It also offers students the scaffolds and tools they need to interact with content, while the teacher have access to real-time data and reports to monitor students progress and achievement. Textbook Used: N/A Supplies: 1 binder with loose leaf paper and dividers blue or black ink pens, pencil, and highlighter
2 Computer Lab Rules: 1. Wear headphones while listening to instructional videos 2. All food and drinks (including candy and gum) should be consumed outside of the computer lab 3. Computers should be used for school work only; all other usage could be subject to disciplinary action 4. Raise your hand when you are ready for a quiz, test, or help 5. Be respectful of others time and property 6. STAY on task (in order to be successful)
3 Guidelines The O-Lab program is designed to allow students an opportunity to earn high school credit for original credit courses and courses they have not successfully completed in the past. The program is intended to help students by delivering educational services in a flexible, time-efficient manner in order to help them succeed academically and ultimately graduate. Credit Recovery Guidelines 1. Students may earn a maximum of eight credits through the O-Lab program for their entire high school career (EHDE-Local). O-Lab can include coursework taken through Edgenuity (during the school day and/or outside of school day), Texas Virtual School Network, the University of Texas or Texas Tech University (outside of school day). 2. Students can earn up to two credits in one subject area (EHDE-Local). 3. Students may only take up to two O-Lab program courses at a time (EHDE-Local). 4. Only high school students may earn credit toward graduation. No student may use the O-Lab program for course credit until they have completed the first semester of their freshman year. Exceptions may include district-approved pilot programs. 5. Students using the O-Lab program will receive numeric grades which will be reported on their transcript. These grades will be included in their grade-point average calculation and used to compute rank in class. All course grades, passing or failing, will be included on the transcript. 6. Credit recovery students will have a prescriptive learning path based on the results of a diagnostic test. 7. The O-Lab program may impact NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/UIL eligibility. 8. Grade Calculations: Student grades are weighted and averaged according to the following categories: Notes Assignments/Labs Quizzes Tests Exam 9. If the student is using the O-Lab program as a REMOTE user, the student must achieve a 65% on the Final exam in order to receive credit for the course. If the student achieves
4 the 65%, the coursework will count for 85% and the Final Exam will still count for 15% of the grade. 10. If the student is a combination school setting/remote user or completes all parts of the O- Lab program course in a school setting, then the revised procedures for the Final Exam will be implemented. Students should follow campus sign-in procedures to document participation in the school setting. o The student will NOT have to achieve a 65% on the FINAL EXAM. The scores will be entered in the spreadsheet and the coursework will count for 85% and the Final Exam will count for 15%. The spreadsheet will calculate the percentage for you. 11. Final Exams must be taken on site and proctored by a teacher. 12. Notes will NOT be allowed on the Final Exam. Notes may be used only on the Assignments and Quizzes. 13. Students who fail a course in the O-Lab program may retake the course again in the next school term. Each time a course grade is earned, it will be included on the student s transcript. 14. Students may not begin credit recovery in the same semester as a course in which they are currently enrolled. For example, a student may not use this program to gain credit for the first semester of Algebra I if they are currently enrolled in the first semester of Algebra I. They must complete an entire semester in the classroom before using this program to recover credit. 15. Seniors utilizing O-Lab for credit recovery in the spring semester must complete the course by May 15 in order to graduate with their class. No enrollment of students after April 1 for O- Lab courses will be allowed. 16. Excluding seniors, all credit recovery students must complete each semester of a course by nine weeks from the enrollment date. 17. Students may access the O-Lab program from home. 18. Student must achieve a score of 70% or above in order to proceed to the next lesson. If a student fails a quiz, that student will automatically be looped back a limited number of times to retake the lesson and quiz. 19. Students should observe the start and end date scheduled at the time of application for the O- Lab program coursework. Completion of coursework and final exam before the scheduled end date is acceptable provided the student has successfully completed a course learning path. Original Credit Guidelines 1. Original credit students must complete their entire Learning Path/course. 2. Criteria for Original Credit
5 Student is a transfer student from another country, district, or school including private or homeschool Student has failed a number of required courses and, as a result, must take original credit courses to graduate with cohort Senior who is failing semester B after two weeks into Term 4. After two weeks of Term 4, no student will be allowed to enroll in a course for original credit Course is not offered at student s home campus Assignment Repair Guidelines 1. All students including Pre AP and AP students are eligible for the O-Lab program Assignment Repair plan. 2. Criteria for Assignment Repair: Students in danger of not passing during progress reporting and/or nine weeks due to failed assignments Students who have missing assignments due to late enrollment, illness, or extenuating circumstance Classroom teacher must approve use of assignment repair 3. The goal of the O-Lab program assignment repair is to prevent students from failing a term. Once a grade is recorded on the report card, no grades will be changed as a result of Assignment Repair. ACADEMIC HONESTY STATEMENT (to be signed by student) Plagiarism is failing to cite quotations and taking credit for ideas that are not yours. Do not download information from the internet or use information directly from any other sources without proper citation of references. Do your own work. I understand that any act of academic dishonesty will result in immediate withdrawal from the O-Lab program. Student name: Student ID: O-Lab Program Course Student Signature: Date:

7 Contract The following are procedures, minimum requirements, and rules for students enrolled in O-Labs. Students may access the district s online provider program from school or home; however, students will not be allowed to take the final exam from home. Each folder has several lessons followed by a quiz to test student comprehension and knowledge of the unit. Note-taking is required as students progress through each unit. Students are required to keep a notebook and be able to offer proof of class notes. These notes are essential to your success in the course. Students are expected to write their own notes, rather than sharing with other students. The student must achieve a score of 70% or above on an activity or lesson in order to proceed to the next lesson. If a quiz grade is below 70%, the Edgenuity program is set up to send students back over assignments. A student will automatically repeat the lesson associated with quizzes. If the student is using Edgenuity as a REMOTE user, the student must still achieve a 65% on the Final exam in order to receive credit for the course. If the student achieves the 65%, the coursework will still count for 85% and the Final Exam will still count for 15% of the grade. The spreadsheet will calculate the percentage for you. If the student is a combination school setting/remote user or completes all parts of the Edgenuity course in a school setting, then the revised procedures for the Final Exam will be implemented. o The student will NOT have to achieve a 65% on the FINAL EXAM. The scores will be entered in the spreadsheet and the coursework will count for 85% and the Final Exam will count for 15%. The spreadsheet will calculate the percentage for you. Listening to music, surfing the Internet, or playing games on the computer is not allowed in the computer lab. Internet access is required, however, students are only to access the site required for completing their daily work. Students must stay on the Edgenuity site. Under no circumstances are students to visit any unauthorized websites. Failure to comply with this and other lab policies will result in the following consequences: 1 st Offense: The student will receive a discipline referral and the parent(s) will be contacted. 2 nd Offense: The student will be withdrawn from computer lab and must complete the program from home. No food or drinks will be allowed in the computer lab other than water in original containers. Each student will be assigned to a computer for his or her use throughout the entire course. The instructor will change students seating if he or she feels students can be more productive in another seat. Students will follow the FBISD s Student Acceptable Use Policy regarding computer, monitor, mouse, keyboard, software programs, downloads, etc.
