1 Setting up Outlook from Off Campus 1 Introduction Create an Outlook Profile to Access Exchange via RPC over HTTP 1.1 Client Prerequisites Client Operating System Minimum: Microsoft Windows XP with SP1 and Hotfix Recommended: Microsoft Windows XP with SP2 and all critical and security updates applied See: 2 Starting With a NEW Outlook profile This is for users to use with RPC over HTTP. Use this method when you either don t have an existing Outlook 2003 Profile for connecting to the Exchange system, or you do already have one, but want to add this one in addition to the existing one. Note: For instructions on modifying an existing Outlook 2003 Profile please refer to Section 3 Modify an existing Outlook profile 2.1 Create a New Profile 1. On the client computer where Outlook 2003 is installed, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Client Outlook Version Minimum: Microsoft Outlook 2003 Recommended: Microsoft Outlook 2003 with SP2 and product updates applied See: About this Document This document is divided into two main sections. Section 2 details creating a new Outlook profile to be used from off campus. Reference this section when no profile exists, or when adding an additional profile. Section 3 details modifying an existing Outlook profile in order to be able to connect from off campus. Reference this section when older instructions were used to set up the profile, and the user now wants to update the account to connect from off campus. 2. In Control Panel, perform one of the following tasks: If you are using Category View, in the left pane click Switch to Classic View. 1

2 In Classic View, double-click Mail. 2.2 Create a New Account At this point, the Accounts wizard will appear. There are 4 panes in this wizard. 1. In the Accounts wizard, click Add a new account, and then click Next. 3. In Mail Setup, under Profiles, click Show Profiles, then add a new profile. 2. On the Server Type page, click Microsoft Exchange Server, and then click Next. 3. On the Accounts page, do the following: 4. The name for this profile is: UofL RPC-HTTP, and then click OK. In the Microsoft Exchange Server box, type the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of your back-end Exchange server where your mailbox resides: EXCHCL2.uleth.ca 2

3 Important! Temporarily turn off Cached Exchange mode to test your configuration. We recommend that you enable Cached Exchange mode after you test your RPC over HTTP configuration. In the User Name box, type the name of the user account that you want to use (e.g. firstname.lastname). Click More Settings. At this stage, the client application attempts to resolve the user name on the Exchange server. If you cannot access your Exchange back-end server directly by using TCP/IP, this operation will time out and present a dialog box that prompts you to confirm your user name and mailbox. Click Cancel on this dialog box. 5. In the Exchange Proxy Settings dialog box (within the Connections Settings pane) perform the following steps: 4. In the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box, do the following: In the Connection pane, select either Connect using my Local Area Network (LAN) or Connect using Internet Explorer s or a 3rd party dialler. Select the connection type based on the method that you use to connect to the Internet. Select the Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP check box. Click Exchange Proxy Settings. Enter the FQDN of the RPC proxy server in the Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange box. The RPC proxy server is the Exchange server that users can connect to on the Internet. Type webexchange.uleth.ca Select the Connect using SSL only check box Select the Mutually authenticate the session when connecting with SSL check box Enter the FQDN of the RPC proxy server in the Principle name for proxy server box: msstd:webexchange.uleth.ca Configure Outlook 2003 to connect to your Exchange server by default by using RPC over HTTP. To do this, select the check box next to On fast networks, connect to Exchange using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP and On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP. In the Use this authentication when connecting to my proxy server for Exchange list, select Basic Authentication. 6. Click OK in the Exchange Proxy Settings box. Click OK in the Microsoft Exchange Server box. Click Next on the Accounts page. Click Finish to close the wizard, and then click OK. 3

4 2.3 Starting Outlook When starting Outlook, you will be prompted for you username and password. For username, enter it with the domain name (e.g. ULETH\firstname.lastname) Once you have made a successful connection, remember to turn cached Exchange Mode back on: While in Outlook with the RPC over HTTP enabled profile open click on the Tools Accounts. Check the box that says Use Cached Exchange Mode and then click Next. Click OK to acknowledge the message about exiting Outlook to make the settings change take effect. On the Accounts screen, click Finish. Exit out of Outlook Open Outlook 2003 and you will be good to go! 3 Modify an existing Outlook profile These instructions are for users to use with RPC over HTTP. Use this method to modify an existing Outlook 2003 Profile to enable RPC over HTTP. This will be especially useful for laptop users as they will be able to make a HTTP connection to Exchange whether they are on or off campus. In the Accounts Wizard select View or change existing accounts and click Next. 3.1 Opening the Profile If Outlook 2003 is currently running, close it. To open the Accounts wizard using Control Panel, do the following: On the client computer where Outlook 2003 is installed, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
