3 Where can I go for help? School Counselors assist with academic advising, career planning, and personal social needs Mrs. Lory Sakay (office in the media center) provides brief counseling, group counseling and referrals to outside resources Report bullying immediately To a teacher, security, administration, parent, or counselor! Bullying is: Repetitive & Intentional Bullying will NOT be tolerated and will be handled instantly once reported. Think before you Send cyber bullying will result in consequences Peer counselors assist in conflict resolution, peer mediation, peer tutoring, and mentorship in room 109! Academic help - Inquire about tutoring by asking your teacher for help Media center is open every day after school

4 Middle School Graduation Requirements In order to enter any high school in Florida you MUST fulfill 2 requirements: 1 st You MUST pass ALL core classes all 3 years You must maintain A s and B s all year in advanced or Pre-AP classes to be placed in Honors classes next year. 2 nd You MUST create a PAC Plan showing 24 planned credits for high school

5 Must pass core classes all 3 years and create a PAC Plan 6 th grade Language Arts 1 Math 1,2, or 3 Comprehensive Science 1 World History Did you pass these already? 7 th grade Language Arts 2 Math 2, 3, or Algebra 1 Honors Comprehensive Science 2 Civics 8 th grade Language Arts 3 Pre-Alg., Algebra 1, or Geometry Comprehensive Science 3 US History & Career Plan Complete your PAC Plan with 24 credits Pass these!

6 Course Recovery Somerset Virtual Academy (SVA) is the online school used for course recovery If a student fails a core class they will have to re-take it and pass it Language Arts Math Science US History during the summer bummer! During the summer, your parents will have to pay

7 What are grades worth? A = 4 points B = 3 points Success zone Add your points every quarter! GPA grade point average C = 2 points D = 1 point F = 0 points Danger Zone Everyone needs a 2.0 GPA to graduate high school(that s a C average!)

9 What is a PAC Plan? Personal Academic Career Plan Developed in US History Class Set goals and plan for high school Get good grades to qualify for dual enrollment in the future Plan on taking Honors and AP classes (maintain A s and B s) Its never too early to research colleges

12 FSA FOUR tests in April/May Reading Math Writing Science What do I have to get to PASS the FSA? Level 3 Intensive classes will replace electives if FSA scores are a 2 or below in reading and math

13 EOC end of course exam Which courses have an EOC? Algebra 1 /Algebra 1 Honors Geometry Honors *Civics If you are in either of these classes you will take an EOCend of course exam NOT your 8 th grade math FSA You must pass EOC to get credit for Algebra 1 and it will count as 30% of your final grade The Geometry EOC will count as 30% of your final grade

14 8 th Grade Panther Package Includes all your fun 8 th grade activities including Prom, field trips, yearbook, and class shirt 8th Graders will NOT be allowed to participate in the Panther Package or in any 8th Grade events if they have the following: Absences 5 or more unexcused absences in any class Tardies 20 or more tardies to school Misconduct Placed in Indoor/Outdoor suspension or misbehavior at school Grade Point Average (GPA) Failure to maintain a 2.0 average in the 8 th grade in the first 3 Quarters. Promotion Criteria Participation in the 8 th Grade Events is contingent upon meeting all 8 th Grade Promotion Criteria by the end of the 3 rd Quarter. If not met, student will NOT participate in Prom nor the End of the Year Trip (ex. missing credits, in course recovery, etc.)
