2 Introduction It seems not so long ago that the AFA launched the Female Excellence in Advice Award at the 20 National Adviser Conference with our Award partner TAL. At the time, the award was a ground breaking initiative. Now into its 6th year we are proud of the heritage and momentum that this Award is creating. In 2013, and quite separately to the Award, the AFA launched the Community of Practice - Inspire. The knowledge domain of Inspire is to connect women in advice and encourage them into adviser and leadership roles, and also to think about how we encourage more women to seek quality financial advice. It is great to see many other initiatives and research recognising the important role women play in our workforce, this is especially true in financial advice. Today, both of these initiatives are important components of the AFA s offer. Through the Female Excellence in Advice Award process we have showcased some extraordinary advisers doing great things for their clients. And Inspire has helped increase the number of women in our membership to nearly 30%. We are delighted to host you at our first Inspiration Day. Our program will launch our Money, Wellbeing and the Role of Advice - A gender-based approach White Paper in conjunction with TAL, Rebecca from Beddoes Institute and the 2016 Female Excellence in Advice Award. The 2015 winner, Sharon Walker and National President, Deborah Kent will share their secrets of success and finally, Vicki Writer will inspire you further with her 7 laws of empowerment. 5 Synopsis & Learning Outcomes Dr Rebecca Sheils Director, Beddoes Institute The AFA, TAL and Beddoes Institute white paper Money, Well-being and the Role of Financial Advice A Gender-based Approach proves that financial advice make a significantly positive contribution to the overall health and well-being of the Australian community. Specifically the research identifies the differing needs of advice clients across both gender and generations and the benefits they experience. Through applying the findings of this research, advisers will discover new opportunities for growth that result from stronger client advocacy and referrals, stickier client relationships and achieving greater breadth in the services that clients ask them to provide, with a particular focus on female clients. Sharon Walker Senior Financial Planner, NAB financial Planning Sharon will speak about her journey and how she overcame obstacles as an introverted female in the male dominated finance industry. She will tell you about how she has been able to use goal setting to improve client relationships and to succeed personally and professionally. Deborah Kent AFA National President and Principal, Integra Financial Services Celebrating 20 years of owning and operating her practice, Integra Financial services, Deborah has constantly transformed the business over the years to meet the changing world of advice. In that time, she has also transformed herself through resilience, developing a positive mindset and a willingness to learn.
