The philanthropic arm of Grady Health System raises critical private support and awareness of Grady s essential role in the health of Atlanta and the state of Georgia. Founded in 1994, Grady Health Foundation raises several million dollars annually to support Grady Health System in providing world-class medical care to 600,000 individuals a year, with emphasis on underserved populations. The Foundation played a key role in the recent $300 million capital campaign that transformed Grady Health System. The will advance the Foundation s role as an essential, vibrant force for Grady s future. The newly created VP role has the mandate to partner with the President and Board to elevate, diversify and increase fundraising. As leader of the development team and operations and external relationship builder, the VP has a bold, compelling opportunity: to take Grady Health Foundation s development efforts to the next level.

2 Page 2 of 6 As Grady Health Foundation enters its third decade, the organization is challenged to strengthen its fundraising infrastructure and team, and to find innovative ways to engage the broader community in celebrating and supporting this essential institution. The new VP will be pivotal to this mission. THE ORGANIZATION Grady Health Foundation supports Grady s vision of becoming the leading public academic healthcare system in the U.S. A 501(c)3 nonprofit with assets of over $40 million and a staff of 9, the Foundation works with philanthropists, corporate and civic leaders to raise critical dollars and secure in-kind donations to support Georgia s largest safety net hospital, Grady Memorial, and the Grady Health System. With an engaged, active board, Grady Health Foundation raises annual, capital and unrestricted resources. During 2014, the Foundation exceeded its $6 million annual goal. Additionally, the Marcus Foundation awarded Grady Health System $30 million for expansion of the Emergency Department and the Marcus Stroke and Neuroscience Center. Through foundation, corporate and major gifts, and an inspiring annual White Coat Gala, the Foundation currently has a growing donor base of Looking ahead, the Foundation aspires to broaden and diversify the donor base and sources of support, and to solidify a growing, sustainable funding model. Plans include introducing new vehicles to engage and involve more people, including a Grady Ambassador Force and physician lecture series. In addition to ongoing fundraising initiatives, the Foundation engages the public through initiatives such as Shop to Give, Adopt-a-Department and the Grady license plate. 3 Page 3 of 6 Grady Heath System was founded in 1892 to provide quality healthcare for the community s vulnerable populations. Today, Grady is a state-ofthe-art 953-bed hospital and the largest public health system in Georgia. The hospital provides care and critical services to over 600,000 patients a year ,000 through the Emergency Department. Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine are Grady partners, and their physicians exclusively staff Grady Health System. Most Atlanta residents know Grady for its trauma and emergency services. Grady houses the region s premier Level 1 Trauma Center and has full trauma surgical teams available on site at all times. Less well known is Grady s role as the state s leading teaching hospital and provider of world-class acute care. One of every four doctors practicing in Georgia trained at Grady. Grady Health System provides top-notch care in burn, stroke, cardiology, cancer and neonatal intensive care. Grady houses Georgia s only Poison Control Center and the Georgia Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center. THE RESPONSIBILITIES The leadership opportunity for the Vice President is bold and compelling: to take Grady Health Foundation s development efforts to the next level. The new VP will bring a record of fundraising success in relevant contexts, and expertise across the development spectrum. The VP will have authentic passion for Grady s mission and the communities it serves. Reporting to the President, the VP will be instrumental in enhancing fundraising capacity and the level of support and engagement on behalf of Grady Health System. Specifically, the will:

4 Page 4 of 6 1. Lead, manage and advance the Foundation s development capacity. The will be an experienced, innovative and strategic professional with proven fundraising results and knowledge of best practices. The VP will be talented both as a frontline fundraiser and as a manager of staff and operations. The VP will develop fundraising strategies, comprehensive plans and innovative approaches that achieve measurable, sustainable resource growth over time. 2. Develop the fundraising infrastructure. The VP will have knowledge and experience in all operational aspects of development. She or he will design and put in place best-practice infrastructure to support a successful, sustainable development operation. The VP will ensure that the Grady Health Foundation s development infrastructure is sound and optimized everything from databases, online presence, prospect research and moves management to stewardship and development of strong, lasting relationships. 3. Broaden, diversify and grow support. The VP will be on fire about delivering resources to Grady Health System s essential work. Working closely with the President and Board members, the VP will build relationships and apply strategic fundraising approaches that enhance philanthropic support. The VP will have expertise across the fundraising spectrum, including annual and capital campaigns, foundation and corporate partnerships, grant writing, major and planned giving. The VP will be expert at growing and strengthening current relationships, and at engaging new individuals and partners of all kinds. 4. Lead and inspire staff and partners across the Grady organization. The will be a collaborative, inclusive leader who hires, mentors and develops outstanding staff and works easily and effectively across the Foundation and Grady Health System. 5. Win friends and supporters for Grady s mission. The Vice President will be uncommonly good at communicating the vision, mission and impact of the Foundation in ways that compel engagement and support. In a wide variety of contexts, the VP will deliver clear and persuasive messages and rationale for supporting Grady Health System. Through participation with donors and the broader community, the VP will help enlarge Grady s circle of supporters and resources to support the mission.
