 190. Understand the mechanism of action of PC SK9 inhibitors. Describe the effect of PC SK9 inhibitors on LDL-C levels in heterozygotes familial hyperlipidemia patients who are statin intolerant and on minimally tolerated statins not achieving LDL-C treatment goals. Understand current guideline-directed medical therapy for heart failure with reduced injection fraction. Describe indications for the use of invabradine. Review the proposed indications for other new medical therapies for heart failure. Describe current anticoagulation management strategies for Atrial Fibrillation. Describe monitoring devices including new pulmonary artery pressure sensors. Identify the need for solid modeling, recognize the methodology of 3D printing and describe the clinical applications. Identify the scope of practice of TAVR in the U.S. challenges and opportunities Describe approach to STEMI for complete vs. incomplete revascularization. Appreciate the current randomized and meta analytic studies of STEMI PCI. Review the limitations of using coronary physiology (FFR) to assess non-culprit lesions in the STEMI patient for decisions regarding complete revascularization. Explore the foods which provide cardiac protection, their key components, and their role in reduction in inflammation, hypertension, and cholesterol. Describe Leadless Pacemakers and how they can benefit the cardiac patient. Identify familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, familial aortic aneurysms, collagen disorders with CV complications, and prolonged QT syndrome. Determine which patients would benefit from genetic testing and understand and implement cardiovascular screening tools for family members at risk.
