3 A BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED GRADE II JACOBEAN BUILDING STEEPED IN HISTORY The earliest record of the site occupied by Allington Manor is registered in the Domesday Book, although nothing remains of the original dwelling. The oldest section of the present building where the Breakfast Room, bar and cellars are now located, dates back to 1450 when the structure was much smaller. The manor house, then known as West Allington Manor, passed to affluent yeoman farmers, the Grants of the larger Danby family in the sixteenth century who went on to acquire Allington Hall and much of the land in the village during the seventeenth century. In 1660 the Grant family added the Dutch gables and the dog leg grand staircase to complete the unique house that stands today. The property only passed through two more generations though before the family fell on hard times and it was first mortgaged and then sold in 1674 to Reverend Thomas Williamson for 841. Following its sale, the manor house remained with the Williamson family and by marriage, the Welby family for the subsequent two and a half centuries. During this time however, the structure fell into disrepair and was completely uninhabited when it was purchased in 1948 by Mr Palin who saved it from ruin after obtaining a grant to re-roof the building. The task of restoring the property to its former glory was undertaken by the Vincent family in 1983 who are the present proprietors of the manor house. A L L I N G T O N M A N O R

11 A LITTLE TRANQUILIT Y + A LOT OF LUXURY Each of our guest rooms has its own individual style and character. THE LORD S ROOM The grandly dressed and luxuriously decorated Lord s Room was occupied in Jacobean times by the Lord and Lady of the Manor of Allington and is well suited to those in search of a little opulence. It s freestanding roll-top bath, six-foot bateau bed, subtle lighting and seventeenth-century stone surround open fire all combine to create the exclusivity which has been demanded by successive Lords of the Manor for the past 400 years. The room enjoys views over the front garden to a magnificent ash tree as well as across a neighbouring meadow to the village green. THE LADY S ROOM The Lady s Room is the perfect choice for those seeking a restful retreat. Set above The Hall, the room overlooks a magnificent ash tree at the front of the house and offers complete luxury with a calming pale green colour scheme, large four-poster bed, Georgian marble fireplace, freestanding roll-top bath and high quality furnishings. THE GARDEN ROOM Situated at the back of the house with an outlook over the rear garden, vast open skies and distant low hills are visible through the leaded windows. This room has a distinctly cottage-like feel with its parchment and blue colour scheme that is complemented by a brass and iron bedstead, an antique six-foot cast iron bath and delicate pine furniture.
