Specially designed for frontline clinical leaders (Nursing, Midwives, AHP and Scientists etc.) at Band 6 and above who are directly responsible for delivering high quality, safe care. Support is provided through two action learning sets where participants and course tutors learn from and help each other. The final day will allow you to present your findings and share the outcomes of your change project. You will explore the wider context of the challenges facing healthcare throughout the developed world, and be supported and encouraged to operate at a more senior level with more political astuteness, within your own organisation. You will learn more about yourself, leading others, managing change, influencing and negotiating, tackling difficult issues and tough conversations productively, and above all how to raise performance and improve patient care. How will this programme help me? Sessions will focus on the practical skills and knowledge required to make a real and immediate difference to the way you and your team work. Increase their knowledge and practical experience of using improvement tools to lead change Improve their understanding of how health care organisations and the NHS work and their political awareness both internally and externally and how they can use this to enable change. Learn new skills for self-management and the management of others. Develop themselves to be the best they can be in their current role, and work toward reaching their potential to advance their career. What the programme will cover There are three interlocking elements of the programme, each aimed at increasing practical skills, knowledge and competence to lead change and deliver real and sustained improvements for a diverse range of patients across the spectrum of health and social care. It comprises: 1. A personal analysis: each participant receives feedback on their skills, strengths, and development areas, using a specifically modified 360 degree feedback tool. All feedback is anonymous and fully confidential. 2. A three-day intensive face to face programme: This is an opportunity to hear from experts about the major issues affecting health and social care, leadership styles, increasing personal effectiveness and how to get things done. Master class style presentations will be interspersed with group learning, problem-solving and reflection, including: What good leaders do; Thinking creatively; Health policy and its impact on practice; Leadership styles; Managing change; Assertiveness and what it means for you; Handling conflict; Political awareness and resilience. 3. Action learning applied to a real life challenge: Identification of a real task or issue and working with this as the basis of their service improvement project. This work is carried forward over a 6 month period during which the participants have access to 2 action learning sets. The course culminates in the presentation.
