2 ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES OF MASSACHUSETTS Certificate Series Front-Line Supervisor Level 1 Effective supervision is crucial to the success of every enterprise. Good supervisors raise productivity, efficiency and employee morale. Moreover, confident, competent supervisors enhance your organization s ability to attract and retain the right people. Front-line leaders today must manage a broad set of responsibilities, as well as customer demands with sometimes conflicting expectations. AIM ensures that your supervisors are up to the task. Our focused, interactive classes provide participants with practical skills, strategies, and tools that can be applied in the workplace immediately. Supervisory Level 2: Management Every day, managers are required to make an array of decisions on matters affecting their department, impacting the overall business. Their ability to exercise sound judgment and leadership is made even more difficult by real-time demands from multiple directions. This series offers focused practice and feedback in a safe environment where these leaders can sharpen their skills, intuition and overall approach to their role. They will build their ability to influence, lead change and spark innovation while creating an atmosphere that attracts and retains the best talent. Certification Participants who complete at least eight modules within the same level will receive a certificate of completion as a means of demonstrating professional competence. Completion of HR Level 1 is not required to enroll in HR Level 2. Continuing Education Credits Many of the classes in these series have been approved for PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI). 3 Front-Line Supervisor Certificate Series Level 1 Bridgewater Burlington Fitchburg Holyoke* Marlborough This program is designed for new team and/or group leaders; front-line leaders who were promoted but never given leadership education; or supervisors seeking a leadership boost. The content is applicable across all industries. Participants will learn to maximize their team performance, engage and influence employees, manage their time and build confidence in their decisions. Participants will develop their own Individual Development Plan (IDP) to use after the series to continue their leadership evolution. The Emerging Role of the Front-Line Leader** Class 1 - MORN Explore the transition and differences between individual contributor and leadership accountabilities. Recognize your role as a leader and the balance between doing the work and leading the team. Discover what the people who work for you want and expect from your role. Begin creating your personal Individual Development Plan (IDP). Setting Priorities, Defining Objectives and Managing Time Class 2 - AFT Discover concepts for setting personal and team objectives and goals. Learn how to support goals by engaging in hands-on exercises and defining clear objectives. Evaluate approaches for prioritizing competing tasks. Gain essential time-management skills that can be used immediately on the job. Developing a Leadership Style Class 3 - MORN Explore different leadership styles and learn how, and when, to use them. Identify your own leadership style and how to capitalize on your strengths. Explore how differences in people may affect leadership approach. Learn about strategies for gaining increased influence in leading your team. Effective Communications Class 4 - AFT Explore components of an effective communication process to influence your team and decision makers. Understand the impact of listening and interpretation. Learn strategies for harnessing technology and social media in your workplace. Developing Your People Class 5 - MORN Inventory and categorize your team s current strengths and opportunities in relationship to future needs. Explore strategies for effectively delivering constructive feedback. Learn the latest concepts for developing, coaching, and supporting your employees. Leading a Multicultural Workforce Class 6 - AFT Learn best practices for leading employees of different backgrounds, ages, and skill sets. Increase knowledge about specific cultural differences in your workplace. Today s Legal Environment** Class 7 - MORN Review federal and state employment laws that impact your role as a front-line leader. Learn about critical employment practices, documentation essentials, and the discipline and discharge process. Explore strategies for reducing legal risk and potential legal challenges for you and your company. Resolving Conflicts and Solving Problems Class 8 - AFT Discover your personal style for dealing with conflict and how it might be made more effective. Understand the nature and cause of conflict in the workplace and methods for minimizing it. Develop strategies for dealing with difficult people while maintaining objectivity and emotional control. Build confidence in decision making skills. Building Your Team Through Working Together Class 9 - MORN Explore how working as a team can be more productive than working as an individual. Learn to lead team conflict toward constructive results and goals. Understand the strengths and weaknesses of teamwork in order to maximize positive outcomes. **Required for Certificate. Utilizing Your Front-Line Leadership Toolkit** Class 10 - AFT Review key concepts from the series. Clarify outstanding questions Work through a case study to support understanding of key concepts. Review recommendations and finalize your Individual Development Plan (IDP).

4 Supervisory Level 2: Management Bridgewater This program is designed for supervisors and managers with two or more years of experience or those that have completed our Supervisory Skills Level I program. It is also recommended for the more senior supervisor who seeks a refresher or in-depth knowledge of a specific topic area. Management Styles: Traits and Traps Class 1 - MORN Identify one s own social style, comfort zones, and how they relate to managing others. Learn strategies for working more effectively with different (sometimes difficult) personalities. Develop an action plan for increasing versatility and polishing one s approach to leading others. Everyday Ethics Class 6 - AFT Define values most often associated with ethical behavior. Identify different approaches to resolving complex ethical work issues Learn about potential conflicts of interest and how to manage them. Understand how to build organizational trust. Performance Appraisals: Painful or Productive? Class 2 - AFT Learn to write a review that gets your feedback across effectively and constructively. Become more comfortable in giving constructive feedback. Practice compiling important data and delivering performance feedback. Mentoring and Coaching Class 7 - MORN Understand potential generational and cultural impacts on employee development. Learn key steps in developing an effective mentor/protoge relationship. Practice concepts for conducting successful coaching sessions.
