2 Overview NEW for 2015! The 18 th Annual Pittsburgh Triathlon will take place at the City-Side Lawn of Point State Park at Commonwealth Place. Point State Park was named one of the Top 10 Great Public Spaces in the U.S. by the American Planning Association in The Pittsburgh Triathlon Series is an event of Friends of the Riverfront and proceeds are used to continue Friends of the Riverfront s work as the developer and steward of the Pittsburgh region s Three Rivers Heritage Trail and Three Rivers Water Trail. The event consists of our annual USAT-sanctioned Olympic distance Triathlon (swimbike-run), a Sprint Distance Triathlon, and a sprint distance Adventure Race (kayak-bikerun). The Pittsburgh Triathlon was ranked 3 rd best urban triathlon in the world by Triathlete Magazine in The annual Triathlon EXPO will showcase both local and national entities that support an environment-conscious lifestyle. Piranha Sports ( serves as the Race Director for the Pittsburgh Triathlon Series. 2

3 Beneficiary Friends of the Riverfront For more than 20 years, Friends of the Riverfront has been on the ground and in the water, working to protect and restore our region s priceless rivers and riverfronts. We are a pioneering organization that has been involved in creating nearly all of the trails you see as you bike, hike, rollerblade or paddle along our beautiful shores. Through intense collaboration with community partners, government officials, and a diverse volunteer base, our rivers and riverfronts have been transformed from industrial wastelands to international examples of environmental renewal. 4 Schedule of Events Sprint and Adventure Race Friday, August 7, :00pm - 7:00pm Packet pick-up for Saturday racers (mandatory) and Sunday racers with optional bike inspection 5:00pm - 7:00pm Race Expo at City-Side Lawn of Point State Park at Commonwealth Place 5:30pm First timers meeting for Sprint Triathlon and Adventure Race. Open to all athletes to become familiar with basic rules. 6:00pm Swim Warm-up and Safety Clinic Saturday, August 8, :00am - 6:30am Race expo, late packet pick-up, body marking, and last minute bike and helmet check. 6:30am Pre-race meeting on the City-Side Lawn followed by the National Anthem. Waves below are subject to change. 6:45am Start of Sprint Triathlon 7:15am Approximate Start of Adventure Race. Bring your own kayak, pfd (life jacket), and paddles. 9:30am Official results posted. This is your opportunity to review your own results. Once awards ceremony begins, results are final. 9:45am Awards ceremony. Awards will not be mailed. 9:45am Transition area closed. 10:00am - 12:00pm Race expo, packet pick-up for Sunday racers. 10:30am First timers Triathlon meeting, open to all age groupers to become familiar with basic rules. 11:00am Swim Warm-up and Safety Clinic 4

5 Schedule of Events International Triathlon Sunday, August 9, :00am - 6:30am Late packet pick-up, body marking, and last minute bike and helmet check. 6:30am Pre-race meeting on the City-Side Lawn followed by the National Anthem. 6:45am First wave start for International Distance Triathlon. 10:15am Official results posted. This is your opportunity to review your own results. Once awards ceremony begins, results are final. 10:30am Awards ceremony. Awards will not be mailed. 10:30am Transition area closed. 5

6 Course Olympic Distance Triathlon 1.5K Swimmers enter the water on the City Side of the Allegheny River and swim towards Point State Park at the base of Ft. Duquesne Bridge. 40K Bike across the 7 th Street Bridge and take the HOV lane on Route 279 to Perrysville and back to Commonwealth Place. Two laps. 10K Participants will run around the fountain at Point State Park, across the Roberto Clemente Bridge to the North Shore, and up the Three Rivers Heritage Trail to the turn around at Washington s Landing. Sprint Distance Triathlon Course 600 Meter Swim, 20K Bike, 5KRun (Same course as the full Triathlon made more accessible to the casual athlete.) Adventure Race 2 Mile Paddle, 20K Bike and 5K Run (Participants will paddle up the Allegheny to a RR track overpass and make their way back down the river to exit the water at the boat ramp near the Ft. Duquesne Bridge) 6
