Northern California civic, cultural, and educational organizations responded resoundingly to a call for community participation. Many of the coming events are free and open to the public. For more information, please visit The Port of Oakland, Oakland International Airport (OAK), and Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) have joined the celebration by sponsoring this Trade and Tourism Art Contest. The exhibition, which will take place at OAK, offers artists a unique opportunity to be a part of this historic and commemorative moment in California s history. Trade and Tourism Art Contest Artists are invited to submit original works of art for a regional juried exhibition that centers on the topic of trade and tourism in the Bay Area and features imagery such as the Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, Jack London Square, Port of Oakland, and San Francisco Bay. The art exhibit will be shown at the Oakland International Airport from May 25 September 7, Artists may submit all

2 media including 2-D, 3-D, sound, and video works. Complimenting this juried exhibit will be a historical component that highlights the Golden Gate Bridge s building and history. The Oakland Museum of California has selected the following arts professionals to jury the submitted artworks: Emily Anderson, Exhibitions Director and Curator, Richmond Art Center Carrie Lederer, Curator of Exhibitions and Programs, Bedford Gallery Suzanne Tan, Executive Director, Berkeley Art Center Artist Eligibility All artists age 18 and over who live or work in the following Bay Area counties are eligible to apply: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Jose, Solano, and Sonoma. All media will be considered. Works must be original and completed within the last 3 years. The maximum number of entries is five per artist or artist team. Port of Oakland, Oakland International Airport, and Oakland Museum of California employees and their family members may not apply. 3 Entry Fee There is no entry fee for this exhibition. Entry Form Please see the BayVAN website for specific instructions on applying and uploading digital images at Size and Weight Specifications Works may be of any medium, but should be less than 4 feet in any direction. Final measurements and weight must be inclusive of frame, if applicable. Weight may not exceed 75 pounds. Sound and video must be digital files and limited to 4 minutes. Sales No artwork will be offered for sale. Awards Process Exhibition jurors will select award winners from the submitted and accepted artworks. Additionally, passengers, employees, and visitors to OAK will choose two Public Choice awards by casting voting ballots and depositing them in secure boxes placed in each exhibit location. The artwork receiving the highest number of votes in each of the two exhibit locations will be awarded a $350 cash prize. Juror selections will also receive cash prizes of $350 each. Artist is responsible for: Submitting their completed application to BayVAN before March 2, 2012, 11:59 pm. Delivering their artwork(s) to OMCA between the dates of April 18 20, 9 am-4 pm. Providing their artwork ready to install: 2-D work must be properly prepared for hanging. No framing with glass or saw tooth hangers allowed. Sculptures must be fabricated to sit safely on a pedestal. Picking up their artwork(s) at OMCA at a prescheduled time between the dates of September 19 21, 9 am-4 pm. Being professional and cooperative with OMCA staff and all exhibition guidelines. Notification of Results All artists who submit their materials for review will receive electronic notification of the results of the selection process. Notification will be sent to the address provided when applying through BayVAN. Please do not call the Port of Oakland, Oakland International Airport or Oakland Museum of California for this information. Acceptance of Submissions The Port of Oakland and Oakland International Airport reserve the right to reject all applications and/or submitted artworks.

4 Restrictions Though this juried exhibition is organized and managed by the Oakland Museum of California, no component of the show will be at the Museum. OMCA reserves the right to refuse work that is misrepresented based on the submission, and/or is unsuitable to the airport environment. Only the artwork submitted to the call for entry and selected by the jury can be shown in the exhibition. No substitutions will be allowed. All artwork included in the exhibition must remain on display for the duration of the show. No artwork may be removed from the exhibition prior to the exhibition closing date unless deemed necessary by OMCA. OMCA reserves the right to adjust framing for 2-D work and add proper stabilization for 3-D objects in order to ensure security and exhibition presentation. If artwork requires an unreasonable amount of labor for framing or stability, OMCA staff may call upon the artist to remedy the problem and/or reserves the right to refuse acceptance to the exhibit. Artists must agree to sign OMCA loan forms and to provide all requested information regarding each artwork prior to delivery of the work to OMCA. Objects lent to OMCA for exhibition at OAK will be insured and protected from theft, damage, vandalism, and loss. OAK is a fully operational airport that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Artificial lights are left on continuously and in some display areas, natural light levels are significantly higher than would be permitted in a museum setting. Given this circumstance, artwork displayed at OAK is vulnerable to fading and degradation due to high light exposure. 5 Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary May 27, 2012 marks 75 years for the Golden Gate Bridge and a wonderful opportunity to recognize the history, beauty, and ingenuity of this famous span.
