Your company s contribution to the Engineering Doctorate programme will be 12,000 a year. Another unique feature of the Engineering Doctorate is the professional development element of the programme. Over the four years, around a quarter of the Research Engineer s time is spent at the University of Surrey, taking advanced courses in their academic field and interacting with our experts. This ensures a constant flow of cutting-edge ideas back into your organisation. Technical development is also a vital component of the Engineering Doctorate qualification, with students taking a core set of courses leading to Associate Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). Outstanding project management skills are developed through the highly soughtafter PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification. Meanwhile, business acumen is further strengthened through an integrated executive coaching programme, covering leadership, teamwork and communication management. The SEES Industrial Doctorate Centre The research supported by the SEES Industrial Doctorate Centre covers three key topic areas. Engineering for Sustainable Development analyses full product and process life cycles including environmental impact, commercial goals, social impacts and stakeholder interests. Systems Approaches considers supply chains for products and services in the widest sense, including life cycle assessment, carbon footprinting, water footprinting, and material flow accounting at regional and national level. Sustainable Energy and Low Carbon Systems is a key growth area which considers incorporating low-cost and lowcarbon power into existing energy supply chains, from resource extraction through fuel production and power generation, efficient energy utilisation, demand reduction and engagement of end-users. The result is a highly qualified doctoral graduate with valuable experience of how your organisation works and the skills to become an effective agent of change in the transition to a more sustainable, lower carbon economy.
