WELCOME OVERVIEW Our Swimming Club is open for all students at the College. Swimming is a great all round sport and is used by athletes in many sporting disciplines to enhance their performance. The Club meets twice a month on Friday afternoons from 3:45pm to 5pm. CLUB PHILOSOPHY To develop and enhance the performance of participants in an encouraging and social atmosphere. The focus is not on winning, but striving to achieve personal goals and personal bests. There are regular Club Nights on nominated Friday afternoons after school, where swimmers race against themselves and the clock. It is also an opportunity for parents to meet and mingle as part of our College community. SWIMMING CLUB vs SWIM SQUAD The Swimming Club is focused on encouraging swimming participation and personal improvement for students across all skill levels, in a supportive and social atmosphere within the school. The Swimming Club provides a friendly introduction to the world of competitive swimming. Once a level of competency has been achieved in all four strokes, assessed students can join the Swim Squad programme run regularly in the mornings and afternoons. JOINING THE CLUB JOINING THE CLUB The Club is open to all students 7 years and older. Club members are registered with Queensland Swimming. Fees cover Queensland Swimming membership, insurance, a Club swimming cap and our annual award event. Membership o 8 years and under Fee $60 o 9 years and over Fee $90 Club Transfer Fee $25 Interstate Club Transfer Fee $35
ALL THE DETAILS CLUB NIGHTS (FRIDAYS) Club Nights are held approximately each fortnight in Terms 4 and 1. Start: 3.45pm Finish: 5.30pm approx. Children are not to be left unattended. We request that at least one supervising adult be present. Club Night dates appear in the College calendar, displayed on the College pool noticeboard and sent out in updates to members addresses. TERM 3 & 4 CLUB NIGHT DATES: 21 August September 2015 (Break for school holidays) 16 & 30 October & 20 November 2015 WHAT HAPPENS AT SWIMMING CLUB? The main goal for all swimmers is to record personal best times (PBs). Club Nights will give swimmers an opportunity to establish PBs over 25m (9 years and under), and 50m, 100m, 200m, (10 years and over) in each stroke and the individual medley. Times are recorded, with points allocated for participation, equalling personal best times and improvement. Fun nights will also be held throughout the year. Club Nights will only be cancelled if there is a threat of an electrical storm. So to earn those points, be consistent with attendance! All Club Nights will include a BBQ, snacks and soft drinks and, from evidence of past seasons, this can be quite a social night for parents too!
PARENTS SUPPORT For each Club Night to run successfully, we need volunteers to help with setting up of marshalling, timekeeping and, of course, the BBQ so please don t wait to be asked - Volunteer! It is a good way to meet people and also enables the regulars to have a break and watch their kids swim! We are looking at putting a roster in place, which will mean that you may be called on once or twice a season to do various jobs. CLUB GARMENTS It is recommended that all swimmers wishing to compete at swim meets wear our Club race togs, Club cap and Club shirt to any swim meets. This not only makes them easily identifiable, it also encourages a sense of belonging to a team. The prices for our swimwear are very competitive and it is of a good quality. Club caps are compulsory for any swim meets. COACHING Squad training timetable is available on the school website FUNDRAISING Fundraising for the Club is done by the fortnightly BBQ and providing the BBQ/tuckshop at the College House swimming carnivals. The proceeds from these events help us keep the Club running, and provide much needed equipment for our pool. As a non-profit Club, we need to raise funds for the day-to-day running of the Club.
COMPETITIVE SWIMMERS JUNIOR EXCELLENCE AWARDS Membership to A.B. Paterson College Swimming Club includes registration with Queensland Swimming Junior Excellence Programme (JX). The Australian Junior Excellence Programme (JX) recognises rewards and encourages junior swimmers who, through their development of aquatic skills and fitness, achieve a high standard of swimming excellence. The programme now also recognises the achievements of SWD and OWS children. Under the programme, swimmers aged from 9 to 13 years, who accomplish times set by Swimming Australia, qualify at Green, Bronze, Silver or Gold standard, depending on their performance/s during the season. For doing so, qualifiers receive special recognition by way of: A distinctive JX cap (9 and 10 year olds) or JX shirt (11 to 13 year olds) A JX certificate of achievement signed by the National Youth Coach and members of the Australian Swim Team! A JX motivational poster featuring elite Australian swimmers Publication of their name on this website. 26 Aug 2015 Miami Spring Meet B grade 23 Oct 2015 The Southport School Aquatics Spring Meet A grade 10 & 11 Oct 2015 SQ Long Course Qualifying Meet 17 Oct 2015 Somerset Annual Meet B grade 6-7 Nov 2015 Southport Olympic Twilight Meet A grade 14 Nov 2015 SQ Long Course Qualifying Meet 14 Nov 2015 All Saints Junior Development Meet 21 Nov 2015 Surfers Paradise Restricted Qualifying Meet 28 Nov 2015 Beaudesert restricted Qualifying Meet Dec 2015 McDonalds State Long Course Swim Champs 2016 Season - to be advised

GENERAL CODE OF BEHAVIOUR Swimming Australia promotes the following behavioural guidelines to all people involved in any way with the sport of swimming, particularly those responsible for activities involving members under the age of 18 years. As a Swimming Australia member, these behavioural guidelines highlight the principles of the Member Welfare and Child Welfare policies. As a person involved in any way with the sport of swimming, the following standard of behaviour is expected. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others. Be ethical, considerate, fair and honest in all dealings with others. Be professional in, and accept responsibility for, your actions. Make a commitment to providing quality service. Be aware of, and maintain an uncompromising adherence to, Swimming Australia standards, rules and policies. Operate within the rules and spirit of swimming, including national and international guidelines that govern Swimming Australia. Swimming Australia expects all members, service providers and employees to abide by this code of conduct, which upholds the principles and values of the organisation. They should recognise that at all times they have a responsibility, and a duty of care to other members, service providers and Swimming Australia employees. Specifically, they should: Understand the possible consequences of breaching Swimming Australia s member protection policy. Immediately report any breaches of the Swimming Australia member protection policy to the appropriate authority. Refrain from any form of abuse towards others. Refrain from any form of harassment toward others. Refrain from any form of discrimination toward others. Refrain from intimate relations with members with whom they have a supervisory role or power over. Refrain from any form of victimisation toward others. Provide a safe environment for the conduct of activities in accordance with any relevant Swimming Australia policy. Show concern and caution toward others that may be sick or injured. Be a positive role model.
COMPETITOR CODE OF BEHAVIOUR Abide by the General Behavioural Guidelines. Follow the rules of Swimming Australia at all times. Give your best at all times. Never argue with an official. SPECTATOR CODE OF BEHAVIOUR Remember that young people participate in sport for their enjoyment and benefit, not yours. Applaud good performance and efforts from all individuals and teams. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities. Respect officials decisions and teach children to do likewise.
