1 1 2 3 UN HABITAT JPO REQUIREMENTS POSITION (JPO-Economist) ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT SUBJECT DUTY STATION QUALIFICATIONS Urban Economy Branch Urban Economy (Municipal Finance Branch ) (Waste Management Specialist) Urban Basic Services Branch Youth and Urban Economy Urban and municipal financing Waste Management The candidate is expected to have a Masters Degree of equivalent in one or more of the relevant fields, including urban economy, urban planning and/or regional planning. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advance university degree. The candidate is expected to have advanced degree in urban and/or municipal finance. Good knowledge of current local government and urban financing issues and solutions is required. He/she must also have good speaking and writing skills in the English language. Education: Advanced University degree (Masters or Equivalent) in Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Urban Geography, Urban or Regional Planning or related fields such as Public or Business Administration with knowledge on sustainable waste management, or a first degree with the relevant combination of professional and academic qualifications. Work Experience: At least two (2) years of relevant experience in public, private or community organisations with a focus on practical implementation of waste management programmes or the management of waste management services at the city level. 4 (Sustainable Urban Mobility Specialist) Urban Basic Services Branch Sustainable Urban Mobility s: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, excellent fluency in oral and written English is essential. Education: Knowledge Advanced of University French and/or degree Spanish (Masters or or other Equivalent) United Nations in Transportation official Planning or Engineering, Urban Geography, Urban or Regional Planning or related fields such as Public or Business Administration with knowledge on sustainable urban transportation and mobility issues and implication of new models or a first degree with the relevant combination of professional and academic qualifications. Work Experience: At least two (2) years of relevant experience in public, private or community organisations with a focus on practical implementation of urban transportation programmes and initiatives in non-motorized transport and public transit initiatives s: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, excellent fluency in oral and written English is essential. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish or other United Nations official languages an asset. Other Skills: Understanding of diverse institutional cultures and the specific needs and conditions of low-income residents, slum- dwellers, NGOs and Municipalities involved in addressing the urban mobility needs of the poor.
2 5 (Associate Expert disaster management) Risk Reduction Unit/City Resilience Profiling Programme/ Disaster Management with possible relocation to Barcelona, Spain University degree in Urban or Regional Planning/Engineering/Architecture/Development Economics/Urban Governance with experience in the identification and design of technical cooperation projects and policy development would be appropriate. Relevant experience would ideally be in the area of disaster management, vulnerability reduction, and research on (urban) systems modeling. The candidate should be highly motivated to work for an international organization, at a global level. Advanced University degree (Masters Degree or equivalent) in one or more of the relevant fields, including urban or regional planning, urban policy, policy analysis, or political science with a focus on urban affairs. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advance university degree. 6 (JPO) Urban Planning and Design Branch (UPDB) National Urban Policies Working Experience: At least two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in urban or urban development policy, policy analysis and assessment related work, and urban/regional planning. Experience in operational activities and research and/or policy development work related to urban management issues in developing countries will be a strong advantage. Experience in international work and knowledge of UN-Habitat activities and its partner programmes would be an asset. The JPO must have excellent communication and technical writing skills and be capable of working in a multicultural environment. He/she must be fluent in English. Knowledge in one ore more additional United Nations languages is desirable. Qualifications: Advanced University degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in one or more of the relevant fields, including urban or regional planning, architecture, landscape planning, with a focus on urban planning and design. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advance university degree. 7 (JPO) Urban Planning and Design Branch (UPDB) Urban Planning Working Experience: At least two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in urban planning or design practice, with private companies, public agencies or academia. Experience in operational activities and research and/or policy development work related to urban management issues (preferably with a local government or with the United Nations) will be a strong advantage. The JPO must have excellent communication and technical drawing skills and be capable of working in a multicultural environment. He/she must be fluent in English. Knowledge of one or more additional United Nations languages is desirable.
3 8 (JPO) Urban Legislation, Land and Governance Branch (ULLG), Urban Governance Local Government and Decentralization Unit (LGDU) Advanced University degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in one or more of the relevant fields, including urban or regional planning, political science, social sciences or geography with a focus on local and urban management. Working Experience: At least two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in social/economic sustainable development, public administration, urban/regional planning, urban development policy analysis and assessment related work. Experience in operational activities and research and/or policy development work related to urban governance issues in developing countries will be a strong advantage. Experience in international work and knowledge of UN-Habitat activities and its partner programmes would be an asset. The JPO must have excellent communication and technical writing skills and be capable of working in a multicultural environment. He/she must be fluent in English. Knowledge in one or more additional United Nations languages is desirable. Advanced University degree (Master s degree or equivalent) in urban economics, urban planning and design, regional planning, geography or related field. 9 (Urban Economy and Finances) Latin America and the Caribbean Urban Economy and Finances Rio de Janeiro, Brazil At least 2 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in urban economy and finances, urban development projects, regional development or a related field. Experience in business plan design is highly desirable. Working experience in LAC would be an asset English and French are UN working languages. For this position, fluency in oral and written Spanish and English is required. Knowledge of Portuguese is an asset. Advanced University degree (Master s degree or equivalent) in urban planning and design, regional planning, urban economics, geography or related field.. 10 (Urban Planning) Latin America and the Caribbean Urban Planning Rio de Janeiro, Brazil At least 2 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in urban planning, urban design, regional planning or a related field. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. 17 (Gender Specialist), Programme Division Fluency in French and/or Spanish is highly desirable. Working Experience At least 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience relevant to gender equality mainstreaming in the context of sustainable development. Experience in a multinational setting is desirable. Advanced university degree (MSc degree and above) in architecture, social, economic or physical sciences relevant to development and management of Housing, Human Settlements, Architecture or Social Sciences, urban and regional planning, or a first university degree with relevant combination of academic and professional qualifications. 18 (JPO) Housing and Slum Upgrading Branch Global Housing Strategy Implementation Working Experience: At least two (2) of relevant professional experience in multidisciplinary human settlements projects and programmes, of which, preferably, at two years at the international level. Proven experience in housing, slum upgrading and human settlements development fields, project/programme designs and their management is necessary. Experience in international work and knowledge of UN-Habitat activities and its partner programmes would be an asset. The JPO must have excellent communication and technical writing skills and be capable of working in a multicultural environment. He/she must be fluent in English. Knowledge in one ore more additional United Nations languages is desirable. Education: Advanced university degree (Masters or Equivalent) in Social or Engineering Sciences including Architecture and Urban/Regional Planning, International Development or related disciplines. 19 (Shelter and Settlements Recovery ) Risk Reduction and Rehabilitation Branch Work Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of practical international working experience with strong background in either planning and design of settlements, disaster management, urban security, urban upgrading projects with emphasis on developing countries or project management. s: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, excellent fluency in oral and written English is essential. Knowledge of French, Spanish and/or Arabic will be considered as assets. Other Skills: Knowledge of UN policies and procedures is an advantage.
7 Education: Advanced university degree (Master s degree or equivalent) in human resources management, business or public administration, social sciences, education or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. (Associate 20 Human Resources ), Office of Management Human Resources Experience: For applicants with an advanced university degree (Master s degree or equivalent), a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management, administration or related area. For applicants with a first-level university degree, a minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management, administration or related area : English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
