2 Background and Mission Founded in 1967, the Faculty of Business and Commercial Sciences at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik is considered to be among the leaders in business education in the Middle East. Since its foundation, the Faculty has been dedicated to educating its students in organization management, within a culture of sustainable development, loyal to the tricentenary tradition of the Lebanese Maronite Order, holder of a heritage which it carefully preserves and has never ceased to enrich. Anxious to develop its relations with international institutions, within different frameworks of university and institutional cooperation, the Faculty has been, since 1997, a member of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie and headquarters of the Secretariat General of the Association of the Faculties of Business of Arab Universities. The Faculty has also established partnership relations and bilateral agreements with European, North American and Arab universities and leading business schools, in order to ensure an education that meets the needs of international managers. Program of Master in Financial Engineering Why choose a Master in Financial Engineering? The financial market globalization process is leading to work in all financial markets of the planet, at any time and from any location. The increasing sophistication of financial management, the complexity of financial products, the required technical expertise for trading and hedging, has triggered the need for a cutting-edge specialized training for all those who would like to build a career in the field of finance. Background and Mission Intellectual skills and technical expertise are essential for anyone who wishes to succeed in the following fields: - Asset allocation and wealth management; - Evaluation, trading and arbitration in financial markets; - Corporate finance; - Financial engineering and the creation of structured products; - Back-office and risk management. This Master in Financial Engineering is a 24 month training program, offered to students and to professionals, who wish to specialize or improve their quality of expertise in financial markets. This curriculum offers students, who are advanced in mathematics and who have excellent analytical skills, the opportunity to pursue a career in the world of High Finance. Combining teaching and research, the program provides graduates with essential skills in specialized areas of theory and practice of finance. It is based on strong quantitative knowledge, which enables a deepened understanding of finance, mathematics and statistics, so as to face the competition of modern financial markets and to seize future opportunities for careers. 3

3 Program of Master in Financial Engineering Therefore, the objectives of the program are to: - Provide managers and employees with specialized and operational training in the financial sectors closely related to the evolution and spread of financial markets. This will also enable them to independently produce analysis reports, research reports and become suitable for fund management; - Help promote and support research, training and transfer of financial information, particularly in areas related to stock markets; - Offer training, research services and reports to partners; - Provide students and professionals with a training environment and activities, enabling them to become familiar with financial information and commonly used practice tools. This program also consists in preparing applicants for the CMT (Chartered Market Technician) exams. Thanks to the Trading Room of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, students can have access to a real-time environment, similar in all respects to that of financial institutions, thus enabling them to significantly deepen their knowledge and to combine theory and practice. Admission and Selection The Master in Financial Engineering is addressed to Lebanese and foreign Higher Education graduates, who hold at least a Bachelor degree in business and commercial sciences (Bac + 3 at least) or a diploma judged equivalent by the Committee of Equivalence at the Ministry of National Education; candidates should also have a strong scientific background. The selection includes two stages: 1. Eligibility: every applicant should pass the written entrance exam required by the Faculty s regulations of the Master programs. 2. Admission: a thorough study of the record of each applicant and an interview with a jury of professors, instructors and professionals. This interview aims to better understand the applicant s motivation, qualities and character. It also helps verify that the applicant s professional aspirations are consistent with the vocational objectives of the Master in Financial Engineering. 4 Trading Room - Thomson Reuters Dealing Room The Trading Room of the Faculty of Business at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik is considered as one of the largest and best equipped among other universities. This room can be easily compared to those of companies as prestigious as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States, HEC Paris in France, HEC Montreal in Canada, and that of Reading University in the United Kingdom. It is supplied with real-time financial data, linked with information and analysis services of the renowned financial news agency Thomson Reuters, and has 20 operational workstations. In the Trading Room, students benefit from professional equipment, identical to the ones used in Trading departments of major international banks, and from portfolio management simulation Stock-Track. Computers with high performance receive real-time market and economic information. The specialized courses in Trading, as well as several other applications, offer to students a cutting-edge training in order to face the modern markets early in their career. 5
