3 Day 1 Monday 6 th June Depart school at 9am Meet at the rear of school, please arrive at 8.30 so we have plenty of time to load the coach Arrive at Manchester airport and check in Iceland Air Flight FI441 at Arrive Keflavik First stop - the new GeoPark visitors centre On to the HotelOrk and evening meal at Hoflandssegrid restaurant

5 Day 2 Tuesday 7 th June Golden Circle: effects of rifting and Geo-thermal baths Gullfoss awesome fault-guided waterfall and walk beside its gorge Geysir Visit Laugarvatn Fontana Spa with its geothermal pools, hot tubs and steam rooms Þingvellir National Park -rifting between American & Eurasian plates Evening meal at the handmade Burger factory Back to the Hotel Cabin

10 Day 3 Wednesday 8 th June Wilderness: Eruptions, Sharks, Waterfalls & Caving Coastal hike to view caves, arches, stacks and lava formations an erosional coastline Caving in one of the best lava tubes in Iceland with activity company Drive round the north coast stopping for awesome waterfalls (including being able to walk behind one), dramatic volcanoes and stunning sea cliffs

12 Day 3 continued On to the unique Shark Museum: the tradition of Vikings. Visit to the Volcanic museum for film and talk on Iceland s volcanic eruptions. On to the Hotel Stykkisholmur on the edge of Iceland

14 Day 4 Thursday 9 th June Wilderness: Glacier walking and Coastal Features On to the glacier beneath the impressive Snæfellsjökul volcano At the glacier Experience glacier walking Drive back to Reykjavik stopping at various sites as time allows Brief tour of Reykjavik including views over the centre from the Perlan and Hallgrímskirkja Walk to the concert hall through the city centre Evening meal: eat-all-you-want at Pizza place Back to the Hotel Cabin

17 Day 5 Friday 10 th June Into the Reykjanes To the pillow lavas and mud pots of Krýsuvík To the "Ring of Fire" crater Brimkatlar Explosion craters along the rifts walk up one Depending on weather, climb to overlook the Reykjanes geo-thermal activity: Sinter pools and steam vents at Gunnuhver Major rift where two continents are dividing (called the Land Bridge ) Icelandic evening meal at the restaurant Vitinn at Sandgerði

19 Day 6 Saturday 11 th June Departure Day Depart from Keflavik airport on flight FI 450 at Arrive Heathrow Coach back to Crossley Heath Parents collect students from the rear of school at about * Students will inform parents when coach about a more accurate time

20 Suggested kit list Hand luggage Use the day bag brought for the trip No liquids (unless in bottles less than 100mls) or sharp objects in the hand luggage Packed lunch to eat at airport or money to buy food. Iceland booklet and pen Suitcase 20KG baggage allowance A good idea to wear walking boots as can be quite heavy All equipment on kit list Remember sleeping bag Only need to be a light duty one Layers of clothing Waterproof jacket and trousers Heavy duty gloves

22 What else might you need? Spending money there will be a few opportunities to buy souvenirs. One drink and water is provided with the evening meal, if students wish to buy soft drinks they will need money. All meals in Iceland are included. However students are responsible for their own cash. Camera or phone with camera Book/Ipod/magazines/cards i.e. something to do on the long journeys. No speakers please. Water bottle to refill and lunch box to put sandwiches in

23 Standards and Expectations The highest standard of behaviour is expected. Drink/cigarettes strictly forbidden. Curfews/lights out will be enforced, you will be tired and so will the staff. We are on our best behaviour in the hotels, mindful of members of the public. Serious misbehaviour would result in being sent home at your parents expense. Students must listen carefully to advice about clothing each day

24 REMEMBER! 9am departure time we have to leave on time! Passport and EHIC must be handed to Miss Gillespie by 25 th May (a receipt will be given). Please make sure it is valid. If anyone travels on a non-british passport you need to speak to Miss Gillespie tonight. Follow staff instructions at all times, it is very important for your safety. We need to be informed of any change in contact numbers or medical conditions.
