6 Flexibility 3 with Siemens ELFA Flexibility in bus size The Siemens ELFA System is modular and can be adapted to the performance requirements of the bus, i.e length, weight, climbing ability etc. Flexibility in energy mix Following the technical progress, Siemens ELFA System can be efficiently adapted to new energy sources, e.g. from diesel to pure battery or fuel cell. This can be done at minimum effort for installation and additional costs. Flexibility in mechanical integration The ELFA serial hybrid allows most freedom in arrangement of the components since traction and power module are connected by electrical wires Page 6

12 Why Siemens? Siemens ELFA puts the focus on serial hybrid drives This type of hybrid drive allows maximum recuperation of braking energy and gives maximum flexibility in control of the combustion engine (engine stop function). This results in a reduction of fuel consumption up to 40% and the corresponding emission reduction. Further, the serial hybrid drive is the platform for the revolution to a zero emission vehicle, e.g. fuel cell, pure battery bus or electric charging bus. The key components are made by Siemens This ensures the highest manufacturing and quality standards together with optimized cost structure. Maximum flexibility with the Siemens ELFA system With the use of few standardized components the modular structure of the system allows fulfilment of the OEM's individual performance requirements for various types and sizes of buses.
