Introduction Al Yamamah University (YU) was first authorized by the Saudi Ministry of Higher Education in May 2001 to provide academic programs in business administration and information systems. Initially founded as Al Yamamah College, YU opened its doors to the public in September 2004, offering a bachelor s degree in business administration with five concentrations. The ultra-modern campus, located on the Riyadh-Qassim Highway, north of Riyadh, was built at a total cost of 250 million Saudi Riyals (approximately 66 million USD), and provides state-of-the-art facilities that support YU s high-quality educational programs. From its earliest days, the university has dedicated itself to recruiting experienced and proven faculty and staff members who have provided valuable leadership in the design and delivery of both degree and non-degree programs that focus on quality, integrity, fairness and progressive, yet practical, education. In all of its activities, YU seeks to conform to the highest standards of educational quality assurance. Committed from the outset to the use of English as its medium of instruction, the university s educational philosophy emphasizes the mastery of English language skills; the development of critical thinking and evidence-based decision making; and the acquisition of knowledge and professional skills appropriate to university graduates who are preparing to enter the workforce in the context of a highly competitive emerging global economy. 2

In August 2005, Al Yamamah opened its College of Women. Three years later, in mid-december 2008, the college moved to its newly-constructed women s campus located separate from but adjacent to the existing men s facilities. Additional construction projects, planned and in-progress, include Al Yamamah Institute for Banking and Finance; the Saudi INTERLINK (SILC) Building, student residence halls, and housing facilities for faculty and staff. Al Yamamah University s College of Computing and Information Systems was established in 2008, offering a master s degree with four concentrations and is currently seeking membership in ABET. MISSION STATEMENT Al Yamamah University provides academic instruction and professional training of the highest standard that imparts to its students a life-long dedication to learning and self-development, while enabling the rising generation to shape a future marked by positive social and economic progress. VISION STATEMENT Al Yamamah University aspires to become a leading teaching and learning institution that also is dedicated to academic research and the effective preparation of future generations of professional leaders through its provision of creative and innovative educational systems, in cooperation with prestigious international partners. 3

GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE Consistent with its mission and vision, YU endeavors to prepare students for successful participation in our increasingly interconnected modern world. The university supports the development of vital cross cultural communications skills through its emphasis upon building a diverse and highly-qualified international team of faculty and staff from around the globe. YU continually seeks to incorporate world-wide best practices and innovative teaching materials into its curriculum and actively promotes opportunities for its students to benefit from international study and travel through its collaborations with partner institutions. From its earliest days, Al Yamamah University has benefitted from institutional relationships with some of the finest universities in the world who have shared their expertise in curriculum development, sent distinguished faculty members to teach here on-campus, and even provided opportunities for YU students to earn additional academic credentials both degrees and diplomas at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Currently, YU undergraduates may apply for dual bachelor degree programs offered in cooperation with the Grenoble Graduate School of Management in France or the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. 4

Graduate students in the YU EMBA program have the opportunity to study with visiting professors from a number of world-class institutions including Washington State University (USA) and Grenoble. Further, by completing the prescribed requirements, they may qualify for post graduate diplomas from Washington State University (WSU), or other universities all these in addition to their YU EMBA. YU EXECUTIVE MBA IN INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP Leadership in the commercial and industrial sectors of the global economy requires both an understanding of the fundamental theories of business administration and the ability to apply that knowledge to the solution of complex problems in a challenging environment subject to the forces of continual change. Today s interconnected; highly competitive global marketplace exerts demands upon business leaders that are virtually unprecedented in scope. Success depends upon the possession of highly-developed professional skills as well as a sophisticated understanding of the greatly expanded contextual framework of modern business enterprises. 5

The EMBA provides a clear path to career advancement for those who are ready to meet these challenges and does so in a way that allows students to pursue their educational goals with minimal disruption to their work or family responsibilities through classes held in the evenings and / or weekends. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES The YU EMBA in International Management & Leadership was created for early and midcareer professionals who would like to build upon their undergraduate education and early work experiences by enhancing their knowledge of modern management theory and developing the skills needed to address the range of issues facing leaders and managers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and throughout the Middle East. PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon completion of the program, students should demonstrate: 6 An understanding and appreciation for the nature of the emerging global business environment and the related impact of international economic, social and political developments Competent use of quantitative tools and methods for data analysis and decisionmaking Skill in the monitoring and analysis of financial management information contained in standard financial statements and reports The ability to evaluate complex business issues and to communicate both problems and proposed solutions through coherent written statements and oral presentations The ability to formulate and oversee the implementation of effective business strategies in an international context Expanded capacity for organizational and team leadership Personal commitment to continual improvement and self-directed learning

CHALLENGES AND EXPECTATIONS Individuals contemplating the YU EMBA should carefully consider the very real demands placed upon them by their participation in a rigorous post-graduate program. Following the completion of the foundation semester, students typically devote the evenings and / or weekends, for a total of twenty-one months, to intensive preparation and active participation in their classes. This entails a good deal of focused reading and study, with an emphasis upon case analysis. Students should also bear in mind the importance that their English language skills will exert upon their ability to participate meaningfully in class discussions and projects and will be well advised to take any necessary steps to improve prior to enrollment and over the duration of the program. Attendance at all classes is mandatory. Students may miss no more than one scheduled session and further absences will result in automatic withdrawal from the course. 7

8 EMBA

YU EMBA STRUCTURE The YU EMBA is offered throughout the year. While the program does not provide a thesis option, students may choose from one of several offered concentrations. Classes are typically held in the evenings or on weekends to enable working professionals to pursue their educational goals while remaining on the job. Although completing the program will inevitably entail some sacrifice of personal time, the curriculum has been designed to minimize disruptions to students ongoing career responsibilities and family life. Since all courses are presented in English and utilize the case model approach, successful completion of the program will require well-developed skills in both English language and critical thinking. Each course will entail a final examination and/ or research paper. Students may contact the teaching faculty for each course via beginning from two weeks prior to the beginning of class sessions up until two weeks after the completion of the lecture/ discussion. 9

COURSE DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS In order for class discussions and case analyses to provide the intended benefit, students are expected to attend the evening tutorial prior to the outset of formal class sessions and to read the primary text and related case studies in advance of the related course lectures. The success of each course depends upon students brining to class discussions the knowledge and insights they have gained from their preparation and work experiences. Students should be prepared to dedicate the time needed in advance of each session to enable their active participation. ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS TOEFL score of 550 is a minimum requirement for a candidate to demonstrate his English proficiency.
