The growing number of participants has forced us to move to another, more convenient, location, the Kinepolis complex in Northern Antwerp. The central theme chosen for this year is the Impact of Anesthesia on Outcome. Outcome in all its aspects remains an intense focus of interest, despite having been the issue of many studies and reviews over the past decades. At this time, the extensive (and rarely evidence-based) literature has only resulted in more questions than answers. With the expanding responsibilities of anesthesiologists beyond the immediate peri-operative period, and the impressive arsenal of techniques anesthesiologists can use, the present congress aims at fostering discussion whether anesthesiologists can play a role in improving short and long-term outcome in the surgical patient. The scientific committee has tried to assemble an interesting program, considering multiple aspects of outcome.
