2 MIDDLE SCHOOL GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 3 Years of English Language Arts 3 Years of Mathematics 3 Years of Science 3 Years of Social Studies (including Civics) Career Education

3 MIDDLE SCHOOL PROMOTION From 6 th to 7 th and from 7 th to 8 th : Student must pass a minimum of 4 subjects, 2 of which must be the Language Arts, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies. From 8 th to 9 th : Completion of the Middle School General Requirements

4 RETENTION/RECOVERY * Course recovery is offered at the end of first semester and at the beginning of summer. * Students can take up to 2 classes simultaneously. * Classes are offered in school through Plato/ Computer. * There is a fee for these classes. * Students taking course recovery during the summer will have to complete before school starts or will have to retake the course on their schedule (8 th graders will be retained).

5 REMEDIAL CLASSES Students will be placed in Intensive Reading and Intensive Mathematics according to their performance on the state standardized tests.

6 HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL Students are able to earn High School credits for selected courses taken in the Middle School. CSCS offers: * Algebra 1 Honors (7 th grade GEM or 8 th grade Advanced students) * Geometry Honors (8 th grade GEM) * Spanish 1 * Spanish 2 * French 1 * French 2

7 HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL GPA Grade Point Average is a point system that averages ALL high school courses grades students take up to their high school graduation. The 2 main reasons GPA is important are: 1. High School graduation requirement 2. College acceptance

8 HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL FORGIVINESS For middle grades students taking high school courses, forgiveness for required courses shall be limited to replacing a grade of C, D, F, or I with a grade of C or higher, earned subsequently in the same or comparable course. Only the new grade shall be used in the calculation of the student s grade point average for graduation. The student s record, however, will show all courses and grades taken.

9 HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL FORGIVINESS At CSCS ALL students taking High School courses in Middle School who earn a C or under are automatically scheduled in the same course for forgiveness (unless students earned a C or under only in a semester and choose to retake it online during the summer).

14 Cambridge in the Middle School 6 th Grade students are placed in different levels (intensive, regular and advanced) according to their test scores and course selection CSCS Cambridge Program starts in the 7 th Grade ALL students in advanced classes are exposed to the Cambridge Curriculum Cambridge curriculum delivered by Language Arts and Science classes in 7 th and 8 th Grade

15 High School s Curriculum The AICE (Advanced International Certificate of Education)/Cambridge Diploma is designed for educational breadth, balance and to build on students strengths In 9 th grade students begin with Pre- Cambridge courses In 10 th, 11 th and 12 th grade students take Cambridge courses and examinations for college credits

16 DIPLOMA To Earn the AICE/Cambridge diploma students must choose and pass the test in one full AICE level class from each of the following groups of study: Group 1 - Mathematics & Science Group 2 - Languages Group 3 - Arts & Humanities Students then must choose and pass the test for three additional AICE level classes from any of the above areas or from Group 4: Group 4 Interdisciplinary and Skills based subjects Students must take and pass the exams for the Global Perspectives
