2 Parent/Teacher Conferences Wednesday, March 20 - Friday, March 22 Spring Auction: Havana Nights Thank you to everyone for your amazing donations, both individual auction items and contributions to class baskets, for our annual Spring Auction, "Havana Nights." The auction will take place on Thursday, March 14, at Look Park's Garden House from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. We have some really exciting donations and packages this year! Check your mailboxes for exciting previews of parties you can plan with friends, followed a couple of days later by the complete auction catalog. "Havana Nights" will feature Cuban-themed catering by The Spoleto Group. There will also be fruit from Whole Foods and delicious signature vegan cupcakes from the Benevolent Bake Shop. In addition, there will be Salsa dancing lessons to a swinging Latin soundtrack. All food and entertainment are included in the ticket price. There will also be a cash bar for your "Havana Nights" enjoyment! Can't attend the auction? Shop ahead of time and bid by proxy! You can decide what items you'd like to bid on and specify your maximum bid amount. A proxy bidder will bid on your behalf at the auction. If you are interested in this option, please fill out the proxy bid form, which will accompany the auction catalog in your mailbox. Return your proxy bid sheet to the Collection Center. On behalf of the entire 2013 Spring Auction Planning Committee, we thank you for your continued support and generosity! See you at "Havana Nights!" Parent/Teacher Conferences Please be sure to sign up for your conference time with your children's teachers (Wednesday, March 20; Thursday, March 21; and Friday, March 22). Sign-up sheets have been posted outside each classroom. We urge parents to be prompt when picking up children at 11:30 am for Children's House and 11:45 am for Elementary and LCH students during conference days. Childcare during conference days will take place in Upper Elementary and in the studio (LCH). Upper El conferences will be held in the office opposite the studio at the end of hall. 2 of 5 3/7/13 2:20 PM

3 You may register your child for childcare, including those of you who only need care for the time of your conference. Doing so will help us plan staffing. Registration and payment are due Thursday, March 7th. Please note: All conference care students must pack a nut/peanut-free lunch for the three days since Children's House and Elementary groups will be sharing spaces. AISNE Visit to MSN in April Our school, as many of you may know, is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care and approved by the state Department of Education through the Northampton Public Schools. Over the past few years, we have been preparing for two other forms of accreditation: one by the American Montessori Society (AMS) and one by The Association of Independent Schools of New England (AISNE). For the past year and a half, our school has been engaged in a self-study correlating to the AMS and AISNE guidelines, and a thorough examination and documentation of our curriculum. Every staff member has spent long hours working on these documents. On the Friday of February vacation week, the AMS self-study was sent electronically; by that Saturday afternoon, the self-study and curriculum binders were mailed to our AISNE/AMS accreditation team. The next step is for the six members of our AISNE/AMS joint accreditation team to visit our school, which they will do from April You may see them in the halls, visiting classrooms, and meeting with various groups. We look forward to hosting them and showing them our school and community. Movie Madness Trivia Here's another opportunity to cheer on our Montessori staff! Our team The Montessorian Candidates {Rose Cabrera (Registrar/Office Manager), Chris Scanlon (After School and Summer Program Director and parent of Sofia Getoff-Scanlon) and Patty Huff (past MSN substitute teacher and Summer Program teacher)} will be representing our school at the Movie Madness Trivia on Sunday, March 10, at 3:00 pm at the Academy of Music in Northampton. "Twenty-four teams of three will vie for honors and prizes, challenged by movie trivia questions on categories ranging from film stars to book adaptations. Last year's winning team, the Mr. DeMilles will be back to defend their title" Tickets are $10 each. 4 MSN Parking Lot Press March 7, 2013 Education Foundation's Adult Spelling Bee to be held on Wednesday, March 27, at 6:00 pm at the JFK Middle School Auditorium in Florence. Last year's team came in second! Come cheer on our team "The Moveable Alphabet." Kids welcome, too! This year's spellers are Johanna Greenough (Upper El Co-Head Teacher and parent of Georgia in CH 2), Kathy Murri (Business Manager), and Tina Waldron (parent of Meghan in Upper El) with Dan Cahillane (MSN Bookkeeper) as alternate. This event is sponsored by the Northampton Education Foundation. All proceeds benefit the students and teachers of the Northampton Public Schools. For more information, please visit their website: WRSI:The River's Family Music Meltdown and Book Bash MSN will have a booth at the annual Family Music Meltdown on Saturday, March 30, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at their new location: Smith Vocational School. Admission is free. The event features music, books, and other fun activities for children. Visit their website for more information: MSN Community Draw This time of year, MSN participates in the DrawOn! program which encourages schools to create art in their home communities. This year MSN families are invited to join Barbara Neulinger (Art Teacher) in the studio with your students to try your hand at Sumi-e brush painting. Your children have learned some Sumi-e basics. They would like to show you how to prepare the ink, hold the brush, and use specific strokes to create forms. The event will be drop-in style. We hope you will stop by the studio/lch and participate! For Children's House families, you may drop in on Monday, April 1, from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. The activity for Elementary families will be on Tuesday, April 2, from 3:15 to 4:15 pm.
