1 23 October 2015 Dear Parents and Friends, Eimeo has been celebrating achievements in lots of areas over the past 3 weeks. Academic Excellence in English & Maths at the UNSW competitions: Cultural Excellence at the Mackay Eisteddfod and Sporting Excellence in recent trials and games played within Mackay competitions. Well Done everyone who has participated and a huge thank you to all staff who have coached, trained and prepared our students for these events. I am very proud of our school and our students and staff. Important dates to remember: Friday 30 October Freaky Friday Disco Friday 30 October World Teachers Day Friday 6 November Volunteers Tuckshop Day Wednesday 11 Nov Remembrance Day, 5.30pm at Bucasia Esplanade Tuesday 17 Nov P&C Meeting Grandparents Day Celebration Thank you to the large number of Grandparents who visited classrooms throughout the morning, watched the Powerpoint of 2015 Highlights in the library and stayed for morning tea. It was a great morning and lots of positive reports about the morning were received. Thank you to all who bought in a plate of goodies to share and the many helpers who served our Grandparents. A display of the messages written by Grandparents is able to be seen in the library and in the office. If you are at the school come in and have a read. Happy Grandparents Day to all Grandparents!

2 UNSW English Achievement Awards Maths Awards ERSS was fortunate enough to receive 24 achievement awards, including one high distinction by Tessa Donavan in 6L, in this year s University of New South Wales English Competition. The competitions are held each year and provide a benchmark in excellence in a variety of different areas. This has been an outstanding year for competitors from ERSS and provides further evidence of the high standards to which we aspire. Well done to all those who gave it go. Students from year 4, 5 & 6 received their awards for success in the University of New South Wales Mathematics test. Nathan Skeggs was also acknowledged with the Principal s award which is given to the student who has shown the greatest dedication to excellence. The results capped off one of the most successful years ever. Thank you to Ms Jenny Cooper who coached the students throughout the year. More Star Students in Year 5 Star Student Badge and Certificate Presentation A very happy band of year 5 students received their Star Student Awards on parade on Monday. These students have to show commitment to their study, high attendance and a high level of school involvement. Well done. Another round of STAR Students were awarded their badges on Monday s parade. Star Students are awarded to students in Year 5 and 6 who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to education and school involvement at ERSS. Students are required to show excellent behaviour, excellent effort in all subjects and to have demonstrated the ethos of ERSS through involvement in activities such as library monitors, sporting and cultural events. For those who achieve this high status they are considered to be role models for other students and reliable ambassadors for ERSS. Well done to all those who continue this fine tradition and to these, the most recent recipients. Nippers Receive Board on Behalf of Eimeo Beach Life Saving Club Four nippers from Eimeo Beach Life Saving Club grateful received a brand new board bought with funds raised from ERSS boardies day. The board has the school logo on the base. It is great to see our students benefiting from their involvement in Life Saving and for our school community being able to help the SLS Club in this way.

3 Eisteddfod 2016 Congratulations to all students who have competed in this year s eisteddfod. Eimeo students have returned to school ecstatic with their performances and the adjudication reports. A huge thank you to our Music Department staff: Mr Rob Covey, Mrs Colleen Teong, Mrs Kathie New and Ms Lauren Menzie for their hard work in preparing the groups for performances. Thank you also to parents for your support in ensuring your child is dressed in the correct uniform, on time and ready for performances whether it is at Twilight Concerts, eisteddfods or other performances. We could not do it without the wonderful support of our families. Week One of the eisteddfod saw our instrumental student shine in all areas of performance, behaviour and manners. The students received: 1 st Senior Concert Band 1 st Beginner Concert Band 1 st Steel Drums 3 rd Small group ensemble HC African Drums Well done String Ensemble Week 2 Choirs. Our choirs were fabulous receiving a Silver Certificate for each of the performances. Congratulations to Mr Covey and Mrs Teong for all of the hard work and preparation given to our students in: Show Choir: Prep / Year 1 choir, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5/6 and Hymn and Folk choir for Year 4,5,6 students. Every student represented our school and themselves fabulously and we are very proud of their achievements. Year 2 Choir Senior Concert Band Porters Markets Saturday 7 November 9am to 2pm, Porters car park will be filled with over 48 stall holders. Eimeo Road School has been invited to have a stall at this market. We would like to have a stall where we sell home baked cakes, slices, biscuits, lollies and was wondering if our parents would again support this initiative by baking goodies and sending them in on Friday 6 November? As we have been invited to again have a stall at the 5 December market and provide some music items, we would ask families in Years 1,3,5 to supply goodies for the November markets and families in Prep, 2,4,6 in the December markets. Staff have very kindly volunteered to sell the goodies on the day. A note will come home to all families of Years 1,3 5 in the coming week. SUPA CLUB News!! A brand new and exciting club called SUPA Club is starting up this Wednesday 2nd break at Eimeo. This is a voluntary Christian club with lots of fun games and activities that operate in primary schools for students in year 5 and 6. Through SUPA Club children are able to build supportive friendships and learn important skills to assist them in their social development. Come and have fun.!!! Chappy Linda Safe School travel Group (SafeST) SPIRAL MARKING Parents, please be aware of changes to line marking on the newly resurfaced Eimeo Roundabout on the Mackay/Bucasia Road. Line marking has been altered to accommodate the uneven number of lanes on this roundabout to make the Wallmans Road exit safer. Please follow the signs and obey the speed limit at all times. 4 World Guiness Book of Records Beach Flags Challenge On Sunday 18 th October the Eimeo Surf Club attempted to break the existing World Record for the number of people attempting Beach Flags. The record is currently held by a Japanese Club they set the record at 400 people. Eimeo Surf Club knew they had a challenge ahead of them! We ended up with just over 300 participants on the day we were so close! But it was an awesome day for all those involved it was a picturesque scene seeing so many people lined up on the beach all at the one time. Many thanks to the families from ERSS who supported us in this event, we were thrilled to see so many of our students participating. Although we didn t set a World Record, we did set an Australian Record so we were very happy with that! Who knows, we may try again in a few years!! Judy Lansbury

6 PE News T20 Bash Cricket Well done to the 24 boys and girls who participated in the T20 Bash Cricket competition on Friday 16 th October. One of the boys team were only narrowing beaten by Mackay West SS (3 runs). MWSS, went on to win and will travel to Emerald for their next matches. A great day was had by all. Well done to the ERSS boys and girls on representing our school with such wonderful conduct. Twilight Swimming Carnival During Week 9 the school will be holding its Twilight Swimming Carnival at Pioneer Swim Centre from 6 pm to 8 pm. It is open to students born in 2003 to 2006, (12yrs to 9yrs) who are competent swimmers. Students born in 2006 have the option of swimming 25 m or 50 m in their preferred stroke. Students born in 2005 to 2003 may only compete in the 50m events. Parents must remain at the pool to supervise their child/children. The pool s kiosk will be open during the carnival for parents to purchase small items of food. Students will be asked to nominate for their preferred events but can also nominate on the night. Events will be freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Over the last several years Gold House has been very dominant, we look forward to the other two Houses matching their success. Medallions will be awarded to the age champions on the night. $2 admission fee is required to assist with School s hire of the pool. Amart All Sports Community Kickback Attention Christmas shoppers!! Please remember when shopping leading up to Christmas to nominate Eimeo Road State School as your Community group of choice. Those of you already an Amart member you can link to ERSS. The school account number is This term the focus for lunch time clinics will be Basketball. Starting in Week 4 we will be offering 3 separate lunch time clinics, offering each student from Year 2-6 the chance to be taken through their paces by Mackay Basketball players and coaches. The lunch time clinics are a fun and enjoyable way to have further exposure to a sport the boys and girls may show a keen interest in. Monday second break Year 6; Wednesday Years 4 & 5; Thursday Years 2 & 3.
