You will work as part of a team of 8 staff across two classes with up to 8 statemented pupils in each class. This is an exciting challenge for committed teaching assistants with previous SEN experience to come and work within the ARP classes to develop excellent inclusive education practices and opportunities for pupils. Beaconsfield Primary School is a well-resourced, inclusive one form entry school that offers a very supportive environment to staff and pupils. Our ARP classes are purpose built and well furnished including dedicated outdoor learning spaces and a sensory/ soft play space for use by children from the ARP classes. We are looking for dynamic, inspirational staff members who have: a minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent in an aspect of child care/ education proven experience of working with pupils within a learning environment who have Speech and Language difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Moderate Learning Difficulties excellent numeracy and literacy skills (Equivalent to GCSE Grade A-C) (tested at interview) knowledge of and skills in using specialist communication systems e.g. Makaton, PECs an understanding of P-Levels and support for pupils below national curriculum levels a commitment and passion for inclusive education along with a patient, flexible and positive manner And a staff member who is able to: work closely with our inclusion leader, ARP leader and other staff as part of a team communicate effectively, both orally and in writing as well as being ICT literate consistently implement agreed pupil behavior programs and contribute to team strategy discussions follow differentiated planning, other specialist programmes and individual plans with patience and calmness to ensure pupils are fully participating in activities and sessions. build and maintain effective relationships with pupils, treating them with respect and consideration Beaconsfield Primary School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and you will be required to complete an enhanced disclosure from the CRB. 2 9 th January 2012 Dear Applicant, Thank you for your interest in the SEN Teaching Assistant post at Beaconsfield Primary School. This position offers an exciting, challenging opportunity for a team orientated, can-do person to join our dedicated and hard-working staff team within our Additional Resource Provision (ARP) classes. The two ARP classrooms were created to meet the growing demand for SEN places for children in KS1 and KS2 classes who require small class specialised teaching strategies and support below the level of Special School. All children placed in the ARP classes have a statement of special educational needs and the aim is for the classes to primarily serve pupils from the Southall area. Classes can hold up to 8 pupils with two SEN Teaching Assistants and one SEN teacher working within each class. You will have the opportunity to work with our very experienced Inclusion Leader and with our SEN teachers to continue to develop the class setting/ resources/ programmes etc to provide high quality learning opportunities for our pupils. As part of the ARP provision we have created a sensory/ soft play space for use by the children from the ARP classes with over of specialist equipment for sensory activities. As a school we are very keen for the ARP classes to be a fully integrated part of our school and not an add-on component. This is important as pupils within the ARP classes will be expected to spend some of their time at school working with your support in mainstream classes. We aim to provide joint training opportunities around some learning themes as well specialised training around areas linked directly to SEN work. To facilitate pupils access to specialist and main stream provision as indicated by their statement of special educational needs. 6. To encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively, ensuring all pupils are engaged in activities.
4 7. To provide support in the delivery of the Primary Strategies and National Curriculum as appropriate. Support for the teacher 8. To work closely with the teacher to assist in the planning, development and delivery of all areas of the curriculum 9. To work under supervision of the class teacher to support the learning, social, emotional and physical development of the pupils 10. As required, to prepare the classroom/outside areas for lessons, ensuring that specialist resources and equipment are available as necessary and cleared away at the end of the lessons as appropriate Support for the school 11. To comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, SEN/Inclusion and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate named person. 12. To liaise with parents/ carers or agencies involved in supporting development of special educational needs pupils. 13. To attend relevant meetings and participate in training opportunities and professional development as required. 14. To provide support for pupils emotional and social needs by encouraging and modelling positive behaviour in line with school policy. 15. To accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required within contracted hours and to take responsibility for special educational needs pupils under the supervision of the teacher. 16. To assist with the general pastoral care of special educational needs pupils, including helping pupils who are unwell, distressed or unsettled. 17.
