2 Discussin and Details Discuss the Attentin Grabber Cartn and hw this applies t gal setting where will yu be in 15 years? Ask students t stand up. Have thse sit dwn wh have ever wanted t achieve smething. Select ne persn seated and ask fr their example. Fr thse still standing, ask if they have ever set a gal fr themselves; if s, have them sit. Again, select smene t share his/her gal. Share with thse left standing that they will benefit a great deal frm this sessin. Nw discuss with students what the meaning f GOALS means t them. Share the difference between shrt term and lng term gals (Ex. Shrt term: Help parent with dishes every night, study mre each day. Lng term: Lse weight ver the next mnth, make the baseball team in the Spring) Explain that it s imprtant fr peple f every age t have gals, especially when in yur schl years. It s hard t accmplish and achieve things withut gals. Different types f gals: sprts, academic, rganizatinal, health, character building. List n the bard... S M A R T... and have students guess what the letters stand fr. Share the meaning f S.M.A.R.T. by listing the wrds assciated with each letter: SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, REALISTIC, TIMELY Put the S.M.A.R.T Gals (INSERT 5 A) n the bard. Nw share what each letter means with examples: SPECIFIC Must be well defined. Clear t anyne wh reads it. MEASURABLE Knw WHAT has t be achieved. Set cncrete criteria. ACHIEVABLE Actin riented. What is actually attainable. REALISTIC It is d able. Nt necessarily easy, but CAN BE accmplished. TIMELY Within a time frame, include specific target dates, milestnes, deadlines Hand ut the Gal sheets (INSERT 5 B) and piece f paper and pencil fr each student and turn n the Online YuTube vide yu have chsen ne r bth Explain that a gd way t figure ut the gals yu wish t accmplish is t lk at yur life and what yu WANT.

3 Have students write dwn sme things they WANT persnally and WANT educatinally things that will imprve their lives persnally and at schl. Only give them a minute limit it t 2 3 gals fr persnal and 2 3 gals fr schl. EXAMPLES: T learn t play the pian T make the baseball team T imprve my grade in Science class T start a babysitting business Nw have the students select their tp WANT in each categry and circle it. Explain t the students that they will nw write ut S.M.A.R.T. gals using their tp tw WANTS (ne persnal and ne educatinal) using the Gal sheets (INSERT 5 B) yu ve given them. Share hw GOALS ARE NOT WISHES; there is pwer in taking a WANT TO and changing it t an I WILL. Put cmpleted Gal example (INSERT 5 C) n the bard. Nw have students cmplete the Gal sheet (INSERT 5 B) setting ne persnal gal and ne schl gal. Have students turn this sheet in fr a grade. Then return t them fr their Frever Files.
