1 Web Design Syllabus Mr. Calabrese Room Phone: x5550 Course Description/Objectives: Students will be instructed on web design applications on a PC platform. The various software programs and digital applications students will be exposed to include Adobe Creative Suite 6, HTML, and Google Apps. Students will learn to design and publish original websites for personal use and for businesses. Students will leave the course with a strong foundation in web design which will enable them to independently create websites. Such a foundation will enhance their prospects for pursuing higher education in graphic design and web design and for becoming professionals in the field.

2 Class Grading Visual Basic Programming Mr. Calabrese Two - 9 Week Grades are 80% of overall course grade; divided into three categories. ExamView Lesson Test Unit Projects Notebook Checks LEVEL I 70% weight 1 point for each correct answer Points will be assigned differently for each project Notebook checks will be announced and unannounced LEVEL II 20% weight END OF CHAPTER ACTIVITIES (Individual Work Must be completed in class) Quizzes Small Projects Chapter Questions 1 point for each correct answer Points will be assigned differently for each project 1 point for each correct answer LEVEL III 10% weight CRITICAL THINKING EXERCISES (Group & Individual Work) Vocabulary Will be graded based on pass/fail of each section. 5 points each Critical Thinking Questions 1 point for each questions answered correctly (Must be answered individually) Study Time 0% Chapter Reading, Reviewing Work Papers, etc. SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT 20% of Overall Course Grade Summative Assessment Written Final will consist of terminology from lessons instructed, one content essay and two open ended essays.

3 Materials Needed: Writing utensil (pen or pencil) Binder Gmail account (free) Positive Attitude Visual Basic Programming Policies and Procedures Policies: 1. Come to class to learn. Bring the right attitude every day. 2. Bring required materials everyday unless you are otherwise directed. This includes a writing utensil; I will not provide one for you. If you are in dire need of a pen or pencil, you must present collateral to borrow one from me. 3. Come to class on time. If you are late you will be marked as tardy. If you are tardy THREE times or more, you will be referred to the office. Passes must be provided for excused tardiness or early dismissal. 4. Raise your hand with questions during lecture. Do not be afraid to ask questions. There are no stupid questions in this room. Be respectful to others questions, we are all here to learn. 5. Cell phones are a great way to communicate OUTSIDE OF MY CLASSROOM. As per school rules, any cell phone visible in my classroom will be confiscated and taken to the office. 6. Treat computer equipment as if it were your own. Computers work much better without sticky, crumb-filled keys. Food and drink should be left outside of the classroom, unless an announced special occasion. 7. Remain in assigned seat at all times. Unless you are retrieving material from the printer, turning in an assignment, throwing away paper, or using equipment/supplies from the resource areas provided, you should be in your ASSIGNED seat. And yes this also means until the bell rings. DO NOT LINE UP AT THE DOOR. 8. Do NOT abuse the hall pass. It is the requirement of the school that each student complete the hall pass log prior to leaving the classroom. Your name, destination and time must be written legibly. I will notice if you ask for the pass at the same time every day. The teacher has the right to limit hall pass issuance and will refer all students who abuse the hall pass privilege for discipline. You may use the hall pass a maximum of TWO times per week. 9. Use academic integrity. You will be referred for cheating and receive a zero on that specific assignment. Cheating will only hurt your future success. If you need help, ask me, not your neighbor. 10. ALWAYS be respectful to me and your classmates.

4 Absentee Policy If a student is excused from class for a school activity, it is his/her responsibility to get the assignment in advance and have it completed when he/she comes to class the next time. If a test is missed, it must be made up in a timely manner (no more than 5 days after the test was given.) If a student goes on a school approved vacation or trip or has out of school suspension, work is due on the day back and any missed quizzes or tests must be made up by the third day back. It is the student s responsibility to get help if they should have problems with the assignment. It is not acceptable to come back from a field trip with nothing done and say that he/she doesn t understand. Some attempt must be made at the work. If a student is excused from class to go on a field trip, to a conference, to help out with a school activity, etc. he/she must see me before class to obtain the class work and assignment. It is due the next time the student is in class. Some attempt must be made at the work. When absent from school with an excused absence, you are allowed one day more than the number or school days you were absent to complete any missed homework, quizzes, or tests. For example, if your absence last two days, you have three days to complete the homework, to learn the concepts and to make up any quizzes and test. Unless tests and quizzes are made up within the prescribed time frame or other arrangements are made, the tests or quizzes will be recorded as a zero. ASSESSMENT OF CONCEPT LEARNING: Assignment Grading- Assignments are to be handed in to the teacher in the assigned class bin. Once assignments are graded and returned by the teacher they should be filed in the student s resource folder or three-ring notebook. TIME MANAGEMENT: Wasting time talking, personal note writing, hanging out, or completing work for another class will negatively affect your grade. Any form of IM, Facebook, and other social networking sites are prohibited and student(s) involved will be written up. Use or misuse of class time is your responsibility. The media center is equipped with all software necessary to complete assignments, so the student may stay Monday through Thursday after school from 2:45 to 5:15 PM. One set of textbooks will be located in the media center for students use. RESOURCES - Your neighbor is not a resource. Printed PowerPoint handouts, the software programs itself, and study guides can all be used as resources. CHEATING POLICY Any student found copying another student s work will receive a zero for the assignment. A student caught cheating on a quiz or test will receive a zero grade for the evaluation and will not be permitted to retake the test.

Month 4: Organizing Site Content Designing for Multiple Browsers and Mobile Devices Liquid Layouts Adding Widgets Publishing Websites Understanding FTPs. Month 5: Final Project: a website project incorporating all skills learned throughout the course.
