1 Classroom Rules and Procedures When entering the room, pick up your calculator, sharpen your pencil, and begin your daily Falcon Focus bellwork immediately. All pencils should be sharpened, if necessary before the tardy bell rings. You may NOT leave to go to the restroom after the tardy bell rings. You may go to the restroom prior to the tardy bell ringing. However if you arrive after the bell has rung you are therefore tardy. Students are not allowed to hang around the door or at a neighbor s desk. Falcon Focus Bellwork Bell work is to be done at the beginning of the class. Bellwork sheets will be on one sheet on paper and is to be kept in a 3 prong folder. Bell work will be checked weekly for a grade. Students will be given a quiz on falcon focus. All bell work should be dated and labeled. You are responsible for completing bell work during your absence. You may get it from a classmate. You MUST show work! Announcements and Pledge There will be no talking during ANY announcements or during the pledge or moment of silence. There is no movement or talking during the moment of silence or the pledge. Restroom All students will be given restroom passes. You must keep up with your restroom passes. No EXTRA passes will be given if lost. Any unused pass may be used at the end of the 9 weeks for bonus points added to your test or quiz average. You many not leave the room within the first 10 minutes of class or during the last 10 minutes of class, or during my lecture. Paper Header and Turning in Work All work MUST contain a paper header. The paper header will be on the right side of the paper that is to include, your name, the date, period, title of the assignment. All work must be turned in before leaving the class. Any work not turned in before leaving will not be graded and students will be given a zero.

2 Make-Up work, Absences, FINAO Students are responsible for all work missed during their absence. They must meet with their teacher before school or after school to arrange a time to make-up work. Students will be given 5 days from the day they return to make-up work missed during an extended absence. Students who missed the day of the test or quiz will take it the next day upon their return. However, students can make up a test or quiz ONLY after school during a tutorial session. They have 5 days from the day the assignment is returned to make-up the assignment. Homework Homework is an essential component of learning and mastering concepts. Homework is assigned at the discretion of the teacher and will be checked the next class period. You will receive a 100 if all work is completed. You must complete all problems to receive full credit. Otherwise, your score is based on the number of problems completed divided by the total. All homework must be completed on loose leaf paper and kept in a 3 ring binder. Electronics Students are not allowed to use electronic devices in class. All electronic devices MUST NOT be visible or heard at any time. All electronic devices seen and/or heard will be confiscated and turned in to the office. First time students will receive a verbal warning. Second time, automatic confiscation. Academic Dishonesty Cheating will not be tolerated. Copying work, looking at another person s test/quiz paper, asking for help during a test or quiz are all forms of cheating. Consequences for academic dishonesty include a zero on the assignment, notification of your parent/guardian, and documentation in your student file. Repeat offenders will be referred to the office for disciplinary action.

3 Course Description Darlington High School Algebra I Course Syllabus The purpose of the Algebra I Curriculum is to increase student awareness of the importance of mathematics in the modern world. The students will become more confident of their ability to work mathematical problems. They will learn how to think systematically and use the precise logic required for mathematical problem solving. This course builds on the students understanding of basic mathematics in the study of algebraic skills and problem solving. Students will learn to express real world problems in algebraic sentences in order to find solutions. Successful completion of the course is an indispensable step in preparations for geometry, more advance algebra, trigonometry and advanced mathematics. This course is schedule for 36 weeks of student in which the students will be exposed to the above concepts in various ways. We will discuss the concepts in detail during class discussions. Flipcharts and PowerPoint s will be used to reinforce concepts. Students will be given able opportunities to practice solving problems through in-class assignments as well as through homework assignments. Required Course Materials 3 ringer binder 1-1/2 inches Dividers labeled ( homework, notes, classwork, vocabulary) Pencils mechanical preferred are necessary for math. All work that is to be turned in MUST be completed in PENCIL. No work that is to be turned in will be accepted in ink of any kind. Grading Tests 40% Quizzes 30% Bellwork 10% Homework 10% Classwork 10% EOC 20% final grade

4 Darlington High School Algebra II Honors Course Syllabus Course Description: A firm foundation in algebra is necessary for success in college-level mathematics courses. Honors Algebra 2 is designed to help students develop their proficiency in algebra, and so strengthen their understanding of the underlying concepts. Basic concepts of algebra are reviewed in the course. Students taking this course should have completed Honors Algebra 1 with a grade of 85 or higher. The course takes every opportunity to show how algebra is a modern modeling language for real-life problems. Examples, exercises, and group activities many using real data provide a real-life context to help students grasp mathematical concepts. Graphing technology is utilized in the course to enhance student understanding. Course objectives: Students who successfully complete Algebra 2 honors with a passing grade of 70% or higher will have demonstrated the abilities, concepts, knowledge, and skills required to accomplish the following course objectives- 1. the identification of appropriate domains and ranges of functions 2. the collection and organization of data, recording results, and graphical representations 3. the use of symbolic reasoning to represent algebraic situations 4. the expansion of functions for mathematical modeling to develop a versatile and powerful means for analyzing and describing their world 5. the understanding of properties that govern the use of symbols in expressions, equations, and inequalities Recommended Prerequisites: Students should successfully complete Algebra 1 Honors. Materials Needed: 1. 3-ring binder and loose-leaf paper 2. pencils NOT pens 3. graph paper 4. graphing calculator (TI-83+, TI-84, or TI-Inspire)

5 Assessment/Calculation of Grades: Student progress is assessed during each nine-week period over the semester. A student s progress is reported as a grade based on the South Carolina grade reporting system: 93 to 100% = A 85 to 92% = B 77 to 84% = C 70 to 76% = D 0 to 69% = F A student must earn a minimum grade of 70% in order to receive credit for this course. Student progress is cumulatively assessed each nine weeks in the following areas: Tests 40% Quizzes 30% Bellwork 10% Homework 10% Classwork 10% EOC 20% final grade Quizzes and unit tests will be given for each unit. All unit tests will be announced at a minimum of two days before they are given. More detail concerning grading policies will be discussed in class. If the student was in attendance for all quizzes, the lowest quiz grade will be dropped each marking period. If a student is not in attendance for all quizzes, the missed quiz will be dropped per marking period. More detail concerning grading policies will be discussed in class. Homework: Daily assignments will be given and checked at the beginning of the next class. Students are expected to show work to receive credit. Homework grades will be based on completion and partial credit may be assigned based on teacher discretion. Major Assessments: At least 3 major assessments will be given each nine weeks. Students will be allowed to retake one test each nine weeks. Each student will have the opportunity to complete a test re-take for one major assessment per quarter not to include a semester or final exam. The highest grade the student will receive is a 70to be entered into the grade book. Though the concepts are the same, re-takes should be a different test than the original. On the day the graded major assessment is returned to the class, students must decide if he/she will complete a test re-take for that assessment. Students must attend a minimum of one tutoring session to be eligible for the re-take.

6 Tutoring: Tutoring is available every Monday Afternoon 3:20-4:00. Make-Up Policy: Any missed work must be made up within 5 school days. If a test has been announced prior to the student s absence, the student should be prepared to take the test on the first day s/he returns. It is the responsibility of the student, not the teacher, to make necessary arrangements for make-up work. Classroom Expectations 1. Come to class prepared. (paper, pencil, book, and homework) 2. Be seated and ready to work when the tardy bell rings. 3. Be respectful of yourself and others. 4. Refrain from eating, drinking, and chewing gum in the classroom. (Bottled water is acceptable) 5.
