2 OVERVIEW One factor directly affecting the stability and growth of a utility is the efficient use of capital budgets. The utilization of effective project management principles will ensure that projects are finished on time and on budget. The methods taught in this course will provide project managers with tools and strategies to obtain greater control over all aspects of a projects life cycle. This course is designed to provide project stakeholders ranging from executives, estimating operations, marketing, accounting, engineering, project management office staff and field and support personnel with project management best practices that can be applied to utility capital projects from the utility project owner perspective. The best practices will be broken out into five phases: Project Initiation, Project Planning, Project Execution, Project Monitoring and Control and Project Close out. The course will focus on the project planning phase, and the development and utilization of an effective project management plan. For each phase the course will address tools and techniques that will help attendees integrate best practices into their future projects. Kuiken PMP, Program Manager, Leidos Mr. Kuiken has five years of experience as a mechanical engineer and eleven years of experience as a project/program integration manager, responsible for leading engineering design teams. He is an Engineering Manager for Leidos.. He provides contract administration, requirements development, scope and schedule development, project planning, project budgeting and controls, engineering, consulting, management, and design services for complex system, multiphase proj ects. His previous experience has included project management of a variety of power delivery projects with substation, transmis sion, distribution, and smart grid projects for municipal, commercial, and federal entities. Mr. Kuiken received his B.S. in Mechani cal Engineering from Colorado State University and earned his M.S. in Product Development from the University of Detroit Mercy. James F. Hannigan PMP, P.E., Project Manager, Leidos Mr. Hannigan is a civil structural engineer with eleven years of experience in transmission line engineering and project management. He has been the project manager on a variety of projects throughout their entire lifecycle responsible for scope development, project estimating and budgeting, schedule development and tracking, permit acquisition, procurement of materials, and project closeout. He received his B.S. in Civil Engineering as well as his M.S. in Civil Engineering from Worchester Polytechnic Institute. PAGE 4

5 REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF PROGRAM Participants must sign in/out each day and be in attendance for the entirety of the course to be eligible for continuing education credit. INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS Case Studies, Power Point presentations and Classroom exercise will be used for this event. PROCEEDINGS The proceedings of the course will be published, and one copy will be distributed to each registrant at the course. IACET CREDITS EUCI has been accredited as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). In obtaining this accreditation, EUCI has demonstrated that it complies with the AN-SI/ IACET Standard which is recognized internationally as a standard of good practice. As a result of their Au-thorized Provider status, EUCI is authorized to offer IACET CEUs for its programs that qualify under the AN-SI/IACET Standard.
