1 VIDEO CONFERENCING TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS AND SETUP TUTORIAL Conferences are conducted through the class website. No special conferencing software or service is required. Participation requires that your computer and Internet connection meet the technical specifications below. 1 - Fast Internet connection Video conferencing requires a very fast Internet connection. Think of video chat over Skype and multiply by 10 for an idea of just how much bandwidth it requires. Most providers (AT&T, Verizon, etc.) recommend their fastest tier of service for video conferencing. The following minimum Internet connection speeds are required: Download speed: 12 Mb/s Upload speed: 0.5 Mb/s (512 Kb/s) You can test the speed of your connection at the link below: If your connection does not meet the minimum requirement you will have to contact your Internet service provider to upgrade your connection for the six weeks of your class. Inability to connect or remain connected is not an excuse for failing to participate in live sections. WiFi connections cannot deliver the consistency required for conferencing. Make sure you are able to connect directly to your router or cable modem via Ethernet cable.* 2 - Up-to-date operating system and software Video conferencing with its multiple simultaneous video chats demands a good deal from your computer. The following platforms are required: Windows 7+ Mac OS X (Snow Leopard or higher) 3 - Upgrade your browser to the latest version: Firefox Safari Explorer Chrome *1) Hotel Internet connections and WiFi at coffee shops (Starbucks, Coffee Bean, etc.) are not sufficiently fast for conferencing. 2) Smartphones and tablets (such as iphones and ipads) do support live conferences, however, 3G/4G/LTE/WiFi connections are not sufficiently reliable for participating in online sections. It is highly recommended you use a computer with a wired internet connection.

2 4 - Upgrade to the latest version of Flash Player: Plug in your headset before you begin the rest of the setup.** 6 - Configure Your Computer's Sound Settings Mac OSX Windows XP Windows Vista and Windows 7 Windows Log into Class Website at **You are required to have a headset (headphones with attached microphone). iphone headsets are not allowed. 3 8 - Find the LIVE SESSION panel. Click on the blue button that reads "ENTER CONFERENCE." 9 - Click on your section number to enter the Adobe Connect conference Click on MEETING then AUDIO SETUP WIZARD. Choose your headset from drop down menu.

4 11 - Turn on your webcam: 1) Click on the microphone icon. 2) Click ALLOW on the Abode Flash pop-up. 3) Click on webcam icon. This turns on your webcam's camera. 4) Click START SHARING to broadcast your video. (No one can see you until you do). 5 Configure Your Computer's Sound Settings: Mac OS 10.6 and above 1 - Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of your screen. Select System Preferences. 2 - Click on the Sound icon.

6 3 - Click the Output tab. Select the model of your conferencing headset. Selecting your headset will direct sound to your headphones instead of your computer speakers. Back to Top

7 Configure Your Computer's Sound Settings: Windows XP 1 - Open the Start menu and select Control Panel. 2 - Double-click on Sounds and Audio Devices.

8 3 - Open the Audio tab. Select the model of your headset in the Sound Playback dropdown menu. 4 - Find the Volume button in the Sound Recording section of the panel. 5 - The Volume window opens. Make sure Microphone Mute is not checked. Back to Top

9 Configure Your Computer's Sound Settings: Windows Vista & Windows From the Start menu, select the Control Panel. 2 - In the Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound.

10 3 - In the Hardware and Sound window, select Manage Audio Devices. 4 - Find and select the model of your headset in the Playback tab. NOTE: Sometimes, as in this example, your headphones will appear as a speaker icon instead of a headphones icon. Choose based on the brand and model of your headset, not the icon. Back to Top

11 Configure Your Computer's Sound Settings: Windows In the Windows Start screen, start typing sound to open the search bar. Select Sound from the search results. 2 - The Sound window opens. Select the Playback tab. Tap or click on the model of your headset. NOTE: Sometimes your headphones will appear as a speaker icon instead of a headphones icon.
