1 KENYA ELECTRICITY TRANSMISSION COMPANY LIMITED CAREER OPPORTUNITIES The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Ltd, a state corporation wholly owned by the Government is currently constructing a total of over 2000km of electricity transmission lines of 500kV, 400kV, 220kV and 132kV and the associated substations. Job Title: Senior Manager, Power Management (1Post) Power System Operation and Management KETRACO/5/1C/40/19-B Job Grade: MG 4 To coordinate effective and efficient power management. Bachelor s Degree in Electrical Engineering Registration with ERB and MIEK At least 12 years relevant experience Projects management skills Good organizational and planning skills a) Coordinating with engineers to provide information such as clearances; switching orders or distribution process changes; b) Ensuring timely response to emergencies, such as transmission line failures, and route current around affected areas; c) Tracking conditions that could affect power needs, such as changes in the weather, and adjusting equipment to meet any anticipated changes; d) Manipulating controls to adjust or activate power distribution equipment or machines; e) Directing personnel engaged in controlling or operating transmission equipment; and
2 f) Overseeing the regulation of the flow of power between substations. 2. Job Title: Senior Manager, Operations and Maintenance (1Post) Powers System Operation and Management KETRACO/5/1C/40/18-B Job Grade: MG 4 To ensure continuous improvement and maintenance of transmission systems to ensure minimum service provision interruptions in line with approved company operating policies and strategies. Bachelor s Degree in Electrical Engineering Registered with ERB and MIEK At least 12 years relevant experience Projects management skills Ability to plan and engineer conflicting requirements and challenging deadlines a) Implementing policies and programmes on electricity transmission system operations and maintenance; b) Co-ordinating operations and maintenance of electricity transmission system to ensure minimum power interruptions; c) Providing technical leadership and guidance to the regions on matters pertaining to system operations and maintenance as necessary; d) Ensuring company standards and procedures on system operations and maintenance and safety are adhered to; and e) Investigating major system breakdowns and weaknesses and recommending necessary interventions and reinforcements. 3. Job Title: Chief Engineer, Power System Studies and Planning (1Post) Power System Planning and Development KETRACO/5/1C/40/13-B Job Grade: MG 5A
3 Overall responsibility: To provide engineering expertise for power system studies, planning, design and establishing standards for design and construction materials. Bachelor s Degree in Electrical Engineering Registered Engineer with ERB and MIEK At least 10 years relevant experience in power system planning and project planning Knowledge of electrical power fundamentals including load flow studies Project scheduling and management skills a) Preparing proposals for transmission line studies including preliminary route selection, preliminary environment loadings, and feasibility level estimates, recommendation of conductors and structural types, conceptual design criteria; b) Providing support in preliminary assessment, feasibility and provision of details in execution phases; c) Developing guidelines for the system design by the application of sound engineering and economic principles; d) Providing technical and supervisory direction to prioritize and schedule transmission and substation projects; e) Conducting research of environmental conditions and selection of environment loadings; and f) Establishing standards for design, material and operations in place. 4. Job Title: Manager, Commercial Services (1Post) Corporate Services Division KETRACO/5/1C/40/32-B Job Grade: MG 5A To offer strategic leadership in the identification, development, evaluation and implementation of strategies and policies that will build KETRACO s commercial business income stream. Bachelor s degree in international Business or any other related field

Job Title: Chief Engineer, Communications (1Post) ICT KETRACO/5/1C/40/27-B Job Grade: MG 5A To be in charge of the power system communication, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Energy Management System (EMS), and commercial utilization of Fibre Optic cables. Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Telecommunications option) Registered with ERB and MIEK At least 10 Years relevant experience
5 The candidate should have thorough knowledge of fiber optic communication, understanding splicing, single mode and multimode fibers, measurement methods including remote OTDR etc a) Participating and contributing in development of departmental plans, policies and objectives; b) Participating in implementation of telecommunications plans in accordance with the company telecommunications needs; c) Implementing strategies on power system communication and voice communication; d) Participating in developing and implementing contingency plans to guarantee systems operations during emergency situations and ensuring compliance with statutory and other regulatory requirements; e) Implementing preventive and maintenance programs and schedules on telecommunications; f) Formulating techniques and procedures for the efficient operation of power systems telecommunication; g) Conducting continuous development of telecommunications systems in consideration of changing environment; h) Participating in Implementing of programs for safeguarding integrity of power and voice communication systems; i) Monitoring the operation of the telecommunication systems in the company to effectively support business operations; j) Implementing new technological developments to enhance telecommunication systems efficiency; k) Managing implementation of information technology and telecommunications projects and ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements; l) Monitoring technological trends and recommending initiatives to safeguard the interest of the Company; and m) Participating in preparation of specifications for various telecommunication equipment and systems. 6. Job Title: Manager, Management Accounts (1Post) Finance and Accounts KETRACO/5/1C/40/20-B Job Grade: MG 5A To provide prudent management of financial resources through effective budgetary, cost, forecasting and internal controls.
6 Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent from a recognized University CPA (K) or equivalent At least 10 years relevant experience Good organizational and planning skills High level analytical skills a) Implementing budgetary control for the organization; b) Carrying out variance analysis and advising management; c) Overseeing the production of timely and accurate management reports; d) Designing and implementing effective management and accounting system of revenue collection; e) Identifying, measuring, analysing and interpreting information to facilitate decision making; f) Maintaining effective budgetary controls, cost accounting and internal control systems and procedures; g) Preparing cash flow forecasts and other finance forecast statements; and h) Carrying out operational performance analysis; and i) Providing accurate and timely management accounting reports and business performance data. 7. 7 a) Assessing and defining new electrical job requirements and appropriate locations; b) Collecting and collating data on the existing electrical system in relation to the project, i.e. Sub-station, capacity and their loading; c) Preparing and implementing plans pertaining to sub-station electrical layout/arrangement for a new/existing Sub-station; d) Preparing drawings for electrical installations in Sub-stations, High Voltage, medium voltage and low voltage lines; e) Preparing description of electrical project works, material schedules and cost estimates as per approved procedures; f) Performing grounding, lighting protection and lighting system calculations in accordance with applicable industry and internal standards and specifications; and g) Providing engineering support during constructions, testing and commissioning. 8. Job Title: Manager, Administration (1Post) Human Capital and Administration KETRACO/5/1C/40/23-B Job Grade: MG 5B To ensure effective utilization and availability of facilities and provision of asset management services as per the approved policies and procedures. Job Title: Internal Auditor-Finance and Operational Audits (1Post) Internal Audit KETRACO/5/1C/40/33-B Job Grade: MG 6 To provide assurance that the Company s resources are prudently utilized and operational procedures followed. Bachelor s degree in Commerce or equivalent CPA (K) or equivalent CISA CIA will be an added advantage At least 8 years relevant experience High level analytical skills a) Supervise and coordinate activities of audit assignments; b) Conduct risk assessment and prepare risk matrix/register; c) Participating in the development of risk based audit plans, programme and schedules; d) Carrying out audit tests and prepares non-conformity forms and produces draft report for presentation to Management and Audit Committee of the Board; e) Preparing and organizing audit working papers; f) Carrying out a review of accounting, financial and budgetary systems; g) Supervising, appraising staff and identifying their training and development needs; and h) Preparing timely reports.

Job Title: Senior Supply Chain Officer (2Posts) Supply Chain Management KETRACO/5/1C/40/34-B Job Grade: MG 6 To ensure timely and efficient procurement of goods and services, management of stores and administration of contracts. Bachelor s degree in Supply Chain Management Diploma in Supply Chain Management At least 8 relevant experience years Good Communications, problem solving & negotiation skills. Job Title: Senior Insurance Officer (1Post) Legal Services KETRACO/5/1C/40/26-B Job Grade: MG 6 To ensure optimum and cost-effective risk and insurance coverage for company assets and legal liabilities arising out of the company s operations. Bachelor s Degree Commerce or in any social science (Insurance Option)
10 Diploma, Chartered Insurance Institute Registered Member, Chartered Insurance Institute Registered Member, Insurance Institute of Kenya At least 8 years relevant experience Good leadership, Communications, problem solving & negotiation skills a) Implementing strategies, policies, and standards pertaining to insurance services; b) Providing insurance cover for assets, human resources and potential legal liabilities of the company; c) Participating in drawing of insurance contracts with relevant insurance companies; d) Negotiating insurance disputes with customers and other parties with a view to settling them out of court; e) Facilitating settlements of insurance claims through insurance brokers; f) Participating in the procurement of insurance services for the company; and g) Preparing and updating Corporate Insurance Manual. 12. Job Title: Tax Accountant (1Post) Finance and Accounts KETRACO/5/1C/40/21-B Job Grade: MG 6 To prepare timely, reliable and accurate statutory accounting records and ensuring that the Company complies with periodic tax payment, information reporting, and other tax authority requirements. Bachelor of Commerce Accounting / Finance CPA K or equivalent At least 8 years relevant experience a) Examining accounts and records and computing taxes owed according to prescribed rates, laws and regulations; b) Ensuring preparation of tax returns of individuals and for the organization; c) Advising management regarding effects of business activities on taxes and strategies for minimizing tax liability;
11 d) Ensuring that the services complies with periodic tax payment, information reporting, and other taxes authority requirements; e) Devising and installing tax record systems; f) Reviewing financial records to determine tax liability; g) Facilitating appeals for exemptions or waiver in case of tax penalties and interest charged by the tax collecting authority; h) Ensuring NHIF, NSSF, HELB and other statutory funds are promptly paid; i) Maintaining accurate statutory accounting records; j) Liaising with human resources payroll section to ensure prompt preparation of statutory payment schedules; and k) Liaising with Kenya Revenue Authority for new development on taxes matters. 13. Job Title: Transmission Engineer, Civil (1Post) Power System Planning and Development KETRACO/5/1C/40/16-B Job Grade: MG 6 Overall responsibility: To participate in design of an efficient, reliable and safe power transmission system as per approved procedures, policy and standards with specific attention to transmission line structures and civil works. Bachelor degree in civil and structural engineering Registered Engineer with ERB and MIEK At least 8 relevant years working experience Project Management skills a) Leading teams of design engineers in undertaking design of OHL; b) Participating in review and approval of civil related drawings and project specifications; c) Assessing and defining new civil design job requirements and appropriate locations; and d) Preparing bids for OHL construction jobs to be completed by contractors.

Job Title: Senior Economist (1Post) Corporate Planning KETRACO/5/1C/40/31-B Job Grade: MG 6 To research, develop, implement and monitor long, medium term and short term corporate plans and planning systems. Bachelor s degree in Commerce or Economics Diploma in Project Management will be an added advantage At least 8 years relevant experience Projects management skills a) Preparing and submitting departmental work plans and budgets for the succeeding financial year; b) Implementing all approved plans, policies and budgets of the department; c) Interpreting and overseeing implementation of corporate planning monitoring and research policies; d) Coordinating long, medium term and short term planning; e) Participating in the preparation, design, appraisal, monitoring and development projects and programmes and developing M&E systems; and f) Conducting research and economic analysis and disseminating research findings and policy recommendations. 15. Job Title: Pension Scheme Administrator (1Post) Human Capital and Administration KETRACO/5/1C/40/24-B Job Grade: MG 7 To carry out efficient administration of the Company s pension scheme and gratuity payments.
13 Bachelor s degree in Social Sciences or Business related profession Diploma in Human Resource Management or equivalent At least 7 years relevant experience Financial and Investment knowledge Good leadership, Communications, problem solving & negotiation skills a) Facilitating processing of pension benefits in accordance with the Trust Deeds rules and regulations; b) Preparing of timely annual pension fund annual accounts; c) Monitoring and evaluating all administrative fund management, custodial services and effecting any necessary changes as may be directed by the Trustees; d) Providing an interface between KETRACO and pension scheme administrators, fund managers and custodians of staff superannuation funds; and e) Liaising with the government on the computation of staff retirement benefits. 16. Job Title: Land Economist (1Post) KETRACO/5/1C/40/14-B Power System Planning and Development Job Grade: MG 7 Overall responsibility: To determine property values and participate in mediation of valuation matters. Bachelor s Degree in Land Economics Registered Valuer with the Institute of Surveyors of Kenya At least 7 years of relevant experience in property valuation Good leadership, Communications, problem solving & negotiation skills Thorough research, judgment and analytical skills Knowledge in managing projects a) Participating and providing advice on land and property financing and valuation matters; b) Participating in determining values property by considering market demand, condition of items, future trends and other factors;

Job Title: Way leave Officer (1 Post) Power System Planning and Development KETRACO/5/1C/40/15-B Job Grade: MG 7 Overall responsibility: To obtain landowner consents, way leaves and easements for the construction of transmission infrastructure. Bachelor s Degree in Land Economics/Survey Registered Valuer At least 7 years of relevant experience Good Communications, problem solving & negotiation skills Strong computer operation skills Project Management skills a) Securing access arrangements from landowners and occupiers for transmission line construction work; b) Acquiring all way leave agreements and deeds of easement as required; c) Processing acquisitions of way leaves for the expansion of transmission lines as per company policies and procedures; d) Attending to way leaves complaints and resolving them; e) Carrying out inspection of title deeds to establish the legal owners of plots affected by KETRACO way leaves process; f) Conducting assessments of properties destroyed while the lines are being constructed. g) Carrying out negotiation for compensation with property owners; and h) Issuing letters of infringement notices on persons infringing on company way leaves trace.

Job Title: Records Officer (1Post) Legal Services KETRACO/5/1C/40/25-B Job Grade: MG 8 To implement company-wide records and archives management program in accordance with the established policies and statutory requirements. Bachelor s Degree in Records Management/Information Science or its equivalent Post graduate Diploma in Records Management At least 5 Years relevant experience Good organizational and planning skills a) Participating in developing and implementing policies, norms and procedures for records management in the company; b) Implementing company-wide records and archives management program in accordance with the established policies and statutory requirements; c) Maintaining records management standards and codes of best practices; d) Developing records management working tools and guiding in their applications company-wide; e) Implementing risk management program for company records; f) Implementing company-wide records retention and disposal program; g) Archiving of permanent records and those with intrinsic values via digitization and reprographic means; h) Advising the Company on the legal requirements in records management; and i) Administration of the Company Archives. 19. Job Title: Security Supervisor (1Post) Security Services KETRACO/5/1C/40/29-B Job Grade: MG 8 To develop and implement security and safety procedures and ensure adherence; to effectively safeguard and protect company property.
16 Bachelor s Degree in Criminology or Security related studies will have added advantage At least 5 years experience; 3 of which must have been in a rank equivalent to Inspector of Police Proven Operation, Investigation and Analytical skills Ability to build good and reliable intelligence networks a) Ensure security and safety procedures are adhered to effectively in safeguarding and protecting company property; b) Ensure effective and efficient supervision of KETRACO Security Agents and contracted security personnel; c) Prevent and detect all forms of criminal activities directed against the Company property; d) Collect & disseminate Intelligence on criminal activities within the Company; e) Ensure all visitors to KETRACO are attended to on time and in accordance with the existing security procedures; f) Ensure all Security incidents are recorded in the Occurrence Book, communicated Security Manager and investigations initiated within 24 hours; g) Ensure effective and efficient manning of Access Control and CCTV cameras to all KETRACO premises and Sub-stations to detect any unlawful access or interference, h) Maintain data base on all security incidents and cases reported; i) Prepare daily, weekly and monthly security reports on all security incidents reported/ detected and submit the same to Head of Security Services; j) Build good working relationship with Government Agencies and other Security stakeholders; and k) Facilitate liaison with the Police and Courts of Law for prompt investigation and determination of all cases reported by KETRACO. 20. Job Title: Assistant Accountant Budget (1Post) Finance and Accounts KETRACO/5/1C/40/22-B Job Grade: MG 10 To assist in preparation, implementation and review of the corporate budget in conformance to set policies, procedures and guidelines.
17 Bachelor of Commerce Accounting / Finance CPA Part III At least 4 years relevant experience Strong computer operation skills Good organizational and planning skills a) Assisting in preparing budget guidelines; b) Analyzing revenues and operating expenses to establish actual status; c) Analyzing budgets to establish actual performance and variances; d) Ensuring adherence to budget controls in place; e) Implement accounting policies and procedures; and f) Assist and coordinate the processing of departmental budgets. 21. Job Title: Security Agent (1Post) Security Services KETRACO/5/1C/40/30-B Job Grade: MG 13 To prevent and detect all forms of criminal activities within the Company. Diploma in Criminology or Security related studies At least 3 years experience in any of the disciplined or armed forces Ability to build good and reliable Intelligence networks a) Ensure effective and efficient supervision of contracted security personnel; b) Ensure Security Guards/Guardittees are deployed on time and monitor their performance; c) Prevent and detect all forms of criminal activities within the Company; d) Ensure all visitors to KETRACO are attended to in time and in accordance with the existing security procedures; e) Ensure all security incidents are recorded in the Occurrence Book and communicated to Security Supervisor and Security Manager immediately; f) Ensure effective and efficient manning of CCTV and Access Control to KETRACO premises to detect any unlawful access or interference;
18 g) Maintain data base on all security incidents and cases reported; h) Prepare daily, weekly and monthly security reports on all incidents reported/ detected and submit the same to Head of Security Services; i) Build good working relationship with Government Agencies and other Security stakeholders; and j) Facilitate liaison with the Police and Courts of Law for prompt investigation and determination of all cases reported by KETRACO.
