1 NSA Afan is a Community Regeneration Development Trust organisation that is a registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee. Its area of operation is Swansea Bay, Waterfront and Western Valleys. It has a number of core activities including being the grant recipient body for the delivery of the Communities First programme that identifies the needs of the Sandfields and Aberavon community. The main activity is the implementation and delivery of the NSA Afan Business Plan which has identified the needs of the community and which is the focus of delivery for the organisation. Post: Responsible to: Grade: Salary: Contract terms: Hours: Holidays Senior Manager Social Enterprise NSA Afan Chief Executive PO points 43,44,45 Point Starting Salary - 36,676 annum. Contract will end on or before 31st March 2016 subject to renewal and performance appraisal. 35 hours 25 days, 3 discretionary days plus 8 public holidays. Based at: Primarily at NSA Afan premises in Sandfields Aberavon. Purpose of Post To Manage and provide Strategic leadership to all NSA Social Enterprise activities providing facilities and services to the community and the general public consistent with the aims and objectives of the organisation upon its values and strategies. Key Tasks To report to the Chief Executive Officer on all matters relating to Social Enterprise operations as distinct from issues of running programmes within the organisation which is a charitable organisation and company limited by Guarantee. To be responsible for management of staff and teams in the generation of unrestricted income in the running and expansion of existing services and the development of new Social Enterprise services. To led on procurements and contract bidding for NSA Afan's Social Enterprise projects.
2 To adopt sustainable delivery and development of social enterprise services, ensure good practice in relation to all Social Enterprise activities and initiatives. To work collaboratively and flexibly with NSA Afan Communities First Cluster Staff who have a developmental and functional management role to perform in the delivery of facilities, services and activities required to meet CF Targets on a rolling programme. To have a flexible approach to the managing of a number of key facilities and service projects and manage a team lead approach to income generation in all Social Enterprise activities of NSA Afan. Bevin Avenue - Development Centre Michna Street - Community Resource Centre Dalton Road - Employment Academy PCCare - IT Social Enterprise project PV4Free - Renewable Energy Social Enterprise project Involving individuals and teams to co-ordinate fund raising and grant application work and to maximise self generated income from the sales of goods and services to other organisations, the general public and others. To participate as a member of a Senior Management Team committed to improving the quality of life of people living in an area of social disadvantage. To promote and run high quality projects and services and based on meeting the needs of people who are socially disadvantaged and to ensure access for people who are presently excluded from such opportunities. Duties & Responsibilities General: 1. Be prepared to take an enhanced disclosure (CRU). 2. To work on own initiative and as part of a team. 3. Hold a full and clean driving licence and the use of a vehicle for business purposes. 4. Adhere to all current policies as set out in NSA Afan s Employee Handbook. 5. To proactively promote all projects associated with NSA Afan. 6. Possess good organisational skills. 7. Have good knowledge of the local community. 8. Any other duties required.
3 The job description is indicative of the range of current duties and responsibilities of the post holder, it is not comprehensive. It is inevitable that the duties will change due to reflect project development and it is essential therefore that the description is regarded with a degree of flexibility, so that changing needs and circumstances can be met. Ian Isaac Chief Executive, 20 th February 2015 EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA (DESIRABLE CRITERIA IN BRACKETS) Must have at least 5 years experience of working in a Social Enterprise setting in the community, social/health care or similar setting, managing people, systems, social enterprises, organisations or managing service provision. Must have experience of networking with people, Project delivery, project development leading a Social Enterprise organisation. Must have a Degree or equivalent experience, and participated in social or action based research up to at least certificate/diploma level and must have excellent people and project management skills in a Community or Social care setting. (Have at least 5years experience working with one or more of the following: Employees, service users, residents, customer service to the general public). At least 5 years experience of working directly in a community development, voluntary sector, Local Authority or social or health care setting addressing health, social or community needs of residents, disadvantaged people or people with health or social care needs. Must have experience of income generation in community centre or town EVIDENCE and
4 ABILITY KNOWLEDGE centre locations maximising income from events or organisations requiring facilities within public buildings. Must be able to establish and maintain constructive relationships with a wide range of people, Community and statutory Organisations. Must be familiar with branding and marketing of community based services. Must have good organising skills and be able to manage own time effectively and work as part of a Senior Management Team as well as on their own initiative. Have sufficient financial and numerical capability to understand and report accurately on financial matters and draft outline reports involving costs. Must have ability to and be prepared to use computers for: , Word processing and Spreadsheets. Must have use of vehicle and full driving licence. Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of income generation, value for money whilst having a caring approach and have sound administrative and organising and problem solving skills. To led on income generation, procurements and contract bidding. Have an understanding of political and social context within which voluntary organisations and other agencies work in the community. (Health and Safety Regulations) Have some knowledge of H&S with the context of community settings. Training and refresher can be given.
