EVENT DETAILS Overview To assist in your scheduling and travel arrangements, I offer this précis of the Summit agenda. The 2016 Health and Human Services Summit: Catalysts for Generative Outcomes begins with a Welcome Reception the evening of Friday, October 14, from 6:00-8:00 PM at a location TBA. Registration will be available at the Welcome Reception, and at breakfast both days. Continental breakfast, coffee breaks, and lunches will be provided at the classroom location on both class days. Class begins at 8:00 AM Saturday, October 15, at Maxwell Dworkin (see below). The first class day will conclude at 5:00 PM. That evening there will be a Reception beginning at 6:30 PM and Dinner at 7:30 PM at a location TBA. The second day of class begins at 8:00 AM Sunday, October 16, and will adjourn by roughly 3:30 PM. Participants will be able to bring their luggage with them to the class location and will be able to depart directly from there to Logan Airport, South Station, etc.
2 Location The 2016 Health and Human Services Summit will be held at the Maxwell Dworkin Building, 33 Oxford Street, on the Harvard University campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This classroom building is directly across the street from Harvard s Museum of Natural History. Maxwell Dworkin is part of Harvard s John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS). SEAS is north of Harvard Yard and the Science Center, and lies between Harvard Law School and Harvard s Museum of Natural History. There is a map of the SEAS campus later in this document. A map of the greater Harvard Square vicinity is also included. The red circles show the location of the Maxwell Dworkin building, as well as other event venues and the Harvard Square T stop. Tuition? There is no tuition for the event; however, participants will need to make their own travel and hotel arrangements (see below). Meals and curriculum materials will be provided. Additional Tuition Information There is no tuition charge or fee to attend this Summit. However, attendees will be responsible for their own transportation, lodging and other related personal expenses. The sponsors of this event (including the Technology and Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard, Leadership for a Networked World and Accenture) understand that the laws of many jurisdictions restrict private parties, private sector partners and/or government contractors from providing gifts or other things of value to government officials, and in some cases require reporting of such gifts. Likewise, some government officials are restricted from accepting gifts or other things of value in many jurisdictions. Although no admission is being charged to any attendee, if required by law, regulation, policy, or otherwise, attendees may reimburse the host for costs related to their attendance. In such case, the per-person price of this conference is approximately US$1,650. This includes meals (valued at US$300), materials, speakers, and other logistical support. In addition, the regulations of certain jurisdictions allowing for the attendance and participation of government officials and employees at events with a legitimate public purpose and benefit for the government agency, subject to the approval of the appropriate agency head, at widely attended events, and at educational events, may be relevant to this event. Please check with your ethics counsel to verify that you are permitted to attend this event and to determine whether any reporting of attendance and/or reimbursement of costs will be required. 3 GENERAL INFORMATION Attire: Attire for all portions of the event(s) is business casual. Please note that New England weather is highly unpredictable: we recommend dressing in layers as well as consulting the web for forecasts in the immediate run-up to the event. We also suggest shoes comfortable for walking on the various uneven road and sidewalk surfaces in Harvard Square (brick, cobblestone, asphalt, grass, etc.). Name Badges: You will receive your name badge during registration. Please wear your name badge at all times to facilitate networking and to ensure access to the Harvard buildings. In most cases, the badge will provide sufficient identification in the public areas at Harvard. Use of First Names: Harvard serves as neutral ground and provides a mutually respectful environment for participants in our programs. To this end, we use first names for participants, staff and faculty. This should be recognized as an integrated component of our educational process. Smoking Policy: In accordance with Cambridge law, smoking is not permitted in Harvard buildings. Security: The University is not responsible for loss or damage to personal property. Valuables should be kept under lock and key or on your person at all times. The main classroom for the Summit will be locked overnight, so session materials can be left on-site. However, we recommend that anything of greater value be brought with you in the evening. TRANSPORTATION TO HARVARD SQUARE Please plan to fly in to Boston s Logan Airport. By train, come in to Boston s South Station. The best way to get from Logan Airport or South Station to Harvard University/Harvard Square is by taxi. The fare should be approximately US$ The trip should take about 20 minutes (only slightly longer if traffic is severe). There are cab stands at each terminal in Logan Airport as well as outside South Station; you should not need to call ahead to make arrangements. If you plan to take public transportation, Harvard Square station is on the Alewife-bound direction of the Red Line of Boston s subway, the T. (South Station is another Red Line stop.) This document includes maps and walking directions to our Summit locations from the Harvard T Stop. Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. PARKING The 52 Oxford Street Garage is the closest parking facility to our Summit location (Maxwell Dworkin, 33 Oxford Street) and nearly always has availability. The next closest would be the Broadway facility. You may go online to purchase daily permits. PLEASE NOTE: you will need to purchase One- Day Online Permits and NOT a Temporary Permit. And you MUST purchase your permits ahead of time. (cont d next page) 3
4 The weekday visitor's rate is $17 per permit. The after-5pm and Weekend rate is $8/day. To make your Online permit purchase go to: And click on Visitor. ACCOMMODATIONS We have secured a rate-hold arrangement at a hotel in the area, for your convenience. The rateholds ensure a special rate for our group for a defined period of time as long as rooms are available; they do not guarantee room availability. All hotel rooms in Cambridge are subject to 14.45% local taxes in addition to the specified nightly rate. Participants are responsible for their own hotel arrangements. Please note: because many of the area s hotels have been fitted into existing historic spaces and structures, you may find guest rooms here to be slightly smaller than what you are used to! Hyatt Regency Cambridge 575 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, MA (Overlooking the Charles River) The Hyatt Regency Cambridge has agreed to provide rooms at prevailing government per diem after the Per Diem rates are published. There is complimentary standard wireless Internet in each guest room. The hotel prefers that you use the Passkey electronic registration, available here: Reservations must be guaranteed by the individual s credit card to secure the reservation. Guaranteed room reservations not canceled 48 hours in advance of arrival will be billed for one night s room and tax if the guest does not arrive as scheduled. 9 Walking Directions from the Harvard T-stop to the Maxwell Dworkin: Approximate Distance:.5 miles Approximate Time: 9 minutes After you exit the Harvard T-Station at the main entry, you should see the Harvard Coop directly across the street from you. Turn right and walk up Massachusetts Avenue away from the station. As you walk, the buildings of Harvard Yard should be on your right. Follow the sidewalk along the Harvard Yard buildings and continue as you go to the right around the corner. Turn left to cross over Cambridge Street. Pass between the Science Center on your left and Memorial Hall on your right. You will come to the corner of Kirkland and Oxford Streets. Continue down Oxford Street. Maxwell Dworkin will be on your left at 33 Oxford Street, across the street from the Harvard Museum of Natural History. Walking Directions from the Harvard T-stop to the Harvard Faculty Club: Approximate Distance:.3 miles Approximate Time: 5 minutes After you exit the Harvard T-Station at the main entry, head southeast down Massachusetts Avenue. You will pass a large Au Bon Pain on your right with Harvard Yard and its associated buildings on your left. As you reach a fork in the road, make a slight left on to Harvard Street. Take an immediate left on to Quincy Street. The Harvard Faculty Club is at 20 Quincy Street. It is the third building on the right-hand side of Quincy Street. 9
10 Walking Directions from the 52 Oxford Street Garage to Maxwell Dworkin: When you take the elevator from the parking levels, you will reach the exit in the lobby of the Northwest Building. From the elevator, turn right and exit the building. Walk along the paved area, keeping the building on your right. You will come to brick buildings (the University Herbaria and the Museum of Comparative Zoology); take a right before the buildings and walk through the grassy area along the Museum of Comparative Zoology. Continue along the pathway to Oxford Street. Maxwell Dworkin will be directly ahead of you, across Oxford Street. 10
