2 OVERVIEW Cables in power generation plants and industrial plants are often considered a secondary importance when compared to the large expensive machinery such as turbines, generators and more. However, cables are essential to the efficiency and productivity of any plant operations. This course is designed to discuss the proper selection, installation, and maintenance of power cables between 600v and 46kv. In this course you will understand how to select, install and test a variety of cable types and constructions. Attendees will review the industry s best practices, safety, and tools to make installations that save time and money. This course will also feature a series of hands-on demonstrations that will enhance learning and will add to the understanding of field applications. 5 INSTRUCTORS Jim Bright / Vice President Consulting Engineers and EPC s / The Southwire Company Jim Bright has over 30 years experience in the electrical Industry. A graduate of the University of La Vern, BS, Mr. Bright worked 11 years at 3M in their Electrical Products Division. He spent 4 years as the District Manager at the Okonite Company. Mr. Bright has a diverse background in industrial cable and cable accessories. He has managed the technical specifications and sales efforts at major EPC s including Fluor, Worley Parsons, and Jacobs Engineering. He has created technical specification standards used by many consulting engineers. He has managed long term industrial projects with Kiewit, the University of California System, OC Sanitation, and the Department of Defense. Mr. Bright is an expert in medium voltage cable and cable accessories and has successfully trained and created business collaborations with leading electrical contractors and electrical engineering consulting firms. Mr. Bright is also experienced in electrical distribution, inventory management, financial systems, strategic planning, and finance. For the last 12 years Mr. Bright has worked at The Southwire Company in various capacities including field sales engineering and as regional director, and currently serves as Vice President responsible for Consulting Engineers and EPC s. Mr. Bright has an MBA from Pepperdine University and has taught undergraduate courses at the university level as an adjunct instructor. He has also instructed at the JATC, ABC, and is a frequent speaker at regional IAS/IEEE meetings. Chip Tairney / Vice President Western Region / The Southwire Company Chip Tairney has over 17 years of experience in the wire and cable industries. A graduate of The Citadel with a BS in Electrical Engineering, Chip has worked in Engineered Equipment, Field Applications/Installation, Research and Development, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Codes, Standards and Sales, all related to wire and cable products. Chip has a wide range of experience in cabling solutions ranging from fiber optic cabling to medium voltage cables and from underground to overhead installation and applications. For the last 10 years Chip has worked for The Southwire Company in capacities ranging from applications engineering, field engineering and sales, director of renewable energy sales, and currently Vice President of Western Regional Industrial Cable Sales. 5
