2 20 years setting trends Two decades after opening its first home in Madrid s Calle General Oráa, Casa Decor remains an essential reference within the world of decoration, design and architecture. Not only is it a social event, it is above all a platform from which to propel the best Spanish professionals, and launch the newest products and materials. Its formula? Quality, unity, consistency and professionalism. What is Casa Decor? Recognized as the most important and prestigious decoration exhibition in Europe, Casa Decor is an exclusive communication platform where the sector s three main vertices meet: professionals, commercial brands and the general public. A catwalk where interior, architecture and design professionals can show off not only their aesthetic proposal, but also their skill when it comes to work. A shop window open to the public, in which firms have the unique opportunity to showcase their products, be their materials or coatings, furniture, electronics or innovative building solutions. How does Casa Decor work? The project begins with locating an emblematic building in a distinguished area of the city, which is then refurbished by a group of interior, architect and landscape professionals. Also taking part in this event are artists, designers, art galleries and companies who wish to show their work and products to thousands of visitors who visit the event over a one-month period. The exhibition consists of two annual events. One in Madrid during May and June, and the other in Barcelona, in November and December. 1

3 How it all began What can 43 decorators be up to, closed up in a convent? Decoration makes miracles. That was the slogan for Casa Decor s first edition, in 1992, which took place in an old convent on Calle General Oráa, in Madrid. The groundbreaking and risky initiative, which had never before been seen in the timid, early 90 s world of decoration, was at first seen as an oddity, but then generated great expectations. The most renowned decorators of the time participated in that project which consisted of decorating each room of an emblematic building. There is no two without three That first edition was an immediate success. To that initial small group, made up of Casa Decor and those pioneer decorators, others soon joined; professionals and larger brands associated with the world of decoration and from other luxury and consumer sectors. Today, each edition of Casa Decor brings together over one hundred professionals and brands, creating an exceptional synergy in this unique event in Spain. Promoting singular and sustainable architecture Along with the great platform that Casa Decor represents as a professional and commercial event, it has also developed an important role in recuperating buildings that are part of the cities urban heritage, and revaluing their architectural richness through quality projects. Consequently, with every edition Casa Decor stimulates the real estate sector by promoting the building that houses the event and showing off the renovation project or sale. Moreover, Casa Decor was one of the first interiors exhibitions to manifest a clear concern for the environment, thereby strengthening the offer of ecological and sustainable construction products. 2

4 Casa Decor Solidarity In its role as a communication space, Casa Decor has always been supported by foundations of humanitarian and social character, such as the Asociación Española Contra el Cancer (AECC, Spanish Association against cancer), the Pascual Maragall Foundation, which battles against Alzheimer, or the Carmen Pardo-Valcarce Foundation, which tirelessly works for the social and labour integration of the psychically challenged. An open window onto the future Of course, a wide spectrum of Casa Decor also reaches the final consumer, a lover of decoration who is offered a unique opportunity to learn first-hand about the latest trends, materials and building solutions of the future. This is because Casa Decor is the house of the future. All that is found within it will be in our homes in the next few years. 7 MADRID Editions between 1992 and Casa Decor s first building in 1992, an old convent at nº 17, Calle General Oraa, Madrid s Second Edition took place in this mansion located at nº 51, Calle Principe de Vergara. 3. In 1994 there was no event in Madrid as Casa Decor organized its first exhibition in Barcelona. From 1995, the event would take place in both cities. This is the magnificent palace of that year, located at nº 63, Calle Velazquez. 4. The building of 1996, at Calle Goya, nº 31, corner with Calle Velazquez. 5. The old British Institute, at nº 5, Almagro, housed the 1997 and 1999 Editions. 6. In 1998 and 2000, Casa Decor was organised in the mansion located at nº18, Eduardo Dato, near the Castellana. 7. The magnificent Finca El Olivar, an urban garden at nº3, Menéndez Pidal, was the singular surrounding for the 2001 Edition. 8. One of the most emblematic buildings of the Paseo de la Castellana, at nº 28, housed the 2002 Edition. 9. In 2003, we returned to Paseo the la Castellana, but this time to nº

For the 2005 Edition, the emblematic Restaura building was chosen, located at nº20, Recoletos. 3. Near to Puerta de Alcalá, in the distinguished Calle Salustriano Olózaga, was the location chosen for the 2006 Edition. 4. In 2007 and to celebrate 9 its 15 years, Casa Decor carried out a complex project that included a selection of buildings in the neighbourhood of Plaza de Canalejas. 5. Some old laboratories in Calle Nieremberg welcomed the 2008 Edition. 6. The Palace at Luchana nº22, was the chosen location for the 2009 edition. 7. Visitors were delighted with the 2010 event, held at the magnificent palace at Velazquez, nº In 2011, the edition was housed at a 19th century residential building at Jorge Juan, nº The Royal Compañía Asturiana de Minas, in Plaza de España 8, was the venue which hosted the 20 years edition in Madrid

9 BARCELONA Editions between 1994 and A chalet ar Avenida Pearson, nº 30, in Pedralbes, was the chosen location for the first Barcelona Edition in Also in Pedralbes, at nº2, Espasa, was this palace type house which housed the 1995 event. 3. The 1996 Edition was staged at an old textile factory in the Sarriá quarters, at Calle Calatrava, nº The rare building of a Chicago school style at Via Laietana, nº 17, for residential detached homes located at Pasaje Josep Llovera, nº 4, were combined for the 1998 Edition. 6. The 1999 exhibition also took place at Pearson, at nº 32, in an old Country home. 7. The 2000 Edition was held between Escuelas Pías nº 136 and Marqués de Villalonga nº An original Llars Mundet 60 s building in Calle Harmonía, welcomed the 2001 Edition. 9. At Montealegre, nº 5 and next to MACBA, this building, officially catalogued as 12th century, was the chosen location for the 2002 Edition. 8

10 BARCELONA Editions between 2004 and Banco Central Hispano s old main office at Passeig De Gràcia nº 38-40, was the chosen building for In 2004, two industrial warehouses at Carrer de Taulat nº5, also known as the La Farinera (from the word flour ) de Poble Nou welcomed that year s Edition. 3. La Casa Burés, at Ausías March nº 30-32, was the chosen place to house the 2005 Edition. 4. The old Banco Español de Crédito building was the outstanding acquisition for the 2006 Edition, located at Plaza de Cataluña nº Fabra i Coats old textile factory in the Sant Andreu quarters, was the location chosen to hold the 2007 event, on Casa Décor s 15 year anniversary. 6. Outstanding space was this building in Port Forum Saint Adriá, for the 2008 Edition. 7. A magnificent modern building at Còrsega, nº 261 was home of the 2009 Edition. 8. The 2010 Edition was held at this 70 s school in Pedralbes, at Esplugues, nº Gran Via de Les Corts Catalanes, nº 700 saw last year s 2011 Barcelona Edition. 9 9

11 VALENCIA Editions between 2002 and To celebrate Valencia s first Casa Decor Edition in 2002, the chosen location was La Casa Chama, at nº38, Grabador Esteve. 2. The old Fabrica de Tobocos was the unique and rare space chosen for the 2003 Edition. 3. The two adjacent buildings at Calle de los Caballeros nº36 and 38 were home to the 2004 Edition. 4. The old Metropol cinema staged the 2006 exhibition. 5. The whole of Imprenta Vila, the Industrial complex at Travesía Mascota nº 17, welcomed the 2007 Edition. 6. Docks are the old warehouses at the port, standing in front of the Paseo de Neptuno. This was the chosen location for the 2008 Edition. 6 10
