2 The Inaugural Mountjoy Meeting August 23 rd -28 th, 2015 Banff, Alberta Introduction On behalf of the SEPM Society for Sedimentary Geology and Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG), we are writing to request Corporate Level Sponsorship of the Inaugural Mountjoy Conference to be held at the end of August, The meeting is an international carbonate research conference, in memory of Dr. Eric Mountjoy, and will revolve around Advances in Characterization and Modeling of Complex Carbonate Reservoirs. This is the first in a planned series of Mountjoy Conferences that will recur every four years, but in different international venues. A key objective of the Mountjoy Series is that their topics will be relevant to the petroleum industry and therefore blend the best of cutting-edge geoscience research with industry needs. We are writing to you in hopes that your company can financially contribute towards the meeting. Key reasons for sponsorship include: - Many geoscientists are members of and benefit from the activities of the SEPM and CSPG the Mountjoy Series is the first formal arrangement in the history of these societies for joint meetings, and the societies need support from the corporate community to ensure success. - Carbonate reservoir characterization is an important area of research for the petroleum industry. From oil, gas, and bitumen reservoirs to subsurface disposal zones and the stratigraphy underneath the Canadian oil sands, carbonates directly impact our business. Industry and academic groups from the Middle East, Europe, United States, the U.K., and Canada have already indicated their intent to participate and local geoscientists will greatly benefit from this showcase of expertise. - Dr. Eric Mountjoy was one of the greats in Canadian geoscience because he helped define the geological framework in western Canada as well as broader concepts of carbonate stratigraphy, from which the industry has greatly benefitted. - The meeting is striving to be accessible to both academic and student geoscientists and corporate sponsorship will ensure that we can offer support for their participation. 1
