1 Do you have skills to be a West Midlands Leadership Associate? Join our HEWM Leadership Hub as Leadership Associates Our Vision We are inviting individuals with facilitation, OD and training skills to apply to form part of our regional pool of Leadership Associates. Our vision is to have identified and contracted with multi-professional Leadership Associates as existing skilled facilitators / trainers / coaches from within our regional healthcare organisations, and be in a place to develop and utilise this expert group to co-deliver our programmes, and/or enabled our individual healthcare organisations to broker their time directly to meet their unique organisational development needs. What we will achieve Rather than using external training providers which is costly, our ambition is to identify, enable and remunerate the skilled individuals that we already have within our healthcare organisations as a community of practice to help us to facilitate regional leadership programmes and development interventions. We also recognise the potential to market the skills of these individuals across our regional healthcare organisations who may wish to broker/purchase Leadership Associates time (rather than traditional external consultancy services) to help with their own unique organisational leadership and OD needs. We therefore see the benefit of sharing Leadership Associates contact details through a regional database. We know that there are many potential Leadership Associates already running best practice programmes within their local Trusts and we aim to identify these programmes through our West Midlands Leadership Quality Award work-stream running simultaneously along-side our Leadership Associate work. Real life pilot case study: Talent Development Centres We identified that we needed skilled practitioners to help us run career and leadership development centres across the region. Organisational trainers, coaches and those trained in psychometric tools are now working with us to help pilot and deliver the development centre model and we still need the expertise of further similar individuals to work with us in making this model sustainable! 1
2 How will the Leadership Associate model work? Who are we looking for? Multi-professional, enthusiastic individuals from within our NHS who are looking for a new challenge, motivated to use their education and organisational development (OD) skills and expertise, such as; training, workshop facilitation, coaching, psychometrics, education and feedback facilitation, to help us to deliver leadership and OD programmes regionally, and/or who are seeking opportunities to broker using their skills within wider healthcare organisations with the sponsorship of their employing organisation. EVERYONE IS INVITED! Leadership Associates do not need to have a traditional training or OD background we are seeking individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds to support us. What s in it for the individual? We aim to offer stretch opportunities to use the skills of these individuals regionally, in different environments, offer the profiling of their abilities, offer development and support from HEWM Leadership Team including supervision as Leadership Associate, and to develop them as part of a regional expert resource and community of practice. Remuneration model - What s in it for their organisation? We will develop a fair remuneration model to reimburse the employing organisation for the individuals time. In addition, we also offer the opportunity to advertise these individuals through a West Midlands Leadership Associates - Trainers and OD Facilitators directory, meaning that other organisations may request their time. This could lead to income generation through sharing Associates skills with wider West Midlands organisations. What must Leadership Associates commit to for HEWM? HEWM will expect Associates and their supporting organisation to: Be available for a minimum of 5 days per year should HEWM require to utilise their skills for regional programmes and interventions. Ongoing enthusiasm, commitment and to openly utilise their skills to support regional programmes and interventions. Engage with ongoing supervision, CPD relevant to the Associate role and the Associates community of practice. Engage in quality review of activity and re-validation to remain on the Associates database. How will we identify and utilise Leadership Associates? When individuals apply and are sponsored by their manager and strategically by their organisation, we aim to take them through a development centre approach to identify readiness to become a Leadership Associate. We will then place them on a regional database and utilise their time and skills to support our leadership and OD programmes as needed, offering remuneration to their employing healthcare organisation for their time. We can also share their details with all healthcare organisations in our region through a database (if Associates and their employing organisation wish this) so that their skills and expertise could potentially be brokered / purchased by other local Trusts and health organisations. We will continue to supervise, develop and quality-monitor Associates and identify / revalidate our Associates database on an ongoing basis. 2
3 Individuals identify interest, gain consent from their line manager, and submit the application form to HEWM HEWM works with identified strategic leads in Trusts (e.g. OD/ Education Lead) to obtain full organisational consent for these individuals to become Associates Individuals invited to a development centre to identify suitability to become an Associate Individuals and their organisation are contracted with and added to HEWM database Optional: Individuals added to West Midlands OD Trainers Database open to all regional organisations Associates offered opportunities to support HEWM programmes >> Employing Trusts remunerated for their time Associates contacted by local organisations with possible wider opportunities to support their unique development >> Employing Trusts remunerated for their time Ongoing supervision and development of Associates and review of feedback from courses they run to support revalidation and quality review Ongoing revalidation and identification of Associates How to register interest as an individual and organisation Interested Applicants: If you are an individual interested in engaging with us in this exciting initiative we would like you to consider your suitability to apply, and then gain provisional consent from your line manager.
