2 The Place: Charlestown Community Centre The Place is a professionally managed, not-for-profit community venue, providing a space for the community to enjoy a variety of programs, events and activities. The rooms and facilities at The Place are available for casual and regular hire by everyone - individuals, groups, or businesses - for private and public functions, special events, birthday parties, meetings, workshops, training, conferences and classes. The rooms at The Place can be hired before, during and after business hours 7 days per week. Our centre is staffed Monday to Friday 8.30am 5pm for bookings and enquiries (excluding public holidays and scheduled closure periods). The Place currently accommodates a range of regular programs and activities, including: - senior s exercise classes - music classes for children aged 0 5 years - football classes for ages 18 months to 5 years - tai chi - Zumba classes - Irish set dancing classes for men & women - martial arts classes for ages 6 years - adult - support groups - playgroup - drama classes - a ladies barbershop chorus - computer classes - youth groups & seniors social groups - free children s immunisation clinics - school holiday workshops and activities Services The Place has a range of information available on community activities and support services for groups and individuals. Bus timetables for services to and from Charlestown are available at The Place. The Place staff can provide advice and assist with event planning, catering, decorating, entertainment and marketing where appropriate. Photocopying, faxing, laminating, binding and printing services are available at The Place at affordable rates. Catering The Place staff can provide in-house catering for morning and afternoon teas, and assist with coordination of catering for lunches and special events. The Place catering services are available during reception hours only. Hirer s are also welcome to self-cater or engage external caterers. The Place is just downstairs from the South Piazza restaurants and the food court at Charlestown Square shopping centre.

3 Centre Location & Accessibility The Place: Charlestown Community Centre is located at the corner of Frederick and Pearson Streets, in Charlestown NSW. The centre is conveniently located at the southern end of the Charlestown Square shopping centre. Access to The Place is outside the shopping centre via our front door in Frederick Street, opposite the Charlestown Oval. Below is a map indicating the centre s location in relation with the shopping centre. Front door The centre is accessible for mobility impaired persons, and for wheelchairs, prams and trolleys. The accessible paths of travel from the car park and the shopping centre are: 1. From the Level 2 car park, travel out past the gym towards Frederick Street. Continue past the stair case and turn left onto Frederick Street. Travel along the lower footpath toward the bus stops, and then turn left around the garden and return along the upper footpath to the front door of the centre. 2. From the South Piazza, take the lift between Max Brenner and Strike Bowling down to street level (Pearson Street). Travel out of the lift towards Pearson Street, and turn right toward Frederick Street. Continue along the footpath and around the corner past the garden beds onto Frederick Street, behind the bus stops to the front door of the centre. Parking The most convenient parking for the centre is via the Frederick Street car park entrance to Charlestown Square. Parking at Charlestown Square is free for the first 3 hours. Extended free parking can be arranged for people who are participating in functions at The Place for more than 3 hours. Please discuss your parking needs with the staff at The Place at least one week prior to your event. Parking for bicycles is available just outside The Place adjacent to the bus stops in Frederick Street. Public Transport & Taxis Level 2 car park entry Bus stops are conveniently right out-side the centre in Frederick Street. Regular bus services are available to and from the majority of Lake Macquarie and Newcastle suburbs. A convenient taxi phone is located inside the Level 2 car park of Charlestown Square, approximately a 200m walk from The Place. After business hours, a taxi zone operates in Pearson St, approximately a 100m walk from The Place.

4 Facilities at The Place The Place has two large halls, each with sprung timber floors, which are fantastic for dance, drama, martial arts and exercise groups. A range of audio-visual and lighting facilities are available for use in the halls. The Community Hall adjoins the semi-commercial kitchen at The Place, which has a sixburner gas stove and oven, microwave, commercial fridge, freezer and dishwasher, stainless steel benches and sinks and a well-equipped pantry. The Youth Room is the second hall available at The Place, and has an in-room kitchenette with a bar fridge, sink and, microwave. Interactive games equipment including table tennis, foosball, a pool table, and a cocktail computer games table are available in the Youth Room, and can be hired for other rooms at the centre. There are two carpeted activity rooms at The Place; the larger of the two has an interactive Hitachi StarBoard and data projector. Both are fantastic for meetings, music classes, presentations, support groups and gentle exercise. The Place has a brand new computer room, with 12 networked computers, each with broadband internet and the latest Windows and Microsoft Office software, a whiteboard and a data projector. An in-room printer is available in the room (byo paper), and The Place can provide professional quality printing services if needed. Free wireless internet is available at The Place for hirers to use if needed, and there is free filtered water available in foyer. A snack and beverage vending machine is available in the hall way, and catering services can be provided by The Place on request. A range of furniture, audio-visual equipment, microphones and kitchen items are available for hire and use at The Place. A summary of the rooms available for hire at The Place and their key features is provided on the next page.

Corporate Rate may be negotiated if the business or government department enters into a partnership with The Place to support the organisation in reaching its social and community objectives. Venue hiring rate for groups that are: Unfunded community groups (excluding political or religious groups), or; Community groups working in partnership with The Place to support The Place in reaching its social and community objectives.

7 Hire rates include use of in-room facilities, including fixed whiteboards, data projectors and screens where available, and standard chairs and rectangular trestle tables throughout. Venue hire rates at The Place assume the hirer will set up and pack up the room ready for the next group within their booked hire period. The Place can provide set up and pack up services if needed (fees start from $10 weekdays). Venue hire rates assume the hirer will leave the centre clean at the end of their hire period. Cleaning equipment is provided in each room for cleaning of tables, chairs and floors. Cleaning services can be pre-arranged if needed (fees start from $41/hour weekdays, $80/hour weekends). Stairs, skirting and back rail available) Event Packages The Place staff can tailor venue hire, equipment and catering packages to suit your event and your budget. Alcohol, Security, Bonds Events with alcohol may be permitted at The Place, subject to the terms of our limited licence and our conditions of hire. For certain events, hirers may be required to engage security guards as a condition of hire. Events taking place outside of business hours require a key bond to be paid, which is refundable on return of the key following the event. Events taking place outside of business hours (and certain special events) require a venue bond to be paid, refundable after the event subject to the conditions of hire having been met.
