3 The Port of Zeebrugge Concept Intercontinental food cargo We know that sensitive reefer cargo and frozen food transport and warehousing deserve a dedicated approach. That is why we have brought together all the official authorities involved with perishable cargo in our Border Inspection Post (BIP). In this specialised centre, veterinary clearance, customs and maritime police all work under the same roof to speed up the clearance of your cargo, which is completely segregated from other food cargo to avoid contamination with products. In the Port of Zeebrugge, your container can be dispatched to the market while the vessel is at berth; the food cargo can make its way to your customers or be temporarily stored in our deepfreeze warehouses. Reefer containers Three deepsea container terminals offer a total of 1,200 reefer plugs. Container Handling Zeebrugge: 250 APM Terminals: 780 Zeebrugge International Port: 170 The Border Inspection Post, which houses veterinary inspection and customs offices, is located within a 2 km radius of the container terminals and cold storage warehouses. This results in considerable time-saving and lower transport costs to get your cargo cleared and released. All major container shipping lines are active on the Asia-Europe route, with daily arrivals to and from the markets in the Middle East and Far East. Fifty percent of all deep-sea containers originate in China.. inland platforms. Belgian New Fruit Wharf, a Sea-Invest subsidiary, offers m² of cold storage for pallets of exotic or deciduous fruit and vegetables. The facility is also equipped to handle containers and is fully controlled by WMS with real-time barcode scanning. A growing number of 45 reefer containers are being used on the frequent RORO services to destinations in the UK, Ireland and Spain. Regular block trains link the Zeebrugge RORO and container terminals to Reefer ships The Port of Zeebrugge has been Europe s main entry point for Zespri kiwifruit from New Zealand since Annual volumes amount to tonnes. Zeebrugge Breakbulk Terminal, a joint-venture between ICO and Rhenus Holding, offers specialised facilities for the storage and packaging of potatoes and sugar. Imports from the Caribbean, South America, New Zealand, and the Mediterranean. Frequent exports to Saint Petersburg in Russia.

5 Know-how & Facilities Agrobulk Borlix has 25 silo bins that can store tonnes of soybeans, linseed, rapeseed and other grains. They also offer toasting and extruding, dehulling, bagging, sieving and distribution activities. Seaport Shipping & Trading, located in the port of Bruges, offers m² of covered warehousing for grains, seeds and animal fodder. The bulk cargo is conveyed to and from the facility by barges, seagoing ships and trucks. Group Depré, in the port of Bruges, specialises in the handling and storage of grains, rice and animal fodder. They offer m² of covered warehousing. A vast range of liquid food products is transported in tank containers. RORO shipping lines like P&O Ferries, Cobelfret, SOL and DFDS offer frequent daily service between the Continent and the UK. The port also offers tank cleaning facilities. Liquid bulk Pespsi Co. has invested more than 50 million in its Tropicana bottling facility in the inner port. It handles and bottles some 250 million litres of fresh fruit juices, imported mainly from Brazil, every year. Tameco, a division of United Molasses, operates a tank terminal in the inner port for the reception, storage and distribution of molasses and other liquid food products. Fresh fish fish The Vlaamse Visveiling covers the fish auctions based in the Port of Zeebrugge. Every year some tonnes of fresh fish are sold to wholesalers all over Europe via internet-based auction technology. The European Food Center is a logistics platform that includes both fish auctions and some 130 trading, supplying and processing companies. Several large fish processing companies in the immediate hinterland of the Port of Zeebrugge profit from the steady supply of fresh and frozen fish that they get from the port.

6 Know-how Value addes & services Facilities Reefer Cold storage containers Zeebrugge Food Logistics operates an m³ deepfreeze warehouse and is equipped to store and manage pallets of perishables. They also have m³ of cold storage area and offer cross-docking and value-added activities such as labelling, weighing, repacking, order picking and distribution. Flanders Cold Centre has a m³ deepfreeze storage area for fruit juices, vegetables, meat, seafood and dairy products. The company offers stock management, cross-docking, container stripping and stuffing activities. Various other companies located in or near the Port of Zeebrugge also offer deepfreeze storage facilities: Acutra, Pittman Seafoods, North Freeze and Depondt. All these companies work closely together with transport companies and customs agencies that specialise in reefer transport. Every year, from October to May, reefer ships convey some tonnes of Zespri kiwifruit from New Zealand to the packing station in the Zeebrugge inner port. The fruit is subsequently distributed to all major consumption centres in Northwest Europe. Packing / Reefer bottling ships / blending The Tropicana bottling facility of Pepsi Co. receives and bottles some 250 million litres of fruit juices every year. The juice is transported by tankers, mostly from Brazil. More than 80% of the palletised finished product is exported to the UK, using the Port of Zeebrugge s wide array of short sea shipping facilities. Seabridge Logistics is part of the Efico group, a globally active coffee and cacao trader. Zeebrugge s clean environment largely contributed to their decision to set up their European centre for the automated refinement, processing, storage and distribution of green coffee in the Port of Zeebrugge. The centre currently has a surface area of m² and a storage capacity for coffee bags.

7 Know-how & Facilities Distribution to Continental Europe and UK Europe - UK: door-to-door transport The successful Zeebrugge - UK door-to-door concept is based on the geographical spread of UK ports, which have daily links with the Port of Zeebrugge. Another determining factor is the comparatively low logistics cost in Zeebrugge compared to the UK. As a result, orders picked in a Zeebrugge warehouse on Day A before 2 p.m. are guaranteed a JIT delivery with the UK client on Day B. Several companies offer FCL, LCL, FTL or LTL solutions. 2XL has m² of rail-connected warehouse surface for the storage of buffer stocks between European producers and consignees in the UK. The direct customer service approach, which avoids regional distribution centres in the UK, can lead to a 25% reduction in supply chain costs. ECS (European Container Services) offers warehouse solutions and intermodal 45 door-to-door logistics between and within the UK, Ireland and Continental Europe. The company has m² of warehouse surface, 2000 m² of cold stores and 40 bays for cross-docking. Freight forwarding & transport Nearly 70 road transport companies have offices in the Port of Zeebrugge. A number of them specialise in temperature-controlled transportation and have invested in cold storage warehouses. The Transport Zone Zeebrugge (TZZ) is a strategically located area specially developed for the road transport sector. Shippers can choose from many different companies; this results in high service levels and very competitive prices. The cargo generating effect of the port s freight forwarding community has been very instrumental in establishing a vast network of short sea and deep-sea links. Food transportation, and reefer cargo in particular, requires a great deal of effort and care.
