1 American University of Beirut Rafic Hariri School of Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) The BSN program is registered by the Department of Education of New York State and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education in the United States. Applicants with a recognized secondary school diploma are eligible for this program that focuses on theory and research as the basis for practice.

2 Objectives The program prepares generalists to provide high quality humanistic care to a multicultural clientele in various health care settings. Admission Requirements» Students admitted with the Lebanese Baccalaureate or equivalent who enter as sophomores are required to complete 102 credit hours over a period of three academic years and two summer sessions.» Students admitted with other secondary school certificates who enter as freshman are required to complete 130 credit hours over a period of four academic years and two summer sessions. Curriculum The program combines a liberal arts education with professional nursing education in both academic and clinical settings. Students take courses at the Hariri School of Nursing and other AUB faculties. Clinical experience is provided in hospitals and community settings in cooperation with various health care agencies. Students take courses in English and Arabic, the humanities, economics and social sciences, basic medical sciences, and nursing. Nursing courses include classroom teaching and clinical training in health-care settings. Students are required to take two electives and can choose from a wide selection of courses such as education, nutrition, psychology, languages, ethics, poetry, etc.

3 American University of Beirut Rafic Hariri School of Nursing Registered Nurse Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) The RN-BSN bridging program is registered by the Department of Education of New York State and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in the United States. It provides graduates of technical programs in nursing with the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The program focuses on theory and research as the basis for practice.

Admission Requirements» Three years of work experience preferred» English Entrance Exam» Candidate may be asked to interview with the school director and/or program coordinator Curriculum The 90-credit curriculum can be completed in two and a half years on a full-time basis. All students are expected to complete the program within six years. A selected number of nursing courses may be validated if applicable. The program combines a liberal arts education with professional nursing education in both academic and clinical settings. Students take courses at the Hariri School of Nursing and other AUB faculties. Clinical experience is provided in hospitals and community settings and is usually tailored according to the student s background. 5 American University of Beirut Rafic Hariri School of Nursing Bachelor of Science Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BS-BSN) The BS-BSN program is registered by the Department of Education of New York State and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in the United States. This program is open for students who have a BS or BA degree and are interested in earning a second undergraduate degree in nursing.

6 Objectives The program prepares generalists to provide humanistic care to a multicultural clientele in various health care settings. Structure» Students must take prerequisites and all nursing courses to satisfy the requirements of the BSN degree.» Students must be resident at AUB for a minimum of four semesters.» Students are evaluated individually and their curriculum planned accordingly. Curriculum This accelerated program is designed for individuals who have a BS or BA in a field other than nursing. The streamlined curriculum permits students to earn a BSN in 24 months. Students who graduate from this program are eligible to sit for the Lebanese National Colloquium Exam to qualify to become registered nurses.
