Initia Screens When you enter the Dua Time or Aarm Mode, the data you were viewing when you ast exited the mode appears first. Radio-controed Atomic Timekeeping Precautions Strong eectrostatic charge can resut in the wrong time being set. Even when the watch is within the reception range of the transmitter, signa reception wi be impossibe if the signa is bocked by mountains or other geoogica formations between the watch and signa source. Signa reception is affected by weather, atmospheric conditions, and seasona changes. The time caibration signa bounces off the ionosphere. Because of this, such factors as changes in the refectivity of the ionosphere, as we as movement of the ionosphere to higher atitudes due to seasona atmospheric changes or the time of day may change the reception range of the signa and make reception temporariy impossibe. Even if the time caibration signa is received propery, certain conditions can cause the time setting to be off by up to one second. 5

6 The current time setting in accordance with the time caibration signa takes priority over any time settings you make manuay. The watch is designed to automaticay update the date and day of the week for the period January 1, 2000 to December 31, Setting of the date by the time caibration signa cannot be performed starting from January 1, This watch can receive signas that differentiate between eap years and non-eap years. Though this watch is designed to receive both time data (hour, minutes, seconds) and date data (year, month, day), certain signa conditions can imit reception to time data ony. Normay, the signa reception date shown by the ast signa screen is the date data incuded in the received time caibration signa. When ony time data is received, however, the ast signa screen shows the date as kept in the Timekeeping Mode at the time of signa reception. If you are in an area where proper time caibration signa reception is impossibe, the watch keeps time within ±15 seconds a month at norma temperature. If you have probems with proper time caibration signa reception or if the time setting is wrong after signa reception, check your Home Time Zone vaue and DST (summer time) settings, and transmitter mode setting. The foowing are the initia factory defauts for these settings. Iumination Precautions The iumination provided by the ight may be hard to see when viewed under direct sunight. Iumination automaticay turns off whenever an aarm sounds. Frequent use of iumination shortens the battery operating time. Auto ight switch precautions Wearing the watch on the inside of your wrist, movement of your arm, or vibration of your arm can cause frequent activation of the auto ight switch and iuminate the face of the watch. To avoid running down the battery, turn off the auto ight switch whenever engaging in activities that might cause frequent iumination of the face. that wearing the watch under your seeve whie the auto ight switch is turned on can cause frequent iumination of the face and can run down the battery. More than 15 degrees too high Iumination may not turn on if the face of the watch is more than 15 degrees above or beow parae. Make sure that the back of your hand is parae to the ground. Iumination turns off after about two seconds, even if you keep the watch pointed towards your face. Static eectricity or magnetic force can interfere with proper operation of the auto ight switch. If iumination does not turn on, try moving the watch back to the starting position (parae with the ground) and then tit it back towards your face again. If this does not work, drop your arm a the way down so it hangs at your side, and then bring it back up again. Under certain conditions, iumination may not turn on unti about one second after you turn the face of the watch towards you. This does not necessariy indicate mafunction of the auto ight switch. You may notice a very faint cicking sound coming from the watch when it is shaken back and forth. This sound is caused by mechanica operation of the auto ight switch, and does not indicate a probem with the watch. Tachymeter Tachymeter beze TACHYMETER If your watch has a tachymeter beze, you can perform the steps beow to cacuate average speed after using the Stopwatch Mode to measure the amount of time that it takes to trave one kiometer (or one mie). Never try to perform stopwatch operations whie you are driving an automobie, riding a bicyce, or operating any type of vehice. Doing so is very dangerous and can resut in accident. 1 In the Stopwatch Mode, start an eapsed time operation at any point you ike. 2 Stop the eapsed time operation after you trave one kiometer or one mie. 3 Your average speed wi be the vaue that the second hand is pointing to on the tachymeter beze. The iustration shows an exampe where it took 50 seconds to trave one kiometer by car. The second hand is pointing at 70, which indicates that the average speed is 70 kiometers per hour. See Stopwatch for detais about using the stopwatch. The tachymeter can be used ony when you are traveing by car or some other means that can cover one kiometer or one mie within 60 seconds. 6
